The South Island is one of the most incredible places I've visited on earth and every sight on the entire island is worthy of a postcard. Each hill you crest and every corner you turn reveals a more splendid view than that last.

This week we sailed with the local pod of Dolphins up to one of our favourite spots in NZ, the Broken Group on Great Barrier Island. We met up with our friends from SV Aquillon and went crayfish hunting. We found a good spot and managed to get 5 good sized crays. We cooked them up and then motored off to smokehouse bay where we had some fun on a massive rope swing. The Broken Group have been good to us and Chris managed to spear two more Kingfish for another sashimi feast. The core of "Family Circus" is Chris (Dad / Captain), Sayo (Mom / Admiral), Aya (First Officer / Deckhand) and Miya (Baby / Stainless Polisher). After many years in business in Vancouver we were tired of life inside the box and wanted to make a change, we just weren't exactly sure what would be next. In July of 2016, when Sayo was six months pregnant, we decided (somewhat at the last minute) to fly to New Caledonia for one last holiday before the baby was born. The 44Cup crews were taken out of their comfort zone today for the 44Cup Porto Montenegro navigator’s race, a pro-am event for the usual nine teams, but with more guest racers on board. After a wait for the wind to fill in, Mother Nature duly obliged with it arriving from the southeast for the first time this week. With the navigator’s race taking the boats through the narrow channel between the Bay of Tivat and the Bay of Kotur, the RC44s were set off on an America’s Cup-style reaching start – a first for this in a long time for the high performance one design monohulls.
