Paul Meilhat’s Biotherm has won the fifth and final offshore stage of The Ocean Race Europe 2025, crossing the line in Boka Bay on Sunday night to seal overall victory in the five-week, 4,500-mile race around Europe. Completing the 1,600-mile passage from Genoa in just over seven days. It marks their fourth leg victory of the race, adding to their points at the scoring gates, and confirming their place as 2025 champions. The final stage saw a bit of everything, with light winds at the start, before being hammered by squalls, torrential rain and thunderstorms across the central Mediterranean, with boat speeds varying between nothing and 30-plus knots. Team Holcim-PRB staged a remarkable comeback after falling more than 100 miles behind the leading four boats when they were caught the wrong side of a thunderstorm, but a transition zone to the south of Sicily put them back in the mix and they took every opportunity after that to finish the leg in second. Two hours later Boris Herrmann’s Team Malizia crossed the line in third place, with Allagrande Mapei Racing fourth, just ahead of Team Paprec Arkéa. The results leave Paprec Arkéa and Holcim - PRB locked in a fight for second overall, separated by just half a point with only Saturday’s coastal race in Montenegro left to decide the final podium. Things are nearly as tight in the battle for fourth, with Allagrande Mapei just a single point ahead of Team Malizia. Separado, morando sozinho num pequeno barraco, com os filhos morando muito distante (dois no Canadá e a caçula em Paraty) já estava aceitando a vida sedentária. Fazia minhas cainhadas diárias e dançava eventualmente. O restante do tempo era ocupado com leitura, rede social e televisão. Em 2022 fui visitar seus filhos no Canadá e meu filho mais velho tinha comprado um pequeno veleiro para navegar no lago de Montreal. Então, num passeio nessa pequena embarcação, meu filho iniciou um diálogo mais ou menos assim: - Velho! Você já foi um grande aventureiro por que não faz mais uma aventura? - Que aventura, cara! – respondi. - Vir de Veleiro do Brasil até o Canadá. Você precisa sair de casa. Precisa de objetivos de vida. - Você está louco? Nunca naveguei e não tenho dinheiro para comprar um veleiro! – retruquei. - Você não tem uma Previdência Privada? - Sim. Tenho. Mas ela é para quando eu ficar velho. É para minha saúde – respondi. - Mas você já não está velho? (emitiu uma sonora gargalhada). Então você retira esse dinheiro e compra um veleiro. Comece a estudar, assistir vídeos e ler livros. Depois você vende o veleiro e repõe a grana. A sugestão do filho foi como um trauma mental para seu velho pai. A partir desse dia aprender sobre velas tornou-se minha obsessão. Tudo na na minha vida foi relacionado à navegação. Comecei a devorar livros e assistir todo tipo de vídeo no YouTube. No primeiro semestre de 2023 tirei a habilitação da Marinha para navegar em lagos (pré-requisito para as demais). No segundo semestre consegui a carteira de Mestre Amador e, finalmente, em abril de 2024, conseguiu a mais temida e difícil prova aplicada pela Marinha do Brasil: Capitão Amador. O material de estudo para essa prova foi enorme. Vários livros, apostilas, curso grátis no YouTube e sites pagos. Havia dias que o velho pensava que seria impossível passar na prova. Coisas estudadas era rapidamente esquecida pela memória sexagenária. A grana para compra do Veleiro estava resguardada. Era só esperar o momento oportuno. Entretanto, restava-me, equacionar os custos da viagem com sua pequena aposentadoria. A conclusão foi que a grana seria insuficiente, principalmente quando as despesas fossem em outra moeda. Para piorar, descobriu que chegando ao Canadá, seria muito difícil voltar no mesmo caminho, tendo em vista que existe uma corrente marítima contrária. O caminho de volta mais fácil teria que ser pela Europa e África. Ou seja, gastar em euros. O visto para entrada em cada ilha ou país corresponderá a um quarto da minha renda, sem contar comida, óleo diesel e manutenção no veleiro tudo em dólar ou Euro. Apesar dos estudos orçamentários indicar a inviabilidade do projeto, no dia 14/10/24 mudei para um veleiro adquirido na cidade de Salvador. O planejamento da viagem estima dois anos de vida ao mar, cujo planejamento pode ser verificado nos dois primeiros vídeos do canal “Veio Doido no Mar” no YouTube. Pretendo navegar pela costa brasileira, passar pelas Ilhas do Caribe, passar pelo Canadá, Europa e África. Em torno de 18 meses viajando.

Un mouillage réputé pour être bondé… presque vide 😳 Et très vite, on comprend pourquoi il attire autant de navigateurs. Alors, est-ce vraiment le paradis pour les voileux ? 👉 Tout dépend finalement de ce que l’on recherche… On va en profiter… mais aussi réparer ! ⚓ Bienvenue dans la vraie vie en voilier, entre petites galères et moments incroyables. On est à Musket Cove, à Malolo Island dans les îles Mamanuca à Fidji… et surprise : à peine une quinzaine de bateaux dans ce mouillage immense. Un de ces endroits où les bateaux s’entassent, un peu comme Taïna à Tahiti, Taiohae aux Marquises ou Sainte-Anne en Martinique… La saison cyclonique a commencé 🌪️ et on profite de cet endroit incroyable… presque pour nous. Mais derrière le décor de carte postale, il y a la réalité du bateau ⚙️ Pomper l’eau dans les fonds de cale… encore et encore. Une petite entrée d’eau au niveau de la bague du safran — rien d’alarmant, mais suffisant pour nous rappeler qu’il faudra s’en occuper quand le bateau sera à sec. Et puis il y a… les WC 😬 Sujet universel, inévitable 😂 Tom démonte tout, remplace presque tout… sauf LA pièce qui fuit 💦 Résultat : on ferme le passe-coque et on utilise les autres WC. Heureusement qu’on en a deux… même si ça veut aussi dire deux fois plus de problèmes 😅 Et pour la petite anecdote… je suis tombée dans le trou 😂 (pas celui des WC… celui des fonds de cale) On met ensuite le cap sur Mana Island, en passant une passe étroite avec les coraux juste sous la quille… impressionnant ! Et puis le vrai objectif : le snorkeling 🤿 Une vie marine incroyable, des paysages irréels… Depuis les Tonga, je traîne une douleur entre les côtes. Je sais que je devrais faire une pause… Mais ici, impossible de résister. Alors je replonge. Encore. Et encore. À observer, filmer, attendre le bon moment… J'ai passé des heures dans l'eau ! Parce que c’est ça, au fond, la vie en voilier : 👉 des petits problèmes du quotidien… et juste à côté, des moments d’une beauté incroyable. After that, it’s time to switch gears. A quick sandwich at the boat park to recharge, then straight into prep mode, rigging, tuning, and getting everything dialed in. Out on the water, things get serious. Intense training sessions focused on testing new equipment and sharpening boat handling skills as they prepare for the upcoming racing.
