This is a video showing how to remove the wooden bungs or plugs found in the hardwood trim on a boat. We are remodeling the owners stateroom in our sailboat and thought it would be helpful for others to see how to go about doing it. First you use a center punch to create a divet in the center of each bung to help align the drill bit in the next step. Drill a hole with a bit about 2/3'rds the diameter of the plus you are removing. When you drill into the center of the bung, the drill bit will go through the bung, hit the screw head below it and pop the bung out. (in most cases, the video shows what to do when they are stuck and don't come out). We then cut new plugs with a "plug cutter bit" on a drill and after replacing the trim on the boat, we plug the holes, sand and varnish them.
