The Sailing Bluefin Crew joined the flotilla for a week to clean-up our beautiful Whitsundays, starting in the Lindeman Islands and adventuring all around the Whitsundays including to the gorgeous Whitehaven beach, pictured in this amazing preview! This was such a rewarding experience, with a fantastic outcome of over 2 tonnes of rubbish collected from the beaches around the Whitsundays over the week. In this sneak peak, we have just spent hours from 6 am to 12, hauling/digging out a dinghy from the mangroves behind Hasslewood Island, and picking up all sorts of other plastics including tyres, fuel containers, plastic bottles...the list goes on. After working hard to help our beautiful environment, we were so lucky to be able to enjoy the stunning day and warm waters of Whitehaven beach, one of the many precious beaches, we are working so hard to preserve. It's important for us to show the two sides of this beautiful place, we show us enjoying the one of the most beautiful places on earth, to emphasis how important it is that we keep it this way! The interesting thing about leaks on boats is that they are never located where you think they should be, so sometimes you have to play detective to find it. Interestingly enough sometimes the things that have no practical purpose on your boat such as the eyebrow on the cabin top side or a teak toe rail are things that boat owners do not take care off and are the source of a lot of leaks on boats. This is what we found on Reverie. As you know we are rebuilding our galley but with all the rain we had we found some leaks on the back corner of the galley. Now that is where they presented themselves, that was not the source of the leak. So here we go playing detective, using spy cameras to slide down tight spots to ultimately find our culprit. Now like every project on a boat, somethings you do things and have to wait for things to dry or cure before you can move forward, so we use that time to our advantage to finish cleaning our hear and finish the installation of our Inverter. The inverter was a big deal as we tested it by running our 12K BTU Dometic Air Conditioner on the renogy inverter and estimated how long we could run it. Ist denn schon wieder Sommerpause? Die Warnemünder Woche steht an, insofern war an diesem Mittwoch schon die letzte Wettfahrt des ersten Teils der Mittwochsregatta 2023 auf der Ostsee vor Warnemünde. Nach dem Kurs zur Reedetonne und zurück zur Mole mit den beiden Warnemünder Leuchttürmen wurde noch gegrillt und das Rennen ausgewertet. Danke an Veranstalter, Helfer und Griller und natürlich auch an den Wettergott, dass die Sonne schien. Etwas mehr Wind wäre nicht von Nachteil gewesen, die Vorhersage lag hier wieder einmal etwas daneben. Was aber keine Ausrede für die Platzierung sein darf. Andere kamen ja auch bestens mit den Segel Bedingungen zurecht. Tagessieger war SY Intoxicated mit einer X-41, gefolgt von der J-88 Nemo und der Luffe43 Inspiration. Aktuell liegt Nemo in der Gesamtwertung vorne. Nach der Pause sind einige Yachten bestimmt frisch poliert und es könnte nochmal spannend werden. Und trotz Pause darf natürlich weiter gesegelt werden und es gibt ja auch noch andere Regatten - wie etwa den Midsummer Cup direkt schon am kommenden Wochenende. For example, if you are going to install solar panels on your bimini frame, you may want to go to bigger stainless steel tubing on this Catalina 445 we went with 1.25” Stainless Steel to account for the additional weight of the solar panels and to stiffen the frame. Now, let's move on to electronics. When wiring your boat, safety is paramount. Start by creating a comprehensive electrical plan, labeling each wire, and using color-coded cables for easy identification. Ensure all connections are properly sealed to prevent water damage. When mounting electronics, consider their location for convenient access and protection from rough waters. As you can see, running wiring through a boat after construction is not an easy task and it is very time consuming. You have to open access points along the way to do your wire runs. So it is extremely important that you use the right gauge wire for the distance of the run and the use of the electronic. Cutting corners and using cheap thin wire, creates heat, adds resistance to the current flow and affects the life of your equipment. During installation, don't forget to follow manufacturer's instructions and consult a professional if needed. Properly grounding your electronics system is crucial for safety and optimal performance. Lastly, don't overlook regular maintenance. Make it a habit to inspect your canvas and electronics periodically for any signs of wear or malfunction. Clean any dirt or salt residue from the canvas and regularly test electronics to ensure they're working properly. Remember, a well-installed canvas and electronics system will not only enhance your boating experience but also ensure your safety on the water.
