This is a pretty focused video on our time in Fort de France for Carnival. What a wild experience! Carnival was quite different than we expected. It was somehow much more a cultural part of Martinique than we expected. 30,000 people in the streets all afternoon and evening for several days running. At least 3/4 of the spectators were costumed. Very little drinking or drug use apparent, but surging drum rhythms driving the party through the streets. The parades move very slowly and go on for hours and hours. There are multiple, simultaneous parade routes and after several hours most of the spectators have joined in, walking either ahead or behind a drum group or DJ truck they like. #MartiniqueCarnival #SailingMartinique #CruisingMartinique

We are Kathrin and Daniel. We sail, cruise and live aboard our sailing yacht SV Polaris Helvetica, a Bavaria Cruiser 46 since spriung 2021. We left our native Switzerland and moved to the UK almost two decades ago. In 2021, in our mid 50-ies, after our three boys left the nest we made a big decision. We left the rat race in London behind and made our beloved sailboat our primary floating home. Over the years we have added a few things to Polaris. We got rid of the standard propane gas cooker and replaced it with an electric cooker and oven. We fitted a generator and changed to a lithium (LiFePo) house battery bank. We added a 1'200W solar arch and a water maker. With all these upgrades Polaris is now a comfortable live aboard yacht. We sail her along Britain's beautiful coastline and we live on her summer and winter. Kathrin loves cooking and baking on board. You will see some of her cookery wonders across our episodes. We completely fell in love with our new lifestyle although we had to make some tough decisions. We vacated our rented house in London and sold or gave away all our belongings that had no space on Polaris. What a very liberating feeling to be able to say that all we own is with us on our small sailing boat. There's nothing else to care about. We enjoy our new freedom. We explore new places, discover their history and we love making new friends along our way.

An dieser Stelle ein herzliches Dankeschön in's Tal!! Die Zutaten zu einer Shakshuka sind bei uns meistens an Bord. Wenn dann noch dazu ein frisch gefangener Thuna an Bord ist, kommt es zu "Shakshuka 2.0"! Uns hat es besonders gut geschmeckt. This oar leather and button is for my 7' 6" oars for my Spindrift 10 dinghy. For the leather, I used Conceria Walpier 8oz veg-tanned leather. For the stitching, Maine Thread #40 waxed corded polyester. Polyester is well known for its UV resistance, and it's up to the task of a saltwater environment. The finished product is tapered and 11" in length. The warlocks should sit comfortably about 2" below the button.

When Luke Marsh joined GJW Direct to head up their Marketing Department he had no experience in sailing. In fact he had a phobia of water. Step by step he overcame his fear, and first gained his RYA Powerboat Level 2 qualification, then learned to paddleboard, and in the summer of 2024 took a sailing course, gaining his RYA Dinghy Level 1 and 2 Qualifications. I install new surface mount 12v sockets onboard my 1985 Hallber Rassy sailboat. The old european style sockets are outdated and reaching their end of life.
