► Conceived in 2013 to ease the pressure on the traditional ARC, which has been taking sailors across the Atlantic from East to West since 1986, the ARC+ has become increasingly popular thanks to its stopover in Mindelo, Cape Verde. According to Paul Tetlow, General Manager of the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers, the Mindelo stopover has many advantages - especially for family crews. The route, although longer overall, is in fact two legs shorter (11 to 16 days for Mindelo - St. Georges) than the ARC's “direct” transatlantic passage and features a generally more clement southerly route. The stopover also serves to strengthen the bonds between the crews. Arriving in Grenada, in the far south of the West Indies, means there are no questions about the Caribbean program: you're heading north until May, and that's that! This year, no fewer than 91 yachts ranging in size from 36 to 72 feet (11 to 22 m) docked at Grenada's luxurious Port Louis marina. Among them were no fewer than 27 catamarans - a ratio that is steadily increasing in favor of multihulls. On the dock, 434 sailors of 26 different nationalities shared their ocean experience. 37 children took part in the adventure: among them, Lauren, Rebecca and Michela, aboard the Dutch Excess 11 AtC, looked after Archie, the ARC+'s teddy bear mascot... The ARC+, deliberately oriented towards cruising, has no racing division, whereas the ARC does, but only for monohulls. All multihulls are therefore authorized to use their engines, but they are required to declare the times they use them, and an hourly penalty is logically assigned. It can be strategically useful for getting out of an area of calms more quickly and optimize passage time. As a consequence of this “motor-driven” regatta, it's the compensated time that motivates the crews and interests us. Sailing the Hobie15 with a 86yr old, very experienced sailor. Location is the calabrian coast of the mediteranian sea, summer 2022. We have been to the Aldiana Calabria hotel for our holiday and there, you are able to sail catamaran for free in case you have a sailing license of the VDWS international. So we took a catamaran, went out on sea and enjoyed a ride with easy going but also hard sections. I was able to learn a lot and could furthermore experience my personal limit. We hit the 20kts mark a few times in a 5-6bft wind. My skipper just did not press the last juice out of the cat as we both decided beforehand not to do so... With the highly respectable age of 86, he did not want to get into the trapeze, so I did. Enjoy my other video solo sailing the Hobie 15 in lighter winds...

RORC De Guingand Bowl Race 2025 Start: Saturday, 17th May 2025 Course: Cowes – Around Marks (82nm) Organised by: Royal Ocean Racing Club, in association with the Royal Yacht Squadron The RORC De Guingand Bowl Race marked the fifth race of the 2025 RORC Season’s Points Championship—the world’s largest offshore racing series. It also served as Round One of the IRC Two-Handed National Championship and the second event in the newly launched RORC Cowes Offshore Racing Series. With the hottest May in over 30 years, 71 teams took part in the race in sparkling conditions. The RORC fleet made for a spectacular sight as they raced east out of the Solent. Chris Frost’s Carkeek 40+ Amp-lifi claimed Line Honours and overall victory after IRC time correction. Second place went to Gery Trentesaux’s Ker 43 Long Courrier, while Chris and Vanessa Choules’ 37-year-old Sigma 38 With Alacrity finished third overall and took the win in IRC Four.
