Pershing yachts have always been very close to my heart; not just for their sleek and sporty design but also for the part they played in my formative years in the yachting industry. The announcement that they have launched their largest ever vessel, the Pershing 140’, really grabbed the attention of the yachting world and they have not failed to impress. Not only is this a very beautiful yacht, but it also has some clever design features that shall bring added pleasure to the owner’s experience on board.

We've had a lot of you guys requesting more affordable project boat tours, and this one definitely qualifies. The Bayfield 36 is a great boat model for a couple to own, refit, and cruise aboard. It's a cutter-rigged, full-keeled, go-anywhere bluewater cruiser at a realistic price point, and it has a bath tub! We love the design, but our two biggest complaints are engine access and the location of the chart table. The winds died shortly after race started, it was called off and Karen was pissed. Steve just wanted another glass of wine. We spent the rest of the day motoring and cooking back at the slip. The next day the winds were better and we had a great sail. We also repaired our Ritchie SP-5C compass which had a leak in the diaphragm. It seems to be holding fluid now. Upgrading from a traditional stuffing box, or shaft seal, to a more modern dripless shaft seal will keep the bilge of your boat dry and odor-free. You'll start by removing the coupling from the shaft from the transmission, then remove the old stuffing box. You'll clean up the shaft, install the new rotor and bellows, reattach the shaft to the transmission, and reinstall the ground wire. Then you'll lock the rotor onto the shaft using set screws. It’s a fairly complicated DIY project, but if you have a day or two to spare it could be a worthwhile investment. Faial is really starting to stand up to the beauty we experienced in Flores! In this episode we learn a bit about how the Azores were formed from volcanic activity and then set off to climb the highest peak in all of portugal! The conditions couldn't have been better with clear skies and a full moon! While on top we capture some of the most incredible time lapses we've seen. We set sail for Hurricane Sound in Penobscot Bay, where we discover a pristine nature preserve and dinghy through a tidal reversing waterfall! Eager to explore we depart Blubber Island and set sail for Hurricane Sound on the west coast of Vinalhaven Island. We make a stop at Hurricane Island to explore the abandoned granite quarries that supplied this beautiful stone used to construct the Brooklyn Bridge and Washington Monument. We anchor near a place called The Basin that has huge tides and a restricted inlet to a large bay inside the island where the escaping water creates a reversing waterfall caused by way too much water trying to escape. Colin finally gives his opinion on the Lagoon 450 design flaw involving the weak bulkhead. Too many Lagoon 450's have contacted him with exactly the same failure, for him to rule out there being a design flaw anymore, as the count is over 20 boats, and counting. Boats that have never been through a hurricane, never run aground, never had their rigs over tensioned, are falling victim to the failure, which costs tens of thousands of dollars to repair, so it must be time for Lagoon to step up to the plate and do something about this now... Keep in mind we bought her at auction without ever meeting the owner! The owner was sailing along and ran aground - hard. Hard enough that the keel pivoted and pushed the aft end up into the hull. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made.
