6 years ago we opened a spot in the ceiling of the salon to try and locate a leak. We found some rusty spots which we repaired and repainted. We continued looking for the source of the leak on the deck. We found some spots and repaired them. The leaks slowed but never completely stopped. The ceiling was made of plywood that was glued and stapled to the beams. This made accessing the wiring and the underside of the deck very difficult. It always started with a saw. To improve this situation we decided to make a ceiling from smaller removable pvc panels. This should improve access as well make cleaning it easier. Hope you enjoy! The Franjack lies flat on her keel on a sandy bottom at 24m in good general condition except for the forward cabin which is collapsed. In the engine hold of the Franjack, you can see green moray eels and lobsters; there's always a surprise. The wreck is covered in sponges.

Winterizing our catamaran was not originally in our plans. We wanted to sail south and enjoy tropical weather, while being scantily clad, while swaying with the palm trees in the gentle breeze, while sipping girly drinks from the Monica Lounge and laughing at our frozen friends up north shivering their you know what off. It is amazing how karma can kick you in the ass sometimes. Not quite retired yet, we had no choice but to endure what we hope will be one more winter with “Moments in Time”. Winterizing a large catamaran is not trivial so we filmed the process in the hopes that it will help someone else who could not escape south as well. We consulted the Farmer’s Almanac which called for a mild winter (it was not!), so we decided to leave “Moments in Time” in the water and winterized in the slip. We ran environmentally safe antifreeze through our raw water systems, our AC system, our freshwater systems, our black water systems, our diesel engines, and through the bilges and pumps. We completed some final inspections and removed perishables. Toni threw some old sheets over the leather in the saloon and before you know it, “Moments in Time” was hibernating for the winter. This year's Norfolk-Bermuda ocean training cruise brought some interesting sailing weather for the crew to deal with, and they did so with top-notch seamanship skills. Captain Frank Mummert expertly skippered our Island Packet 40 ocean cruising yacht with a crew of six in fast passages both to and from Bermuda. Initial weather forecasting predicted storm conditions for the scheduled day of departure from Norfolk, followed by a day of clearing weather, followed by another storm, followed by clearing weather. Our cruise plan was to delay for a day allowing the first storm to pass, then depart making as much southing as possible toward the Gulf Stream off Cape Hatteras, cross the stream and turn southeast toward Bermuda. This required them to heave to and ride out the second storm before entering the Gulf Stream, which they did well, and the plan worked to perfection. Captain Frank will discuss the cruise, the weather and the celestial navigation used during the cruise with commentary also by Captain David Gifford, who served as Mate, and Captain Tom Tursi, who served as shore-side weather adviser communicating with the ship by satellite-based email.

Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles Andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei komplett überholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. Seitdem lag Squib in der Wiener Kuchelau, und der Refit hatte begonnen. Am 17 August 2025 ist es wieder so weit. Obwohl Squib noch nicht ganz fertig ist, werfen wir die Leinen los und starten unsere erste Etappe donauabwärts. Dreieinhalb Wochen später erreichen wir das Donaudelta, der Mast wird gestellt, ein passendes Wetterfenster abgewartet, in zwei Sclägen überqueren wir das Schwarze Meer bis zum Bosporus. Ohne Einzuklarieren mit gehisster Q Flagge durchqueren wir die Türkei und erreichen 5 Tage später die Ägäis. Über Limnos und die nördlichen Sporaden segeln wir bis in den Großraum Athen, von wo aus Sabina nach Hause fliegt, weil ihr Urlaub zu Ende ist. È stata un’altra puntata ricca di spunti tecnici dove abbiamo cercato di capire come funzionano questi F50, anche nelle condizioni di vento leggero incontrate a Sydney. Protagonista della puntata è stata l’Ingegnere aerospaziale, e velista professionista, Andrea Emone, analista dei dati del team italiano Red Bull Italy SailGP Team. E proprio con Andrea abbiamo cercato di capire alcuni segreti del suo ruolo: i numeri di queste barche, ovvero una grande quantità di dati rilevata dai vari sensori di bordo, rappresentano delle informazioni spesso complesse, il compito di una data analyst è quello di “tradurre” in modo semplice i dati che arrivano dalla barca, sintetizzarli e metterli a disposizione del coach e dell’equipaggio.
