9/19/2024 sailing on Lake Erie from Geneva Ohio to Lorain Ohio 70 Miles Sailboat is a Watkins 27 the weather was 10 MPH North East winds. Started at 2:30 arrived at 11:30 am the next day (21 hours). Sailed for 55 miles until the wind dropped and my sailing speed was 1 mph. Decided to motor for the last 15 miles at 5 mph. Sailed sheet to tiller for 55 miles,18 hours with an average speed of about 3 MPH, with 2 course adjustments. 1st Course adjustment – Sailed 20 miles near Fairport Harbor then changed course for downtown Cleveland. 2nd Course adjustment – at about the 40 Mile mark I decided to skip Cleveland and continue to Loran. If I waited any longer I would not be able to clear Avon Point with just one course change. Some key points 1. First Balance your sailboat You know the boat is balanced because the tiller should be almost centered. 2. When you are sailing downwind attach the control line to the jib When you are going upwind attach the control line to the main sheet. Both downwind and upwind the control line is pulling the tiller to windward. This video only shows sailing downwind. 3. Make sure the control line does not rub against anything or it will not have a strong a pull on the tiller. On my sailboat I route the control from the jib sheet to a block on the same side as the jib sheet (leeward side) then across the cockpit to another block on the windward side then to the tiller. I use a 3rd block to make it easier to adjust but this is optional. Others run the control across the cabin top first. It does not matter just make sure it does not lose any power by rubbing against anything. 4. Once the control line is attached pull it tight until the jib sheet is a little slack then slaked the jib sheet a little more putting all of the load on the control line. 5. The bungee is always on the leeward side for both downwind or upwind sailing. The bungee should pull the tiller to the center (balance position) when the control line is slack. If the bungee pulls the tiller past the center (balance position) you will be over steering making a large S pattern and risking a uncontrolled gybe. Hope this helps

Leaving our boat tied up between two trees we journeyed by tender an hour up narrow forest channels then walked for an hour through pristine forest up to Badi Gaki, a very remote bird watching lodge. När något oväntat händer är det svårt att ha en plan. Men jag har fått många frågor om vad som händer nu, så låt oss prata lite om det. Just nu är vi tillbaka i Sverige och tar dagen som den kommer. Vårt fokus är att ta en sak i taget och vara i nuet. Det har vi faktiskt blivit ganska bra på efter två år av båtliv. Samtidigt har vi såklart funderat på hur det blir med båten och äventyret. Planen JUST NU är att återvända till Karibien om ungefär en månad. Beroende på hur vi mår, hur allt känns, hur världsläget är och hur vädret ser ut kanske vi fortsätter västerut i år. Eller så stannar vi kvar i Karibien. Vi vet helt enkelt inte exakt än, och det är okej. En sak vi verkligen lärt oss under två år som heltidsresande är att man kan ha en plan… men den ändras ofta. Det handlar lika mycket om mindset. Bestämmer man sig för tidigt för exakt vad som ska hända kan man lätt känna att man måste hålla fast vid det, även om det inte känns rätt längre. Vi känner att det kommer lösa sig och att det kommer bli bra, så länge vi är tillsammans. 💙⛵️ Resten får vi bestämma senare. Det fina med att ha ett flytande hem är ju faktiskt just det: Vi kan segla dit vi vill, på egen hand. 💙 Tack för att ni följer med oss på resan. Bienvenue dans un nouveau volet des Carnets de voyage du capitaine ⛵✨ Dans cette vidéo, je vous emmène au port de pêche de Monastir pour découvrir les coulisses du carénage d’un voilier et toute la préparation nécessaire avant une nouvelle saison de navigation. L’aventure débute par le convoyage du catamaran d’un ami jusqu’au chantier : attente de la sortie d’eau, mise à terre et calage du bateau, des étapes indispensables pour intervenir en toute sécurité sur la coque et les équipements. Je partage également le départ de plusieurs amis navigateurs pour la saison 2026, toujours un moment particulier dans la vie d’un port et du monde de la plaisance. Vous découvrirez ensuite le carénage d’Antécume : nettoyage de la coque, contrôle des œuvres vives, inspection de l’hélice, des anodes et entretien général du bateau. Le carénage est une étape essentielle puisqu’il permet d’éliminer algues et coquillages, d’améliorer les performances sous voile et de préserver la coque sur le long terme grâce notamment à l’antifouling. Au programme également : la révision moteur, mais aussi l’entretien des winches, ces équipements mécaniques indispensables à bord permettant de manœuvrer les voiles plus facilement et avec davantage de sécurité. Leur nettoyage et graissage régulier garantissent un fonctionnement fiable lors des prochaines navigations. Je vous présente aussi l’installation du Victron Smart Orion DC-DC 12/30A sur la batterie de service lithium d’Antécume. Ce chargeur intelligent régule l’énergie provenant de l’alternateur moteur afin d’assurer une recharge adaptée aux batteries lithium, tout en protégeant l’installation électrique et l’alternateur. Un équipement devenu presque incontournable sur les voiliers modernes équipés en lithium. Entre mécanique, manutention, entretien, logistique du bord et entraide entre plaisanciers, cette vidéo vous plonge dans la réalité de la préparation d’un bateau avant le retour en mer… et ici, ce n’est encore que le minimum 😉⚓🌍

April 2017 haben wir unseren Einstein in Flensburg bei eisigen Temperaturen zu Wasser gelassen, das Rigg gestellt und erste Trainingsmanöver gesegelt. Zwischenfazit: Die Farr 30 Einstein ist ein reinrassiger Racer mit enormem Regattapotential und ebenso großen Anforderungen an die Crew. Jetzt liegt es an uns, dieses Potential während der kommenden Monate abzurufen und uns auf die IDM zur Warnemünder Woche sowie auf Voiles de St. Tropez vorzubereiten.

Henrik Bergesen's Norwegian Class40 Hydra, skippered by Tristan Kinloch, finished the RORC Transatlantic Race at 22:02:23 UTC on Sunday, 09 December in an elapsed time of 15 days 10 hrs 2 mins 23 secs. Hydra was runner-up in the Class40 Division to Catherine Pourre's Eärendil. Early in the race, Hydra was very much in contention for the class win until a rudder problem forced the team to make a pit stop in the Cape Verde Islands. After completing the race, Hydra's team received a warm welcome on the dock from RORC CEO Eddie Warden Owen and Race Officer Steve Cole. Marina Manager Charlotte Bonin greeted the team with ice cold beers and presented the crew with a basket of Grenadian goods, including rum and chocolates, courtesy of the Grenada Tourism Authority. It's been an epic race; absolutely fantastic," commented Henrik Bergesen dockside at Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina. "I have had a great crew and we had perfect conditions. We had an issue with the rudders, but we came back and did a good job; we kept going and got back into second place, so I am very happy about that. After eating freeze dried food and desalinated water, the beer tastes really good. We are looking forward to some real food; barbecue chicken I think! After this race, we're well prepared for the RORC Caribbean 600 in February and it should also be great fun."
