We didn’t come here to sightsee. After weeks tied to the dock in Wrangell, we left to reset, earn, and put our sailboat back to work by heading out to Port Protection, Alaska. Port Protection is known to many because of the reality TV series filmed here, but for us it’s a remote community where self-reliance still matters and opportunity still exists if you’re willing to move your life to meet it. Our sailboat isn’t just how we travel - it’s how we find work, reach people, and make this life possible year-round. This channel documents self-reliance aboard a sailboat in Alaska, lived day by day and season by season. Memberships: A few of you have asked for a way to support what we’re doing and to spend more time in longer Wheelhouse talks and on-the-go updates. Because of that, we opened YouTube memberships. It gives us a place to share members-only lives, more candid updates, and the in-between moments that don’t always fit the main channel. Completely optional - we’re grateful you're here either way. #PortProtection #AlaskaLife #SailboatLife #SelfReliance #Liveaboard

Sailing vessel Tapatya This is the story of SV Tapatya, a self-built, Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of our adventures as I live aboard, sail and strive to find out just what such a self-built, low-budget vessel is capable of. These videos take a lot of time and effort to make, in what is already a time-intensive project. Your support in watching, subscribing and sharing these videos is very much appreciated. Sometime between September 21st and 22nd, 1924, the whaleback freighter SS Clifton vanished during a storm on Lake Superior. Not one of the 30 people on board were ever found. While largely forgotten today, the disappearance was one of Lake Huron's most mysterious ghost ships, inspiring stories, legends, and numerous folk songs. After a long holiday break back home in Massachusetts, Steve, Robin, and Akiva make the 1,100-mile journey back north to Arabella and winter life in Newfoundland. With big plans for backcountry skiing and ice climbing along the island’s northwest coast, it’s time to finish some critical prep. This episode covers the build of a second custom sled bag using a newly acquired Sailrite sewing machine—a test run before tackling major canvas projects on Arabella. Steve walks through the design, materials, and sewing techniques that will make hauling winter climbing gear into the mountains faster and easier. With new skis and rare Silvretta bindings dialed in, the crew heads out for a recon mission along the Fox River toward the Lewis Hills. But a sudden storm and strong winds nearly derail the season when one ski goes straight overboard and sinks into the harbor. What follows is an unexpected winter recovery mission, a boat launch in January, and a reminder of how quickly things can go sideways in cold conditions. The episode wraps with a first look at the trail system, wildlife tracks in the snow, and early planning for multi-day backcountry trips—setting the stage for winter adventures to come. In this episode: • Driving back to Newfoundland in winter • DIY sled bag/pulk gear sewing • Sailrite machine setup & techniques • Silvretta ski bindings for ice climbing approaches • Losing (and recovering) a ski overboard • Winter harbor recovery mission • Trail recon toward the Lewis Hills • Preparing for multi-day backcountry travel -------------------------- Episode 375 Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! Inside America's Cup | It Started in Naples: The America's Cup Partnership Begins #AmericasCup #AC38
Welcome to the first episode of the official podcast of the Louis Vuitton 38th America's Cup as we go under the surface of one of the most competitive and secretive sports events in the world, and explain the decisions that separate winning from losing. In this first show our intrepid reporter Niall Myant-Best is dropped into a historic moment at the first meeting of the America's Cup Partnership in Naples, Italy - a seismic change in the governance of the sport. And with only months until the first preliminary regatta, a fierce race has already begun off the water. Is this the end of the America's Cup as we know it? Who are the winners and losers? And if AC38 was sailed tomorrow which teams would have the lead? With exclusive inside access, Niall puts these challenging questions and more to the key figures in this Cup cycle. Guests: Grant Dalton, Ben Ainslie, Ernesto Bertarelli, Stephan Kandler, Bruno Dubois, Max Sirena, Margherita Porro and writer Marcus Wheatley.
