Deciding between buying or chartering a superyacht is a pleasant dilemma to have, but also an important decision to make. Both choices have considerable advantages, but it is good to be aware of the down-sides of both options too. This video takes a good look at the pros and cons of buying or chartering, and leaves the final decision to you. Let me know in the comments below which decision you would make, and if you have experience of either one I would love to hear from you about your experience. Ive been stubbernly using the good old, original two hand genoa winches sinse I bought "Tessie" in 2005. They have done a good job after 50 years of service, sinse the boat was new in 1976. After thousands of miles across the seas, its now time to change them out to a couple of selftailing winches. And yes, I will have to admit; selftailing is alot better.. :) Seldèn winches: https://www.seldenmast.com/products/winches/ T-shirts and merch inside EU: https://shop.spreadshirt.no/nbjs-factory US and everywhere else: https://shop.spreadshirt.com/nbjs-factory-usa/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/nobullshitjustsailing Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/erikaanderaa/ Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/erikaanderaa PayPal: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/erikaanderaa My website: https://nbjs.no/

Welcome to Episode 39 of Carpe Diem Sailing. I'm back on my regular posting schedule and in this episode I go over the navigational aids systems in IALA Region A and B. I also dispel the rule of thumb of "Red Right Returning" which only works in half the world and in very specific situations. Best to always consult a chart. I cover the lateral buoys, day-beacons, bifurcation buoys, cardinal buoys, special buoys and talk about navigational ranges. as usual I will have shownotes on our website. Also FYI I always turn off mid roll ads. We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. It feels so good to be in the tropical Cape Verde! We're in the city Mindelo, São Vicente, after sailing from the Canaries. Mindelo is a city full of colors, noise and friendly people. RAN needs a bit of work but we have plenty of time to explore the city and the island São Vicente. The waters are very clean, the beaches are well-groomed, the food is excellent, the people are delightful and there are anchorages to suit everyone. Whether you want a quiet scenic bay with turquoise water or a bustling harbor filled with shops, cafes, and historical old towns you’ll get your fix. There are even party towns if you’re up for a rave or a foam party. The Balearic Islands are nothing like Italy, Greece, or Turkey so I can’t compare and contrast – they are in a league of their own. Many bays having mooring buoys and others allow for free anchoring. And there are loads of marinas if you prefer that scene. It has it all. As long as you plan ahead and understand the weather conditions you can surely enjoy the islands for free at anchor. That being my quick introduction to the Balearics, I want to take you for a trip around the island of Minorca. It’s the island located furthest to the east and the first of the Balearics that we toured before completing our circumnavigation of the Mediterranean. We purchased the boat in Palma, Majorca (the next island over) so Minorca marks our last stop before our circle completes. I’m hoping this article and the accompanying video will create an interest for you to consider a sailing holiday, extended cruising season, or even a sightseeing trip to Minorca. Sailing from Corsica to Minorca – how did we get to Minorca in the first place? So…since April 2014 (18 months ago as I write) we’ve sailed a total of 6,445 nautical miles. Leaving from Palma, Majorca we sailed to Gibraltar, Algeria, Malta, Sicily, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and then back hitting Greece, Italy, Sardinia, and Corsica. Eventually, the time came to leave Corsica and make our last stop before completing our Mediterranean circumnavigation. We left the majestic French town of Bonifacio on the island of Corsica at 5am in the morning. (Watch my video on Bonifacio, here: Sailing into Bonifacio on the French island of Corsica) The morning sky was still pitch black and only a rubbish truck could be heard murmurings through the town. I heard a quiet catfight and otherwise, the only noisemakers were my husband and I felt our way around the deck of the boat. The only thing to light our path was the yellow-orange town lamps. Looking around at the narrow carved rock exit I was grateful we had some light. Where’s the moon I wondered? As we slipped our lines and slowly eased out into the cliff-sided canal towards the open Mediterranean, my husband, Simon, headed forward and we whispered our customary goodbye: “Goodbye Bonifacio. Goodbye Corsica. Thank you so much for having us. We had a great time and appreciate your hospitality!” When creating a passage plan, Simon aims for us to arrive at our final destination during daylight. Entering a new harbor during the day is so much easier due to obvious reasons (you can see)! On this particular trip, the plan was to leave Bonifacio, Corsica, and arrive on the island of Minorca around 7pm the following day but we, instead, arrived at 3pm. The first stretch of our trip was brilliant as we were hitting speeds of 8.5 knots. Finish reading at: http://www.sailingbritican.com/sailing-around-minorca/ #sailing #sailingblog #sailingvideo

**NOW SOLD** https://www.yoti.com.au/listing/moody-45-ds-cool-change Cool Change is a Moody 45 Deck Saloon listed exclusively for sale with YOTI on Pittwater. Launched new in 2008 for the owner of Team Windcraft and being a world premiere; a huge amount of extra build hours went into making this hull special. She was built using epoxy which later became a very expensive option – epoxy was used to make the hull lighter, stronger and virtually osmosis proof for life. Cool Change has since been cared for by her experienced and long term owners who have used her for exactly what designer Bill Dixon had in mind – an easy to handle, very comfortable, larger cruising yacht. The Moody 45DS offers single level sailing and living on board from cockpit to saloon with wrap around protected views from the luxurious saloon. The quality Mahogany finish interior is beautiful and practical. The generous owner's cabin positioned forward offers multiple opening hatches and the centre line skylight, writing desk with padded stool and access to the private ensuite with separate shower stall. A second head and shower is to starboard. Two double guest cabins are also positioned on the accommodation level. The layout was chosen with the VIP larger guest cabin to starboard. All lines are led aft to electric winches by the twin helms where the electric in-mast furling is also controlled. The large protected cockpit with folding table is easily accessed from the dock by the electric drop down boarding or bathing platform. The teak side decks offer protection via a full length bulwark and continuous stainless steel handrail. A retractable anchor arm adds to the clean lines and easily navigable foredeck with sun bed cushions. Cool Change was launched with a huge amount of upgrades plus has been intelligently managed and improved on further still. The Yanmar shaft drive engine is the larger 110Hp (upgraded from 75hp) with a three blade Gori folding propeller. Both bow and stern Max Power thrusters are installed. Electronic throttle and thruster controls are repeated at both helms. The full three refrigerators are installed including the cockpit table unit. Standing rigging was replaced new in just 2018 plus an inner forestay has been added to hoist a storm jib. The fully battened mainsail from Hood with three reef points was new in 2018 and the self tacking headsail was new in 2017. An asymmetric spinnaker with top-down furler is included with a custom retractable bowsprit. A 60 L hr water maker has been installed. Electronics by Raymarine include two colour plotters, AIS (transmit and receive) plus two auto-pilot drive units. The 8KVA Fischer Panda generator is neatly installed in the seriously adequate engine room. Two reverse cycle air-conditioning units service all cabins. This is a luxurious, comfortable, large cruising yacht which can be easily managed by a couple and will safely take you across oceans or simply offer fuss free day sailing in style. Contact YOTI for full details and to arrange inspection on Pittwater on info@yoti.com.au +61 (0)2 9660 6222.

Use code SVDELOS at the link below to get an exclusive 60% off an annual Incogni plan: https://incogni.com/svdelos We've got a doozie of an episode for you this week! After a very challenging 8 days at sea, we had finally made it to the calm and crystal clear waters of Niue, a literal rock in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. We were suuuper excited not just to explore this very unique part of the world, but also to get some good nights of sleep and recuperate a bit...we were a bit rusty after all since our long stint on land, and this last passage had hit us pretty hard. But only about 24 hours after arriving, as Mother Nature has a tendency to do, everything changed completely, and we found ourselves faced with a VERY tough decision...Neither option was good, but the stakes were high and we knew we needed to get this one right. In this episode we also say goodbye to the man, the myth, the BILL. Goodbye's are never easy, and we cannot say it enough how grateful we are to have had Bill's help these last months. DAYS AT SEA leading to a CRACK IN OUR BOAT | 81 | Beau and Brandy Sailing This is a 2 Part Vlog recounting our sail from Puerto Rico to Grenada. We wanted to show you the beginning of the sail up to the crack and then we have a full video of our mayday and rescue here: https://youtu.be/e6YCq4cz06Y We're ready to leave Puerto Rico! Almost. We've got our new sail but we still have to do a little prep work before we can head south to Grenada in order to avoid hurricane season. We pull out of out of the anchorage by Marina Pescedaria, and head a little south for clearer water to clean the hull, because basically we are growing a coral reef from sitting in the bay for 8 weeks. Brandy shows you our favorite meals to prep for long crossings. This sail will be our longest yet. 474 NM journey South to our ultimate destination, Grenada. If we average 6 knots (wouldn't that be nice!) we should get to our hurricane hole in 4 days. We set off sail and show how we survive day to day while away at sea for almost a week. After sailing for 5 days, perfect wind and waves, allowing us to balance our boat most of the sail… we come across a HUGE problem. We find a crack in the bow. And we are taking on water. big love, beau, brandy, and our salty dog, oona Become a part of our PATREON crew and get: -captain's log of our sails -real time updates -access to Patron only live streams -exclusive access to extended videos (inc bloopers) https://www.patreon.com/beauandbrandy -OR- Send us a one time donation via PayPal to help with our video production! paypal.me/sailingsaoirse For more travel updates 📸 follow our instagram @beauandbrandy _________________________________________ our camera gear*: main camera: https://amzn.to/2lm2bSY action camera: https://amzn.to/2JMXRoa backup camera: https://amzn.to/2l8e3ry solar setup*: controller: https://amzn.to/2lm7hP7 panels: https://amzn.to/2jUoONN ______________________________________ music licensed from epidemic sound: Just Wanna Run - Blanches 40 Love - Ooyy Aemular - Valante Just Before Dawn - Martin Carlberg Them Highs And Lows - Bird Of Figment For the Love of the Ocean - Martin Hall _____________________________________ *This channel is a participant in the Amazon Affiliate Program.
