Diese Folge knüpft an das Safety Briefing unter Deck an (Folge 28) – jetzt geht’s nach oben. Clemens und Claus starten mit einem geführten Deckwalk: Wo halte ich mich sicher, wo sind die Picking Points fürs Einpicken, wie bewege ich mich mit gutem Stand – besonders, wenn Hektik ausbricht (Delfine am Bug!)? Grundregeln: langsam gehen, Schwerpunkt immer „ins Boot“, und bitte nicht barfuß – geschlossene Deckschuhe schlagen Freiheitsgefühl.  Anschließend die Seenotsignalmittel: Lagerung oberhalb der Wasserlinie, ernsthafte Einweisung, Handhabung zeigen lassen. Wichtig: Fallschirmraketen statistisch paarweise zünden; Rot = Not, Grün = Entwarnung, Weiß = Aufmerksamkeit – und alles stets weg vom Gesicht halten. Das Alu der Fackeln wird extrem heiß – Training und Videos helfen, Respekt zu entwickeln.  Winschen & Schoten: Sicherheit vor „Gewohnheitsrecht“. Schot nur aus der Faust führen, kleine Finger zur Winch, nie beide Hände um die laufende Schot – sonst klemmen acht Finger statt einem. Drehrichtung ermitteln (ggf. den Pfeil oben beachten oder Winch einmal drehen).  Rettungsmittel am Heck: Wurfleine (werfen üben!), Rettungsring mit Blinklicht und Treibanker, Dan-Buoy/Markierungsboje (Notfallzeichen – nicht für Übungen), sowie Jonbuoy als Ein-Mann-Bergungshilfe. Dazu die Rettungsinsel für die Crew: „Step up“ – so spät wie möglich vom Boot in die Insel übersteigen; Reihenfolge, Painter-Line, was mitnehmen (Grab-Bag: Medikamente, Wasser, Signalmittel, SOLAS-Card).  Notpinne & Steuern in der Havarie: Position der Notpinne zeigen, Montage erklären (ggf. Griff nach achtern), Kräfte beachten und mit Taljen/Leinen über die Winchen „steuern“ (Backbord fieren, Steuerbord dicht – oder umgekehrt). Wer nur mit Rad fährt, unterschätzt Ruderdruck; Autopilot kaschiert Probleme.  Gefahrenzonen klar ansprechen: Patenthals und Großschot/Traveler im Cockpit sind Unfallschwerpunkte – Kopf runter bei „Baum!“, Wege an Deck definieren (vor den Wanten bleiben) und POB-Manöver demonstrieren, sobald es sicher geht. In this episode we get splashed but the Sardinian weather is holding us back, then we get reunited with our trusty buddy boat Tintomara and finally we find a weather window to continue our journey north along the the Sardinian coast. But while we were waiting for the wind to calm down we found ways to entertain ourselves. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our sailboat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is sail the Mediterrainean Sea and really enjoy life. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager. Mana and I are invited to Jean Philippe's place where he offers fresh wild mangrove oysters charbroiled and laid out on his oyster bar. We shuck and suck the delicacies with a drop of lemon from trees in his yard. The huge sound system is playing warm African grooves from local artist Charlemagne who's with us sipping on palm wine. The vibe is delicious. We are anchored at Campment Villageois, a safe and calm spot. But we must sail back up river to take Mana back home. I pay homage to Mana with a video montage and prepare for mu next part of my journey. This is sailing Africa. Separado, morando sozinho num pequeno barraco, com os filhos morando muito distante (dois no Canadá e a caçula em Paraty) já estava aceitando a vida sedentária. Fazia minhas cainhadas diárias e dançava eventualmente. O restante do tempo era ocupado com leitura, rede social e televisão. Em 2022 fui visitar seus filhos no Canadá e meu filho mais velho tinha comprado um pequeno veleiro para navegar no lago de Montreal. Então, num passeio nessa pequena embarcação, meu filho iniciou um diálogo mais ou menos assim: - Velho! Você já foi um grande aventureiro por que não faz mais uma aventura? - Que aventura, cara! – respondi. - Vir de Veleiro do Brasil até o Canadá. Você precisa sair de casa. Precisa de objetivos de vida. - Você está louco? Nunca naveguei e não tenho dinheiro para comprar um veleiro! – retruquei. - Você não tem uma Previdência Privada? - Sim. Tenho. Mas ela é para quando eu ficar velho. É para minha saúde – respondi. - Mas você já não está velho? (emitiu uma sonora gargalhada). Então você retira esse dinheiro e compra um veleiro. Comece a estudar, assistir vídeos e ler livros. Depois você vende o veleiro e repõe a grana. A sugestão do filho foi como um trauma mental para seu velho pai. A partir desse dia aprender sobre velas tornou-se minha obsessão. Tudo na na minha vida foi relacionado à navegação. Comecei a devorar livros e assistir todo tipo de vídeo no YouTube. No primeiro semestre de 2023 tirei a habilitação da Marinha para navegar em lagos (pré-requisito para as demais). No segundo semestre consegui a carteira de Mestre Amador e, finalmente, em abril de 2024, conseguiu a mais temida e difícil prova aplicada pela Marinha do Brasil: Capitão Amador. O material de estudo para essa prova foi enorme. Vários livros, apostilas, curso grátis no YouTube e sites pagos. Havia dias que o velho pensava que seria impossível passar na prova. Coisas estudadas era rapidamente esquecida pela memória sexagenária. A grana para compra do Veleiro estava resguardada. Era só esperar o momento oportuno. Entretanto, restavam, ainda duas questões muito importantes: arrumar uma companheira de viagem e equacionar os custos da viagem com sua pequena aposentadoria. A conclusão foi que a grana seria insuficiente, principalmente quando as despesas fossem em outra moeda. Para piorar, descobriu que chegando ao Canadá, seria muito difícil voltar no mesmo caminho, tendo em vista que existe uma corrente marítima contrária. O caminho de volta mais fácil teria que ser pela Europa e África. Ou seja, gastar em euros. O visto para entrada em cada ilha ou país corresponderá a um quarto da minha renda, sem contar comida, óleo diesel e manutenção no veleiro tudo em dólar ou Euro. Apesar dos estudos orçamentários indicar a inviabilidade do projeto, no dia 14/10/24 mudei para um veleiro adquirido na cidade de Salvador. O planejamento da viagem estima dois anos de vida ao mar, cujo planejamento pode ser verificado nos dois primeiros vídeos do canal “Veio Doido no Mar” no YouTube. Pretendo navegar pela costa brasileira, passar pelas Ilhas do Caribe, passar pelo Canadá, Europa e África. Em torno de 18 meses viajando.

Pylos ist eine malerische Küstenstadt im Südwesten des Peloponnes. Bereits in der Antike war Pylos ein bedeutender Ort: In der mykenischen Zeit diente die Region als Sitz des sagenumwobenen Königs Nestor. Homer erzählte von ihm, als er neunzig Schiffe nach Troja führte. Er vereinigt Altersweisheit, Beredsamkeit, Redlichkeit und heitere Lebenskunst. So brachte der trinkfreudige Mann seinen eigenen Becher, den Nestorbecher, nach Troja. Nestor gilt heute noch als Ehrenbezeichnung in wissenschaftlichen Versammlungen, Kultur, oder Festschriften und ist wird als eine Würdigung des Altmeisters verstanden. Die strategische Lage von Pylos führte dazu, dass die Stadt im Laufe der Jahrhunderte immer wieder in kriegerische Auseinandersetzungen verwickelt war. Besonders bekannt ist die Seeschlacht von Navarino im Jahr 1827. Damals lag die türkisch-ägyptische Flotte mit 89 Schiffen hier vor Anker und wurde von den verbündeten Seestreitkräften Grossbritaniens, Frankreichs und Russlands überrascht. In dem auf engstem Raum stattfindendem Gefecht wurde ein Grossteil der türkisch-ägyptischen Flotte versenkt und die Seeherrschaft der Türken beendet. Für die Griechen wurde der Grundstein zur Unabhängigkeit gelegt.

In this episode of Sailing Mirage, I continue exploring the incredible islands of the Bahamas. This time I make a 70 nautical mile solo passage from Rum Cay to Cat Island. As usual, I’m sailing alone aboard Mirage, so the day starts early to catch the tide and strong morning breeze. Midway through the voyage, after clearing Conception Island, the ocean changes character. Long rolling Atlantic swells begin to build — tall enough that at one point a massive cruise ship completely disappears behind the waves, which was pretty funny to watch. Aside from the big ocean swell, the passage turns into a fast and smooth sail. Another beautiful day on the water, surrounded by the deep blues and turquoise waters that make the Bahamas so special.
