Drachenbootrennen Kiel, 8. Funcup Rennen. Dokumentation der Teilnahme des Büro S.M.I.L.E. am 07. September 2013. Die Teilnahme am Drachenbootrennen in Kiel, dem 8. Funcup Rennen des ETV, war die zweite für die S.M.I.L.E.ING Dragons. Trotz einiger Wolkenfelder war das Wetter sehr schön. Bei schwachen südlichen Winden und Lufttemperaturen von 22 Grad Celsius (Wassertemperatur etwa 18 Grad) war der Tag für die Teilnehmer ein schönes Erlebnis. Zu einer Kenterung oder einem "Umfall" wie bei anderen Drachenbootrennen kam es nicht. Bemerkenswert waren die Mannschaften mit zum Teil sehr aufwendigen Kostümen die am Ende den Gewinn für die Kostümwertung dem "Grusel Labyrinth" und den "Froschköniginnen Reloaded" einbrachte. Ein ausfühlicher Film dazu ist S.M.I.L.E. intern vorhanden.

The Berthon apprentices are currently restoring a West Solent One Design (RIPPLE) as an educational project on behalf of Boatyard owner Brian May. The frames are made using laminates of iroko machined to a thickness of 5mm. These are then covered with resorcinol glue on all mating faces and bent around a laminating jig. This is then left for the glue to cure. Once the glue has completely hardened the frame is then removed and machined to the required thickness. The frame will later be tapered and bevelled on its outside face to allow it to correctly fit the shape of the planking. Hobie 16's join the other high speed cats on San Francisco Bay this week for the US Multihull Championship hosted by Sausalito Yacht Club. Variable winds plagued the waters off Angel Island, and the fleet completed just three full races, with Enrique Figueroa and Carla Malatrasi winning them all.
