Sailing my 2010 Precision 18 sailboat downwind on a high-altitude Rocky Mountain lake under a double-reefed mainsail in heavy winds. My preference when sailing downwind in heavy air is to reef the mainsail and keep the wind on the port or starboard quarter. On this particular day, the winds were frequently shifting by up to 40 degrees, so keeping the wind on the quarter reduced the chances of the wind shifting behind the stern and causing an unintended or crash gybe. I don't use a boom preventer on my boat because my lake is very small and it's just another line to get fouled on the boat--just my personal preference for my sailing situation. Première navigation sur Jael : 70 milles de bonheur à deux C'était notre première vraie sortie en mer à bord de Jael, notre catamaran. Une traversée de 70 milles, à deux seulement, pour tester le bateau, nos compétences, et surtout notre complicité à bord. Le vent était avec nous, la mer relativement calme, et Jael s’est comporté à merveille. Tout s’est parfaitement déroulé : les manœuvres se sont enchaînées avec fluidité, la navigation s’est faite dans une belle ambiance, entre concentration et plaisir simple d’être en mer. À bord, l’équilibre entre confort et performance nous a conquis. Pas de casse, pas de stress, juste le plaisir de naviguer ensemble, à notre rythme, en harmonie avec les éléments. Arrivés à bon port, un brin fatigués mais heureux, on s’est regardés et on s’est dit : on remet ça demain. Et c’est exactement ce qu’on va faire. Jael est prêt, nous aussi.

The Smile crew are leaving Smile and Winter behind, and heading back to Australia for Summer and to see family. As guests of Bali and Beyond Travel Fair, we were invited to experience the Bali Safari and Marine Park. This place is as well marketed and run as any park of its sort in any large American city, just on a smaller island scale. The daliy program is well marked out, the pace keeps people moving but not over congested. The displays and activity areas are well done. The Marine Park is at this time only a small aquarium area, The Elephant show was educational and entertaining. The "zoo" tour was well orchestrated, altho it is hard to see animals confined to specific areas, even if the park gives them as much space as it can. The lunch buffet was also well-orchestrated to handle large crowds and was copious with lots of quality fresh ingredients. There was an elaborate stage performance depicting a well known Balinese story in a huge theatre in the afternoon, but filming was not allowed. The only congestion in the park was the depositing of, and the recovery of photographic gear before and after the show. For those who like animal parks and large crowd attractions it is well done, you can tell a lot of attention has been played to logistics. We ourselves like smaller scale activities with more personal interaction with local people and endemic surroundings.

Im März 1937 legte der Berliner Architekt Robert Kisch die Pläne für die Kaserne in Krampnitz vor. Das Heeres-Neubauamt begann im Frühjahr 1937 mit den Bauarbeiten. Fertigstellung wahrscheinlich gegen 1939. Der Umzug der Heeres-Reit- und Fahrschule erfolgte in Etappen und begann bereits 1937 mit dem Lehrstab und wurde 1939/40 abgeschlossen. Seit November 1938 unterstand die Heeres-Reitschule dem „Chef der Schnellen Truppen“, General Heinz Guderian. Im Juni 1941 erfolgte die Umbenennung in „Schule für Schnelle Truppen“, 1943 in „Panzertruppenschule II Krampnitz“. Im Winter 1944 erfolgte die Verlegung der Hauptbestandteile der Panzertruppenschule nach Bergen, nur die berittenen Ausbildungseinheiten verblieben in ihren Kasernen. Das Gelände der Militäranlage ist rund 120 ha groß. Die prägenden Bauten sind der weithin sichtbare Turm unmittelbar am Eingang, das Offizierkasino, das Offizierswohnheim und das Fähnrichswohnheim. Die Gebäude stehen unter Denkmalschutz und sind typisch für die Militärarchitektur der 1930er Jahre. Ab 1945 war hier die Sowjetarmee stationiert, nach 1992 wurde das Gelände nicht mehr militärisch genutzt. 2008 wurde das Gelände vom Land Brandenburg für rund 4,1 Mio. Euro an die TG Potsdam Entwicklungsgesellschaft verkauft. Die hat im Sommer 2011 einen Masterplan vorgelegt, der den Bau und die Sanierung von knapp 400 Gebäuden mit 1.651 Wohnungen auf 75 ha vorsieht.[1] Das Gelände wird gerne vom nahen Filmstudio Babelsberg aus als Kulisse genutzt, so wurden hier u. a.
