Safran, le nouvel IMOCA 60 pieds de Morgan Lagravière, le successeur de Marc Guillemot, a été mis à l’eau pour la première fois, jeudi à Lorient. Après un an de construction à Port-La-Forêt puis Lorient, le plan VPLP-Guillaume Verdier, premier de la toute nouvelle génération de 60 pieds conçus pour le Vendée Globe 2016, a été dévoilé au public. Depuis 2013, le Safran Sailing Team et les architectes Guillaume Verdier et Vincent Lauriot-Prévost, ont planché sur le projet d’un bateau novateur, répondant à la nouvelle jauge Imoca, avec des performances maximales. Safran affiche ainsi une carène puissante dotée de foils (plan porteur permettant de soulager la coque aux allures portantes et donc de gagner en vitesse), d’un mât aile pivotant très reculé, d’un cockpit au centre de gravité abaissé et d’un volume de coque avant prononcé. La mise à l’eau de Safran, qui garde le numéro 25, magnifique luge de 18,28 m de long et de 5,85 m de large, fut un moment intense pour toute l’équipe de CDK et du Safran Sailing Team.

In 2009, New Zealander Roy Kum joined schooner Mariette as a temporary worker after working previously on schooners Spirit of New Zealand and R. Tucker Thompson. Now he is first mate onboard under Captain Charlie Wroe, embracing the job's changeability day to day and keeping traditional techniques alive. Mariette, the steel riveted schooner was drawn by the renowned design Nathanael Greene Herreshoff and officially launched in 1915 in Bristol Rhode Island. The 138ft gaff rigged schooner was born into a archive which had countless records for defending the America's Cup. Classic Yacht TV interviewed Roy at the Westward Cup 2012 about why sailing a schooner is worlds apart from sailing other classic yachts. Mariette's Queen and Gollywobbler sails are amongst the 28 sails stowed away onboard - ready for the crew to decipher which combination will suit the day's racing or sailing to generate maximum power, of which 16 knots was achieved in the 2010 Pendennis Cup! The Westward Cup was initiated to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the launch of the schooner Westward in 1910, by the owner of the Westward replica 'Eleonora' who features in this film. The Royal Yacht Squadron (RYS), the Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) and the New York Yacht Club (NYYC) run the biennial regatta in Cowes, Isle of Wight. The Westward Cup's second event this year saw typical low pressure dominating the week, as have most major regattas in the UK. The overall results closed with Mariquita in third place, Eleonora in second place, Mariette, helmed by her wonderful owner alongside Captain Charlie Wroe, picked up the 2012 Westward Cup. #SchoonerSailing #Herreshoff

This clip was used to promote the ship in America in February 2015. The first part is mainly from the summer of 2013 training along the Norwegian coast. The second part shows the ship in 2014, sailing at speeds up to 14 knots on her way back from Scotland over the North Sea.

Light weather ensured that most started a little late at Middle Harbour Yacht Club for the beginning of the 10th anniversary Sydney Harbour Regatta being held this weekend, but once underway, all 180 boat crews had a wonderful autumn sail to start the weekend. NSW Championships. The Yngling, VX-One, J70 and Cavalier 28 classes elected to hold their respective NSW Championship at the Sydney Harbour Regatta. Perhaps the prettiest show stoppers at the Regatta, the Historical 18’s sailed a full Harbour course in their preferred conditions. Top Weight had the goods at the end of the day, David Swales overcoming challenges from second placed Tangalooma (Peter Legrove) and third placed Scot (James) Watt. WE DID IT!! World's First... a "MARINER" Waterproof Drone filming in 4K with a GoPro Hero4 stabilized on a FULLY WATERPROOF GIMBAL, with Waterproof FPV live-video transmission to the ground station, even from under water!
