In 2008, a farm boy from Indiana named Alex Rust was working at The Chicago Board of Trade. He found success, but not happiness. This week, American Sailor co-host Whitney Kent sits down with US Sailing colleague and friend Betsy Allison. Betsy has worked at US Sailing for nearly two decades, currently leading the Adult Sailing department. She is a five time Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year winner and has dominated an array of different boat classes throughout her professional career. Betsy coached the most successful Paralympic sailing team of all time. In an ironic turn of events for the Hall of Fame racer, Betsy became a para athlete in 2022 after a battle with cancer. Shortly after her recovery, she was standing on top of the podium in the Netherlands at the 2023 Sailing World Championships with a gold medal around her neck.
