Jane is back and we do a little more destruction before starting to rebuild the forecabin, starting on our first watertight bulkhead using a technique from Ian Nicolson to avoid hard spots in the hull where the bulkhead is attached. In coming weeks we will be transforming this cabin as preparation of our 45 year old Rival 38 for a Sustainable Sailing retirement in a few years. Two years ago, when we bought Vida she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings (much of it not working). We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all electric (motor, cooking etc). All the rigging is being replaced with Dyneema and we are significantly re-working the cabins. Ahoy, we eventually crossed the line. A sailor's dream, an accomplishment which circles in the same range as climbing one of the high peaks of our planet. We were so excited and the stories the captain spread made us even more excited. He told us about a court and a trial with King Neptune and that we have to pay for our sins and we need to sacrifice what we love, that it will be ugly and that there is no way of avoiding it. It's the law of the King and he rules hard with tadpoles who doesn't respect it. So don't argue or wine about it! OK, where was that written when we signed up for the trip?
