The Ocean Race Atlantic has started with six IMOCA teams, each with two male, two female and one OBR (On Board Reporter) crewing. The fleet departed on Tuesday 1st September, but had to travel 150 miles offshore at a slow speed through a marine mammal zone, to have the real race starat on Wednesday 2nd September. Jack Yeager bought a million-dollar-plus sailboat before he knew how to sail—and then learned by taking her across oceans. After selling the software company he had spent eight years building, Jack chose adventure over the sensible next step. His first boat was Phase 8, a 62-foot Beneteau Oceanis Yacht.
