Ideal condition and a lovely compliment of guests combined for a perfect sunset cruise on Block Island Sound, July 26, 2014
The only days Lucas and Capt. David get off are the days that are no good for sailing and no good for working on the boat. Fortunately, living in Montauk means there are always ways to have fun on the water, even on a rainy, foggy day!
The charter ctamaran Mon Tiki on a reach sustaining at 10-12kts on Block Island Sound near Montauk New York
Sunrise November 20, 2013 Mon Tiki is a day and a half out from New York Harbor and headed towards Norfolk VA. The day before, Tuesday, had been a tough crossing 30 miles out from the mouth of the Delaware Bay, with northwest winds gusting to 30kts+ and short 8-10 foot seas, followed by a night with temperatures into the 30s. This footage was shot Wednesday morning, when the winds had clocked north and slacked to about 20kts -- picnic weather compared to the previous day. Mon Tiki's crew was feeling a little beat up, but Mon Tiki herself wasn't showing any strain. By noon we were sailing under the northern most span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and into the Chesapeake Bay proper. The music is "Seductio ad Absurdum" off of Black Hi-Lighters's second album "Bite the Bullet" and featuring my friend James Poulos on vocals. I choose this music because loving the sea is a bit like loving a beautiful but temperamental and indifferent woman. Maybe you'd be better off loving someone else, but you don't choose love, love chooses you.
