35 knots of wind turned our dinghy upside down, leaving us wondering what happened to the Torqeedo battery! We retrieve the dinghy and motor, open up the battery to check for water, make some pancakes, take a short beach walk… and later things get even worse when we break the Torqeedo propeller! A partir dali, a semente estava plantada e a busca por uma nova casa flutuante começou. A primeira dúvida: escuna ou veleiro? Para Júnior, a resposta veio do bolso. Ao calcular o custo do diesel para uma viagem de Paranaguá a Angra, a conclusão foi rápida. Como ele mesmo disse, com um cálculo de pão-duro, ele percebeu que "um veleiro é uma grande opção", afinal, ele vai no vento. A economia falou mais alto e o sonho ganhou uma vela. Mas a busca por um veleiro pronto esbarrou em dois problemas clássicos: o orçamento baixo e a altura de Júnior, que não se encaixava nos barcos que encontravam. A solução? Uma que parecia loucura: construir o próprio veleiro. Inspirados por um blog, e com a experiência prévia de ter construído apenas um galinheiro torto, eles mergulharam no projeto de uma vida. Essa filosofia de fazer com as próprias mãos se estende para a tecnologia a bordo. Em vez de comprar um chartplotter caro, Júnior montou o seu próprio sistema usando um Raspberry Pi, um pequeno computador que roda todas as cartas náuticas, GPS, AIS e profundímetro, compartilhando tudo via Wi-Fi com um tablet no cockpit. 126' Christensen Tri-Deck Motor Yacht, SEA BEAR was expertly built by Christensen Shipyard and finished with the highest quality materials. In 2011, she had a complete exterior paint job at Rolly Marine, new teak decks, and Navy blue window line. In 2009/10 she underwent an extensive $2M complete mechanical refit that included a new micro-command system and a major engine overhaul. Her interior was completely renovated with all new soft goods, furnishings, headliner, fixtures, etc., along with upgraded electronics and watertoys. Her layout features a four stateroom layout including two full-width King staterooms, one on-deck and one below, each with his/her marble bath. There are two guest staterooms with queen beds and ensuite marble baths, along with forward crew quarters separated from yacht. Her spacious interior is finished in Brazilian Honey teak joinery with gold, stainless steel, stone of onyx, galaxy granite and European fabrics. Powered by Detroit Diesel 12V-92's and 7500 gallons of fuel SEA BEAR has transatlantic range and has completed two crossings on her own bottom. Additional equipment includes triple Northern Light generators, Naiad stabilizers, bow thruster, and 1400 GPD watermaker.

Impi is sailing around the world and New Caledonia has become our most 'returned to country', not only for its beauty and amazing friendships forged, but also largely because of one abandoned island dog called Moose (Mouss). The dilemma we now face is to discover when the appropriate time would be to remove Moose from his island and persuade the authorities to allow him to be moved to a land based home. We have debated this issue with some authorities here in New Caledonia and were advised that after numerous attempts to remove Moose from his island - they eventually decided to leave him there because he displayed such an unwillingness to go! Now we have engaged Guy Kane, the flying vet who regularly treats Moose against pain to ask for his opinion. We hope this movie will mean something to you all - Moose certainly is a very unique and special dog and considering his future really is one that tugs on our heartstrings.
