This four round circuit will challenge the most elite hiking endurance athletes out there. Follow Coach Mike Kuschner at Sailing Performance Training and try and beat his scores. With this type of max repetition circuit, it is important to know your own muscle endurance capacity so you can give your best effort every round without fatiguing too early. If you start too quickly, you will not survive the remaining rounds. For hiking athletes, this circuit will focus on your hip flexors, lower abs, quads, and shoulder endurance. Die Besonderheit war in 2021, dass es keinen gemeinsamen Start gab, sondern ein sogenannter Känguru Start dazu führte, dass die Yachten versetzt anhand der berechneten Ankunftszeiten quasi mit Handicap starten und dann ideal fast zeitgleich ins Ziel kommen. Im Video ist hier ein knapper Zieleinlauf unter Spinnacker zu sehen. Die Berechnung der Zeiten folgt dem Yardsticksystem, welches für jedes Schiff einen entsprechenden Verrechnungsfaktor bietet, mit dem die gesegelte Zeit oder hier eben die Startzeit normiert wird.

We are awaiting my French Polynesia visa, preparing for the sail across the Pacific, dodging snakes, admiring the skill of the daily parade of Stand Up Paddle Boarders going past our yacht and helped a fellow yacht transit the Panama canal. I pulled an April Fools stunt on the crew, which caused much consternation since it involved delaying their flight back to South Africa. Panama City is a convenient place to prepare for our 5 week Pacific Crossing so not a bad place to be stuck waiting for a visa. David “Irish” Aikins and I are chomping at the bit to get sailing to the South Pacific islands, so hoping the visa comes through this week. We have the doldrums to get through so need to get moving!

Our goal is not to go to a specific place but to reach a state of mind where we can really enjoy life. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders in 2017. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 4 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sail in the Baltic Sea. During season 2 We sailded south to Dieppe Normandy France. After a winter in France in Season 3 we started to sail the Atlantic coast of Europe to Xufre in Spain where we lifted the boat over the summer while we where back in Gotland to work at our hostel we got there. Season 4 got a short sailing season where we only sailed to Lagos on the Algarve coast of Portugal where we hauled out once again this time to go throug a long list of boatwork and to build a solar arch to make the boat more self-suficient with electricity. After 6 months in Lagos we kicked-off season 5 with real bluewater sailing first to the northerly Atlantic island Porto Santo and Madeira and then further out to the Azores that lays in the middle of the Atlantic ocean before turning back towards the mainland and south coast of Portugal again.

Episode 034 Well it's my birthday. Something I have been wanting to do for ages since coming to the Bay of Islands, New Zealand is to walk to Russell from Opua (well...technically Okiato as we catch the vehicle ferry from Opua). Since it was my birthday, Adam kindly obliged. We usually sail to Russell and have driven to Russell but we have never walked to Russell. Walking gives us an opportunity to see things we wouldn't usually see if we had sailed or driven, such as visiting Okiato which was New Zealand's first capital. It's a truly fantastic and beautiful walk. Yes, there are many steps which make it challenging, and a certain level of fitness is required, but the views and landscape are absolutely breathtaking and make the challenges worth it. From walking through native forest to wetlands and through mangroves, this walk has something for everyone. It took us 6 hours to walk the 8 km track but we rewarded ourselves for our efforts by visiting Hōne's Garden, of course! We hope you enjoy the information from Adam about New Zealand's ecosystems! After a few years of studying and working hard we decided it was time to make a change. We needed a change that would allow us to spend more time together, give us a better work/life balance, and the freedom to travel. In December 2021 we moved onboard Te Tāiko, a Chico40, and since then we have been so fortunate to explore many of New Zealand’s pest free islands and its beautiful anchorages. With our love of travel and adventure, this lifestyle has enabled us to experience so much more than we could ever have imagined. From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore. Well, we made it back to Martinique for a few days and we had some great adventures. Ruby and Emerson had to go through something unfortunate when arriving the the island - They got a poisoning/allergy. We caught a Wahoo on the way sailing to the island and made a mistake keeping it too long on the deck before cooking it, we think that might be what caused it... so sad. We first went on a trail to see a waterfall called Carbet. It was a fun journey through the jungle and crossing many rivers. The waterfall was beautiful! The kids loved sliding down it. Gina and I didn't want to slide down it because well... it's not worth the risk at our age. The next day we got our lazy bag installed, finally! Super excited about that. Then we headed to the beach to spend some time. The kids made sand castles... or something like that 😂 It was a fun time! Next day we headed to see some historical ruins. It was the ruins of Dubuc Castle and got some pretty cool history to it. There's also a little museum that you can visit. That evening we spent time on the beach again and the next day we with some challenges we were able to put up our genoa. It's been a super fun time in Martinique! As always, thank you for watching.
