One of my major goals this year was to eventually sail to Kefalonia in Greece so that I could propose to Abril properly in one of our favourite places, Asos. But before we could get there, we had to go through all the necessary arriving procedures in the island's capital, Argostoli (another beautiful town). There was a moment when it looked like we wouldn't have enough time for Asos, but we got there in the end! We finally ended up in Nydri, Lefkada, where we'd be meeting a couple of friends. We were luck enough to be present for Greece's Ohi day celebrations, we had some great sailing, and almost adopted (or kidnapped!) a little cat! Hope you enjoy! 00:00 - Start 00:28 - Arriving in Argostoli 02:08 - Ohi (Oxi) Day Festival 04:09 - Fixing the head 05:11 - Customs, coastguard and immigration 09:44 - Leaving Argostoli, sailing to Asos 12:05 - Arriving in Asos 13:00 - After getting engaged 15:03 - Walking through Asos 17:35 - Venetian fort - from 2021 trip 20:22 - Leaving Asos, sailing to Nydri 22:38 - Arriving in Nydri 23:30 - Coming in next video
What place could give you ancient natural wonders, a massive movie set and an international yacht race? Malta delivers again with a bit of everything! There's the incredible underwater and above water wonders of Dwejra, including the Blue Hole, the Inland Sea, and some scary caves where "Nessie Lives". Also, the fascinating "Popeye Village", a complete village in a bay, where the 1980 film starring Robin Williams was filmed. Then some rough weather getting back to Valletta, where we watched the Rolex Middle Sea Race, before leaving (or trying to leave) for Greece. 00:00 Start and Introduction 00:27 - Recap 00:37 - Sailing to Dwejra 02:33 - Dwejra Bay 03:43 - Caves 06:18 - Swimming and under-boat photos 07:33 - Sunset in Dwejra 09:12 - Inland Sea 10:16 - Grocery Run 12:25 - The Blue Hole, Azure window ruins 15:58 - Sailing to Popeye village 20:15 - Popeye Village Film Set 24:38 - Sailing to Marsaxlokk Harbour 26:00 - Sailing to Valletta in bad weather 28:10 - Start of Rolex Middle Sea Race in Valletta 31:20 - Preparing for crossing to Greece 32:28 - Checking out of Malta and Leaving for Greece 33:48 - Coming up in next video
Malta is surely one of the quintessential sailing destinations! Good wind, great anchorages, incredible scenery and amazing locals! So nice that not even having to re-take our stern-to anchoring in the Blue Lagoon 3 times could put a damper on things! We were originally planning to make just one video for Malta but there is SO much to see and do, it had to become 2 (at least!), so this is part 1 of our Malta cruising. 00:00 - Start 00:11 - Recap of journey so far 00:47 - First evening in Valletta 01:37 - Valletta Old Town 04:54 - National War Museum, Fort St. Elmo 06:05 - Around the Marina in Marsamxett Harbour, fixing autopilot 06:45 - Planning to go cruising, weather forecast 08:04 - Sailing Valletta to Gozo 11:53 - Mgarr Marina and Ghajnsielem, Gozo 12:16 - Abandoned Biblical Theme Park, Bethlehem 14:17 - Stern-to anchoring problems in Blue Lagoon 17:53 - First evening in Blue Lagoon 20:03 - Morning run exploring Comino 21:25 - Blue Lagoon chilling 26:13 - Exploring the area with the dinghy 32:11 - Amazing sunset over the Blue Lagoon 33:56 - Playing piano and cooking aboard 34:55 - Morning run exploring Comino (north side) 35:30 - Cave in Blue Lagoon 38:00 - Sailing from Blue Lagoon for Dwejra 38:38 - Coming up in next video!
It is truly a labour of love! We knew it would take some elbow grease to get Argo's teak wood trim up to a shine, but nothing prepared us for how much work it would be! After one month in a marina working on Argo, our floating home, we were itching to get sailing again! Of all the things we fixed while in Tunisia, the autopilot was not one of them. Not to worry, with our friend, Robin (who we met in Hammamet) joining us, we had a beautiful crossing complete with spinnaker sailing (testing new kite), kinky dolphins, and beautiful sunrises/sunsets! We had to escape the European Schengen zone! While we still had several weeks up our sleeve, we really needed to complete some boat work and didn't want to waste our Schengen days in a marina hard at work. More than this, Tunisia has long been on my travel wish list and to see it by our own sailboat promised to be an adventurous side-quest to our European summer! With old Arab Medinas, dramatic coastline, Ancient Roman Ruins, and a fascinating colonial past, Tunisia proved to be a destination in its own right, not just an escape from the Schengen area! With the days on our Schengen Visa clock ticking, we had to start making our way out of the EU! While we had to go, we weren't about to leave without first seeing the best spots in the Balearics and West Coast Sardinia. Turquoise coves, Medieval towns, beautiful beaches, and ancient ruins - a bit of everything! It wasn't all Champagne sailing, however, with a squall hitting us hard in between Menorca and Sardinia. The scariest moment we've had on Argo so far, and definitely a learning experience not to be taken lightly. Too much to see and do and not enough time! Ibiza, Ushuaïa, Formetera and Mallorca. We're getting the hang of this liveaboard lifestyle, especially when it starts with Summer in the Balearics! We are, however, learning what works and what doesn't in liveaboard life. Our big lesson here - Don't Make Such a Strict Schedule! It's best to go with the flow, take our time and soak up every minute of it. We really like to make things difficult for ourselves! We had to rush to get our boat ready to both live aboard, and cruise with our friends within just a few days! This is just after leaving Dubai, our home for the last 6 years The boat was ready to go but we very quickly had yet to learn how some of he boat's systems were set up, go through all the spare parts, organize our belongings, throw out a lot of old stuff we wouldn't need, and much much more! So many beautiful places in Mallorca, and this is only half of it! From North-East to South-West, these are our highlights including beautiful coves, fire fiestas in Puerto de Pollenca, the vintage train in Soller, and lots of beautiful coastline.
We spent a very special two nights at anchor in Formentera on our sailboat. We anchored close to shore on the famous Playa de Ses Illetes to swim, snorkel, paddle board and exclaim about the colour of the water?

Our first video and first trip to Greece to look at live-aboard sailboats! On this trip we looked at a Moody 422 and Jeanneau Sun Odyssey to see if either would be our future floating home! Apologies for the portrait orientation videos; most of the footage was taken before we thought to put anything on youtube!
