The banded sea krait (Laticauda colubrina) is a species of venomous sea snake found at the Similan and Surin Islands Marine Parks. The snake is not aggressive as we can observe during the video I shot past season. There are fewer recorded bites from this species compared to other venomous species such as cobras and vipers as it is less aggressive and tends to avoid humans. If they bite, it is usually in self-defence when accidentally grabbed. Many fishermen are bitten each year when they try to clear sea snakes from their nets. Interesting detail, a paddle-like tail. The snake can reach up to 140 cm. In their natural habitat, sea kraits feed primarily on eels, but will occasionally prey on small fishes when they are able to trap them in the crevices of a reef. Because their bodies are larger and can withstand the increased pressure of greater depths, females often hunt in areas not available to the smaller males, which cannot survive at the same depths. Amazing Facts The venom of the sea krait affects both muscles and nerves. It is 10 times more toxic than that of a rattlesnake. Each snake can produce up to 10-15 mg (0.0004-0.0005 oz) of venom. Only a fraction of the amount produced is a lethal dose. It is estimated that the skin of the sea krait absorbs 1/5 of its total oxygen needs and eliminates almost all the carbon dioxide the snake produces. To spot this snake is very common on each live aboard trip offered by Khao Lak Scuba Adventures.

Once again the wind was not the issue today but an initially massive sea state that had the nimble RC44s disappearing in the troughs up to their spreaders. To make matters harder the wind and the wave train weren't aligned with boats sailing along the giant waves on starboard tack and crashing directly into them on port. And then there was the torrential rain that made the decks extremely slippery and helped cause two man overboard incidents – both crew successfully recovered. The day had three different winners with Russian Alexander Novoselov's Katusha for a second time winning the opening race of the day, while John Bassadone and his team of local heroes on board Peninsula Petroleum claimed race two and Bronenosec took today's third and final, marking a first ever race win in the RC44 for new co-helmsman Kirill Frolov, despite this only being his second day of racing in the class. After being kicked out Rabbat we are going to Mohamedia. But there they charge €45 a night to leave the boat a week and I can not afford that. So we sail to El Jadida. After 1 day there they kick us out because a 50 knot storm is coming and they do not want to take responsibility if anything happens ?! So they are sending us out at sea in 30 knot winds to try to make it to Jorf Lasfar before all hell breaks loose. We sail out seeing 5 to 6 meter waves hitting the shore. this is insane. It should be illegal for a harbor to do this! Guangzhou has the reputation of a city where people like to eat! So let’s take a quick tour in a local supermarket to see what ingredients are available in modern China. Look over my shoulder as I quickly tour a Walmart supermarket (no affiliation the the US chain Walmart, I believe). See the typical Chinese ingredients fight for space with the western foods! Some items will probably surprise you … I looked in several other stores without any success to find cheese, marmelade, … and was told that I would not find that … until I stumbled until this well-stocked supermarket, busy with noisy vendors and clients! Sometimes you just have to let things go. Drop them. Simply because they’re heavy. There are certain things you can’t change or even affect. As doing nothing is one of the hardest duties of man, it is necessary. We are in Black Cay, Bahamas, and the world is storming around us. We are still able to fish, swim and explore - so we decide to drop the sails for a few days and take advantage of being #offgrid!! We have our own private and uninhabited island, and we're making the most of it.
