This week we look at having a very effective and high volume water extraction tool on your boat. You can pick one up for an inexpensive amount of money and they move a lot of water fairly quick (about 17 gallons per minute). It may exhaust you, but it will move the water in an emergency. There is that old saying, there is no better bilge pump than a scared sailor with a bucket. Not true, this is pretty darn effective as well and portable when needed. Links to buy new pumps here, but you can also find them at local swap meets near local boating hot beds. Just pop into a large marina and ask if they do boater swap meets. Chances are there are a couple per year in your area. Think of it like a large garage sale of just boat stuff. Time for some offshore diving - 12-14 miles off the coast of Panama City Beach, Florida - to Stage 1 Naval Platform and Hathaway Bridge Span 8! Both dives go to about 105 feet to the bottom and are heavy with fish! The visibility was about 40 feet and the water was warm! Thanks, Panama City Diving!

During our visit to Crete, we saw so much activity in the olive harvesting process. It turns out that the season for picking olives runs from November to February. Crete plays a crucial role in Greek olive oil production: approximately 200,000 tons of olive oil are produced annually on the island, out of a total of 430,000 tons in all of Greece! We visited on oil factory and filmed the entire process: from picking the olives, collecting them in nets, transporting in burlap sacks, ready for the ride to the local live press, within 24 hours after picking! At the local olive press, the olives are cleaned of twigs and leaves, washed and ground into a homogeneous brown paste. This paste undergoes centrifugation, till it is pure extra virgin olive oil. The oil is then stored in 1,000-liter tanks and then bottled in tins to protect it from light. The oil is then distributed to both local and international markets, allowing consumers worldwide to enjoy high-quality Cretan olive oil!

Dazcat 1150 Bare Necessities and 1195 Sueños take us with them on their epic race from Falmouth UK to Ponte Delgado, Azores. It's the 2023 AZAB and initially five multihulls had been due to race, but in the end only the two Dazcats crossed the start line. Both Dazcats are racing 2-up. Bruce and Alison on board Bare Necessities and Rupert and Alan on Sueños are informative, funny, and at times heart wrenchingly honest as they grapple with the unforgiving elements, then sharing their delight at the beautiful scenery and wildlife...Life as it is on a Dazcat, right out there in the deep blue openness... Sueños is racing with their washing machine installed, while Bare Necessities is, well, bare. Somewhat unbelievably after all that distance and routing decisions (quite apart from the preceding 1200 miles, BN rounded the island to the finish to the south while Sueños went west), Sueños finished just about 5 hours behind Bare Necessities on elapsed time and an astounding 7 minutes only on corrected! Well, that was leg 1. Leg 2 coming up soon.... With very many thanks to both boats and their teams for taking the time to film and share this epic sail. Thanks also The Royal Cornwall Yacht Club who organised the race, and for re-admitting multihulls. Music with thanks to @Musicforsport, a local Cornish business.
