November 21-23, 2020 In this episode, we check out Gijón and the most popular beach in the area, both for dogs and for surfers. The boys tried out their surfing skills on a fin-less board and we lose Aksel in the water. When we arrived in Spain, we felt like we were finally back on track in our sailing plans. We were in “the south”, as we Norwegians so lovingly have labled any country from Spain and southward in Europe – basically anywhere where one could depend on a warm climate for a vacation tan…And, there were palm trees everywhere! A definite sign of the warmer latitudes we were soo looking forward to! I, Liv, really enjoyed the charming old city with it's cobblestone streets and beautiful architecture. We definitely noticed the first signs of Christmas decoration and couldn’t believe it had already gotten that late in the year! But, we had arrived “the south”, so we were ok with it now. 😊 The next day, the boys wanted to try out the boogie-board at the beach we visited - one of the most well-known beaches in the area - Playa de San Lorenzo…a hotspot for surfers – and our 4-legged furry friends. We brought our boogie board, but it had no FIN, so it was very difficult to steer & get control of it, but that doesn’t stop our boys… As WE were being mesmerized by the active dogs, Aksel seemed to have drifted off far away from us! Now, my Mommy-heart was pumping hard and I commanded Eivind to jump out in the water to find him! In this episode we leave the beautiful anchorage at Lilla Nassa—but the calm doesn’t last long. As we make our way through the outer Stockholm archipelago, the sky darkens and we end up sailing straight into a thunderstorm in Stora Nassa. After riding out the storm, the reward is worth it. We explore the incredible maze of rocks and islands by dinghy, discovering some of the wildest landscapes in the archipelago. From there we head to the legendary sailing hotspot Sandhamn, the party capital of the Baltic. On the way back toward home we stop at Bullandö to try to fix our radar, before finishing the trip with some diving around Stora Sandön.
