Oltre a tutte le cose e posizioni in barca anche tutte le "corde" prendono nomi differenti: Cime, drizza, scotta, gomene,... sagola poi dritta, babordo, tambuccio... tangone Ma parliamo delle "corde". I principali nomi con cui si chiamano le "corde" che trovi nelle barche. Si devono differenziare i nomi in base alle funzioni che hanno per evitare di gestire una "corda" che non ha la funzione che si vuole ottenere. Le Gomene e le cime, sono le "corde" utilizzate per l'ormeggio. La loro differenza è nel loro diametro. Circa 15mm o più sono le gomene e le più piccole sono le cime. Con le scotte si vanno a regolare gli angoli delle vele in base alla manovra, in pratica si cazzano (tirano) o si lascano (allentano) tramite le scotte. La drizza è la "corda" che solleva le vele, per ricordarlo io da ragazzino pensavo alla vela che si raddrizza. La sagola è una "corda" di piccolo diametro che non ha una funzione specifica. In verità una corda esiste in barca ed è l'unica. Today we are touring one of the larger Princess yacht models. This is a Princess Y85. This is probably the largest yacht you could owner operate if you had enough experience. It also works well with a small crew. The galley and helm are both versatile in that they can be fully opened or enclosed depending on who is working in the spaces. All four cabins are large and comfortable and Princess kept their high end finishes in every single area. I had limited time on board and there was some work being done up on the bow so I was not able to capture that area. Princess makes a quality yacht and it's easy to see why! Every year, History Fort Lauderdale (formerly the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society) honors individuals and companies making an impact on the city’s growth. This year, it’s celebrated the well-known Denison family, who received the History Makers Pioneer Family Award for being Broward County yachting-industry forerunners. Bob Denison, president of Denison Yachting, accepted the History Makers award for the family. The Denison family got their start in the yachting business after Frank and Gertrude Denison (pictured, Bob Denison’s grandparents) bought a boatyard in the city during their honeymoon in 1948. During its history, the shipyard, Broward Marine, became the county’s largest employer and the state’s largest defense contractor. Indeed, it initially built minesweepers. It went on to construct motor yachts in the 1950s and pioneered the country kitchen. The Denison’s company, Broward Marine, and its workforce were largely responsible for much of the marine industry that developed over the course of their 50 years of yacht construction that started on the south fork of the New River in Fort Lauderdale. The design brief included the walnut flooring and wenge walls which are usually reserved for the larger Sunseeker yachts. The combination of dark wood paneling and lighter interior provides for a very inviting interior that feels luxurious and relaxing at the same time. There are numerous seating and layout possibilities on the main deck, all of them centered around an elegant dining table amidships, an attractive and spacious galley on the port side – complete with a curved bar facing into the wheelhouse – and the irresistible option of a spectacular balcony that unfolds from the starboard gunwale. There is also a choice of one or two routes down to the lower deck, which somewhat counter-intuitively means the cabins can be bigger – there being no need for a central corridor.
