We wished we could stay longer in Eleuthera, but we had to get South to the Exumas to pick up Brown's daughter from the airport. This is our FIRST family member to visit us. So, we staged at Tarpum Bay in southern Eleuthera and picked up the anchor at day break. We were off. It was a super sporty sail across the Exuma Sound and we tried to point as far South as possible, but the wind did not cooperate. We ended up at Cistern Cay, a beautiful island that forms the southern end of the cut with its namesake. The island is a private island and owned by some VERY rich, powerful, and cranky people. This is how I fitted a GP14 Spinnaker to my Drascombe Lugger. It's a Symmetrical sail so used for downwind scenarios and in this video I show you every step I take in getting the sail setup and rigged on the boat. There's plenty to think about, lots to tweak but this is basically all I needed to do to get it flying!! Bien installés au mouillage dans la rivière Kourou, nous continuons l'explorations de la région : le bord de plage et la tour Dreyfus, le Centre spatial guyanais, la Montagne aux singes. L'immersion dans la jungle guyanaise est grandiose et pour une fois il ne pleut pas ! Une incroyable diversité de plantes et d'arbres, des chants d'oiseaux, des papillons morpho, des colibris, des lézards... La vue sur la région est magnifique. La visite du centre spatial ce fait en autocar : le site est très étendu et il n'est évidement pas permis de se promener librement. Et ça nous arrange bien vu la quantité d'eau qui nous tombe dessus ce jour-là ! Deux guides se relaient pour nous expliquer les installations : 3 heures de visites très techniques et particulièrement intéressantes. Ils sont en pleine préparation pour le lancement d'Ariane 6 !!! Avant de mettre le cap sur Saint-Laurent, nous faisons une halte aux Iles du Salut. Situées juste en face de Kourou, elles ont servis de bagne jusqu'en 1947. Certains bâtiments sont à l'abandon et d'autres ont été rénovés, une atmosphère particulière y règne ; entre calme et traces du passé, charme et obligation de mémoire. C'est maintenant les touristes qui y séjournent, bien accueillis par les agoutis, paons et capucins ! Quel plaisir de les voir évoluer en liberté, même sous une averse intense. Des averses intenses, c'est ce qui nous attend encore durant les 20h de navigation vers Saint-Laurent du Maroni ... Mais qu'est ce qu'il pleut en Amazonie !!!

Nous quittons le village de Rotoava dans l'atoll de Fakarava pour partir à destination de l'atoll de Toau situé à environ 23 miles. La passe nord de Fakarava est la plus grande des Tuamotu et devrait par conséquent être facile à traverser. Nous avons commis une erreur en voulant passer par le milieu car c'est là que se trouve le mascaret, càd, la rencontre du courant sortant avec les vagues qui essaient de rentrer. La 2ème passe est celle de Toau. A nouveau pas de difficulté particulière car elle est assez large mais à nouveau, il y a du mascaret mais cette fois on arrive à mieux anticiper par rapport à celle de Fakarava. Nous mouillons au SE de l'atoll. Il y a des bouées (4) mais elles sont toutes prises. On en récupère une le jour suivant car un bateau est parti. A terre, on récolte des noix de coco mais on en replante aussi. Nous apercevons des locaux dans une des maisons. Nous partons à leur rencontre et c'est le coup de foudre. Ils sont géniaux et jamais on aurait imaginé que nous allons, par la suite, nous côtoyer pendant 3 semaines. Mais ça, ce sera pour le prochain épisode.

Cette boucle autour de la planète part et arrive à Barcelone (Espagne). Il s'agit d'un défi sportif extrême et d'une aventure océanique qui mettent les limites humaines à l'épreuve. Organisée par la Fondation Barcelonaise pour la Voile Océanique (FNOB), la régate fait partie du championnat du monde IMOCA Ocean Masters. Le départ de la course sera donné le 31 décembre 2014 à 13h00, avec une ligne de départ mouillée en face du W Barcelona hotel devant le port de la ville. Les premiers concurrents sont attendus à la fin du mois de mars 2015. Les bateaux parcourent 23 000 milles nautiques lors d'une circumnavigation de Barcelone à Barcelone, en laissant les caps de Bonne Espérance (Afrique du Sud), Leeuwin (Australie) et Horn (Chili) à bâbord (leur gauche) et l'Antarctique à tribord (leur droite). Pendant les trois mois de course, les skippers tracent leurs routes au milieu de 12 zones climatiques et traversent trois océans, en plus d'une navigation dans la mer Méditerranée. Les équipages naviguent sur des IMOCA 60 de 18,28 mètres de long. Leurs mâts peuvent atteindre une hauteur maximum de 29 mètres, soit la hauteur d'un immeuble de dix étages.
