We sail around the boisterous cape of Maleas and towards the beautiful anchorage of Elafonissos. Surprised by some stupid swells, we suffer the rolly anchorage and quickly set sail for a mire sheltered bay, we find the sheltered and shallow bay of Pavlopetri, once a blooming coastal town, now submerged in depths of around 2-3m the perfect spot for snorkeling thru history! Hello. We're back at the boat yard today. It's a cold winter's day but work must go on! Today's mainly about getting the Motor Pad bolts removed so I can replace the bolts and the motor pad itself. One thing you need to keep your eye on with the Drascombe Lugger is the bolts don;t get too rusty, especially if you have the original Zinc glavanised ones (Just like Lulu)! If tehy rust too much they can just break under the weight of the outboard and thats exactly the kind of thing that will happen when out at sea! I also dry fit the battery box and come into a few issue with it so it's back to the drawing bord with that one! It was a niggly old day today, with nothing going right, but you have to have these types of days to clear the path for the good ones so it was good to get it out of the way! Tom Slingsby and the Australia team may not have enjoyed the best of starts this weekend – indeed he confessed he was embarrassed by their starting record – but you couldn’t fault the team’s extraordinary recoveries in five of the six races. In the end it’s about getting to the event final and giving yourselves the chance of an overall win; and that’s what the Australian team did, capitalising on the opportunity to take their first event win of the season – better still on home waters on a cracking late summer day.

At Lagoon, celebrations are taking place throughout 2024, having started in March with the presentation of the Lagoon 60 at their Bordeaux site and continued with the Lagoon Escapade. Over the long weekend of May 17, 18 and 19, no fewer than 30 owners’ rendezvous were held simultaneously all around the world (well, almost simultaneously, ignoring the time difference...). In all, 300 Lagoons and 1,500 crew celebrated this anniversary. This 1997 Albin fishing boat, “Morningstar V”, is one rugged sport fisher that ideally doubles as a family cruiser. The roomy cabin located in the bow sleeps four in two berths. It has a large galley and dinette so you can comfortably enjoy your catch. The roomy head is very accommodating with a separate shower stall. She has wide side decks, a half-tower for cruising with great visibility, and a massive cockpit which is great for fighting big fish or for entertaining guests. Over 200 of these vessels were built from 1995 to 2007. They are very well-regarded for their stability and performance while under way, so you will have peace of mind while other boaters are heading for safe harbor. Morningstar V is a pristine, well- maintained, Tournament Express vessel. This boat appears virtually new and shows her owners’ pride throughout. Fully-loaded with all the gear you need, this Albin is turn-key for fishing or cruising. You will appreciate the enclosed wheelhouse because of comfortable captain’s seating and lots of solid handholds for moving about while in rough seas. Other wheelhouse amenities include A/C, fridge, wet bar, chopping board, fishing tackle and storage drawers. This is a very practical boat because the cockpit features a flip up transom bench seat, a large fish box, sliding transom door, rod storage, bait well and wash down. She is also equipped with shore power and a generator. Set up for extended cruising with the 5 kw Northern lights genset, propane stovetop , oven, Dickson cockpit BBQ, aluminum RIB with lightweight Yamaha kicker, Scotty depthmaster downriggers, upper and lower helm, enclosed head with walk-in shower, diesel furnace, 30 amp shore power, spacious cockpit, upper and lower helms. The twin GM 6.5L diesel engines have only 1077 hours and are immaculate, the owner is overkill on his preventative maintenance. Ray C120 GPS, Furuno radar, Furuno fish finder, Simrad Robertson auto pilot, Icom M504 DSC VHF radio, KVH Azimuth 1000 digital compass, Lewmar loud hailer, Clarion CVMDFS AM/FMCD radio sound system, Wilson cellular boost antenna, ZF electronic engine controls , trolling valves, AFI 3 speed pantographic wipers, Jabsco remote search light, 2 group D start , 2 x 6V house batteries, Xantrex 4A truecharge battery charger, pro mariner galvanic isolator, LED nav and cockpit lights, whale 600GPH manual bilge pump, cockpit washdown, 3 x 100 gal fuel tanks, Lewmar windlass, chain counter, 300′ chain, 200′ rode, 44lb plow anchor, spare anchor. Ask about moorage at Schooner Cove. The owner has taken meticulous care of this rare Albin 31 Tournament. Ask about how to arrange a sea trial today.

I interviewed Alistair Murray, President of Australia Sailing, to find out more about youth pathways in Australia, and why they weren't sending a team. He talked about the situation where youth classes are attracting 30 to 40 boats, but that the kids usually come from sailing families. Sailing is a hugely successful Olympic sport for Australia, especially in more recent times. The Aussies are in second place in the all-time Olympic sailing medal table (behind Great Britain), yet the domestic fleets in some of the Olympic classes, particularly the 470, are small. Also, many of Australia's most successful sailors could walk down the street in Sydney without being recognised. It's a strange dichotomy. Alistair wants sailing to be a mainstream sport, but to do that Australia needs a lot more sailors. In the interview, he reinforces that Australian Sailing are a huge supporter of World Sailing, and he wants to see Australia represented at the Youth Worlds, but outlines how the country's geographic location, and the funding required to send a team, led them to decide not to hold the necessary trials and not to send a team in 2023 and 2024. He argues that for those who do attend the Youth Worlds it's a wonderful experience, but there are too few who get to take part. Therefore, Australian Sailing are putting their focus on the championships that each class hold and generally more of a squad based approach. He's right to say that a tiny microcosm of those who take part in our sport get to race in the Youth Sailing World Championships, but the same can be said for the Olympics and the America's Cup, and they are aspirational. The Youth Worlds needs Australia, and I argue that Australia needs to be at the Youth Worlds.

11 YEARS & 50,000 MILES SAILING AROUND THE WORLD After 11 years of owning our sailboat and seven years sailing two-thirds of the way around the world, we've replaced almost everything, from rigging and electronics to our sense of self at sea. So, are we still sailing the same boat? In this episode, filmed in beautiful Brazil, we dive into the ancient philosophical paradox of the Ship of Theseus and ask how it applies to sailors, long term cruising life, and the evolution of a boat that changes as much as we do. Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2025 | Crosbie Lorimer brings you the latest from the dock in Sydney on race day.
It doesn't take much to lose your boat. One slip with your paperwork, one crossed border, or one forgotten safety update could leave your vessel tied up at the dock with a government seizure notice. In this video, we break down 10 Innocent Mistakes that regular sailors make every day—mistakes that can get your boat seized by the Coast Guard, Customs, or local authorities. We cover: Paperwork Traps: Why a "handshake deal" title transfer is a ticking time bomb. The "Restricted Zone" Risk: How crossing an invisible line on a chart can get you detained. Border Crossing Failures: The dangerous reality of carrying "innocent" items into foreign waters. Insurance Gaps: Why operating without proof of coverage is more than just a fine. Emergency Gear Red Flags: How an expired EPIRB or mismatched MMSI can trigger a seizure. Don't let a simple error cost you your pride and joy. Know the rules before you leave the dock. ⏱️ CHAPTERS: 00:00 Intro: It Can Happen to Anyone 00:59 1. Unregistered or Improperly Transferred Ownership 02:00 2. The first official gathering of the 38th America's Cup was a glitzy affair as five teams and the America's Cup entourage rolled into Naples, Italy. To many this event, set in the prestigious surroundings of the Palazzo Reale marked the start of the 38th Cup cycle. And as with pretty much every start to a Cup there were smiles all round and talk of big things to come. Justin Chisholm was there on behalf of PlanetSail and thrust his microphone under the chins of the key players to find out how they felt about the road to the Cup, while Matt Sheahan gives his take on what we have learned at the start of the 38th America's Cup cycle.

Boats aren't static homes; they're constantly moving, flexing, and aging. From bottom paint to through-hulls, every system needs maintenance. Expect 10% of value yearly, adding $200-$800 monthly. #BoatMaintenance #SailingLife #YachtLife #Maritimelaw
Life aboard is never just one thing. Some days are spent chasing waves, diving reefs, and soaking in the beauty around us… and other days are all about provisioning runs, boat chores, projects, and trying to keep up with life aboard with five kids. In this episode aboard Motherlode, we balance the reality and adventure of full-time sailing life in Panama. From early morning surf sessions and underwater exploring to silversmithing aboard and hauling groceries back through town, this is the rhythm of our floating home. It’s messy, beautiful, exhausting, rewarding — and we wouldn’t trade it for anything. Thanks for being part of the journey. ⛵ Subscribe and follow along as our family of seven continues life aboard, prepares for the next chapter, and keeps chasing freedom one anchorage at a time.

Back in November 2004, we went on a Canopy tour here in Puerto Vallarta with a group of friends. This Video is particularly funny since we were way over dressed (jungle attire) and were a lot heavier than we are now (2009). Enjoy!
