Ein durch die Maschine angetriebener Hochleistungs-Wassermacher erzeugt bei uns das Trinkwasser während des Motorlaufs, vor Anker und beim Motoren, wo auch gleichzeitig die Batterien geladen werden. Ist etwas aufwändiger als elektrische Antriebe, aber es wird keine wertvolle elektr. Energie von den Batterien abgesaugt und es sind auch viel größere Leistungen möglich. Bei uns gibt es dadurch nur sehr kurze Maschinenlaufzeiten. Die Anlage wird einmal in der Woche für vier Minuten vollautomatisch mittels Zeitschaltuhr gespült, auch wenn wir nicht an Bord sind. So erspart man sich die Langzeitkonservierung. Es gibt nur EINE GROSSE, weit weniger empfindliche Umkehrosmosemembrane, statt vier herkömmlichen, für die Leistung von bis zu 240L/h. (je nach Wassertemperatur und Pumpendrehzahl) Ein wichtiger Schritt zur Autarkie, ob bei Langfahrt oder unbeschwertes Ankern im Küstenbereich. A high-performance watermaker powered by the engine, produces drinking water for us while the engine is running, at anchor and motor sailing, which also charges the batteries at the same time. It is a little more complex than electric drives, but no valuable electrical energy is sucked from the batteries and much higher output is possible. This means that our engines only run for a very short time. The system is rinsed fully automatically once a week for four minutes using a timer, even when we are not on board. This saves us the need for long-term preservation. There is only ONE LARGE, far less sensitive reverse osmosis membrane, instead of four conventional ones, for an output of up to 60 gal/h (240L/h). (depending on water temperature and pump speed) An important step towards self-sufficiency, whether on long-distance voyages or carefree anchoring in the coastal area. We are an Aussie couple with a dream to sail and scuba dive around the world. We bought our Beneteau Oceanis 430 in October 2023 with zero sailing experience but the belief that we can do this. We have filmed our journey from looking for boats, buying the boat, downsizing so we can liveaboard and all the messy wonderful life stuff in between. Join us now as we continue our ten day journey to sail our boat home from Townsville to Brisbane Queensland Australia. After a first day of sailing that lasted over 24hrs due to instrument failure we were stranded in Airlie Beach waiting for a marine electrician to look at the boat. With a new instrument panel installed we continue our sail back to Brisbane Queensland Australia. Day four has us sailing from Airlie Beach to Shaw Island. Our sailing learning curve is steep so come along with us as we learn and grow as liveaboard sailors.

In this episode we anchor beside Graves Island Provincal Park,Nova Scotia. While we were there for a few days we walked on a trail into Chester to pick up some groceries. We popped into a local train station museum, a cafe and took a walk along the water front. We enjoyed the mixed forest on our way back along the trail. Join me, Ryan the Rogue Rigger on my journey of restoring a Mach 2 International Moth that I picked up earlier this year. I plan on upgrading it with all the modern systems with out breaking the bank and then I will take you along for the steep learning curve of learning to sail this Tasmanian devil of a boat. I have dreamed of owning one of these since they first came out back in 2008 when I got to take one for a spin. It was an unreal experience/feeling that I have been chasing ever since. At the time they were crazy expensive to buy and not in my budget. These days they are still crazy expensive to buy new, now there are a lot of older moths on the second hand market that are relatively affordable (Less than a Laser/ILCA in this case). For those of you who don't know, an International Moth is a single handed 11 foot long hydro foiling sailboat. These boats literally fly over the water on two hydrofoils doing speeds 2-3 times the speed of the wind. After several weeks of upgrades in the shop "Mothra" is back together and ready to hit the water. This video is of two different sessions from last week with plenty of foiling! It was great to get the boat out on the bay with tons room to spread my wings and actually fly! Enjoy!

Ida Satersdal started sailing Snipes in 2000 and she's already been to two Women's World Championships. She had a Snipe fleet in her town in Norway and a skipper that kept asking her to come out and catch a ride. That's a perfect way to be introduced. Even though Ida learned to sail in big boats, for her the Snipe defines sailing -- both its complexity and its easy to pick up skills. She talks about how its not just about learning the mechanics of sail shape and boat handling, but all the other skills that need to be mastered too -- like reading the wind and weather patterns and of course tactics. Coming to Florida in November for the 2010 Snipe Women's World Championship sounded like a wonderful idea.
