Bleibt gesund! I got a new job the 24. February 2020 and want to buy a bigger boat, thinking about the Bavaria 40 ocean from 2002 or a newer Bavaria 42 vision or Bavaria 46 vision. The ocean series with center cockpit is a safe boat type but the cockpit is also pretty small compared to the normal two wheel cockpit layout. Unfortunately I lost my job the 13. March 2020 due to the Corona epidemic.

We got the sailing- skills on our friends yacht 'Shalom' when we joined them on a trip from the Netherlands to Spain. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtDOpi7ydzdcRK1H7fEiQFQ . In Spain we decided to go with our own boat, and in no time we were the happy owners of 'Messenger'. A how to on adjusting your rudder. If your rudder lines are too tight the handle will be hard to move and cause fatigue over time in your hand. Too loose and you'll have slop or play in the system. Adjust too far to one side and you will not be able to turn as sharp to the other side. This video shows three of our popular kayak models and showcases how each system work, things to look for and how to make adjustments.

We didn't plan it, but we ended up getting beginner horseback riding lessons while we were boondocking in Texas. RV living can be a bit surprising, I suppose. Here's how it happened... We found a great spot for boondocking the RV in Texas and the owner also has horses. We didn't ask to ride the horses - but Molly has a way about her that tends to attract gifts and such. The owner saw Molly petting the horses through the fence and asked if she had ever ridden horses before. She hasn't. None of us have ridden horses before. When the owner offered to give us some beginner horseback riding lessons, we had to take them up on the offer! Sharla, James, & Nolan were gracious hosts. We had a great time getting to know their horse, Roni - who took very good care of us and was super gentle. I certainly had some nerves as I climbed onto the back of a 1000lb animal for the first time, but it ended up being one of the coolest experiences I've ever had. Now, I'm anxious for another opportunity to ride horses again! Lastly, we wrap up this video by licking a building constructed of rock salt. Stick around and observe Tambi pressing her bare tongue against a salty protuberance. It's really something. Enjoy! ~ Ben, Tambi, & Molly | L/V BURT | "SAILBOATSTORY" [ SUPPORT THE CHANNEL ] https://patreon.com/sailboatstory | Join the crew and help keep the cameras rolling! https://paypal.me/sailboatstory | Make a donation and help upgrade our camera gear! Two broken side shrouds just before leaving the Canaries. What now? Join us on our most exciting journey so far so see how we solved our rigging problems and then jump on board – over the far Atlantic Ocean from La Palma to Barbados. 2700 nautical miles, 3 weeks just Nora, Ilja and me and our manpower and knowledge to repair things on our own, no artificial lights, just the blue ocean and endless sky. And some pretty ocean creatures that served our joy in different ways. A rollercoaster ride that ended with the captain being knocked out badly! Enjoy.

December 12th, 2019 "In Contact with the Enemy: The Nazi Spy and U.S. Navy Lieutenant John F. Kennedy" A presentation by David Kohnen, Ph.D. Having secured a reserve commission in the U.S. Navy, Lieutenant John F. Kennedy served as the aide to the Director of Naval Intelligence at the Navy Department in Washington, D.C. In this role, he received unique access to high grade intelligence sources as American naval forces waged a quasi-war in the Atlantic during the months preceding the Imperial Japanese attacks in the Pacific. Yet, after the Federal Bureau of Investigation unveiled evidence of a very close relationship with a suspected Nazi spy, Kennedy was hastily assigned to Rhode Island. He volunteered for duty in Motor Torpedo Boats and, as a result, Kennedy won fame as a U.S. Naval hero of the Second World War -- eventually becoming President of the United States. Biography: David Kohnen earned the PhD with the Laughton Professor of Naval History in the War Studies Department at the University of London (King’s College London). He is the author of 21st Century Knox: Influence, Sea Power, and History for the Modern Era (Naval Institute Press, 2016) and Commanders Winn and Knowles: Winning the U-Boat War with Intelligence (Enigma Press, 1999). Looking to the future, Kohnen examines the underlying influence of history upon “sea power” in, Two Kings and a Navy: U.S. Navy Admiral Ernest J. King, the Anglo-American Special Relationship, and the Fifty Years War at Sea, 1901-1946 (under contract, Naval Institute Press).

The record of shipwrecks in Rhode Island begins immediately after the arrival of Europeans in the early 17th century with the grounding of a Dutch trading vessel, and thousands more vessels came to grief in its waters in the following centuries, through bad weather, human error, equipment failure, and military action. Some of these shipwrecks were epic disasters, with many fatalities and the total loss of the vessel; others were relatively minor misfortunes in which the ships were salvageable. Come see the dramatic pictures and hear the fascinating stories of a select sample of shipwrecks! Charlotte Taylor is the author of Images of America: Rhode Island Shipwrecks, published in 2017. She is an archaeologist at the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission, where her job includes maintaining an inventory of the location and condition of the state's shipwrecks (and very occasionally diving on them!).

Narrated sailing footage of the iconic Cherubini 56' schooner, NARWHAL. Her clipper bow with bowsprit, schooner rig, low freeboard and raised bulwarks aft, along with varnished teak cabin trunk sides, are reminiscent of L. Francis Herreshoff’s TICONDEROGA as ably interpreted by John Cherubini. She is a proven performer in near coastal waters, on the racecourse and crossing oceans. Her combination of shoal draft, spirited performance, a well-balanced helm and easy sail handling, along with drop-dead gorgeous lines, make her a true standout.

Introducing the Bruckmann Abaco 47. Modeled on the success of the Abaco 40’s unique performance and seakeeping characteristics, the Abaco 47 offers a larger platform with more accommodation for extended cruising. Designed by Mark Ellis, the Abaco 47 utilizes the same proven hull form used on the Abaco 40. This innovative hull configuration allows the Abaco 47 to plane at low speeds (12 knots), affording a wide cruising speed range as well as extremely fuel-efficient performance. The Abaco 47 is powered by either a single or twin diesel engines. The single engine series utilizes a Caterpillar C18 1136 hp diesel and will cruise in the low to mid 20 knot range with a top speed of approximately 30 knots. The propeller and rudder are protected by a skeg that also provides excellent stability and tracking in a seaway. The twin-engine configuration is powered by twin Caterpillar C8.7 641 hp diesels and will cruise in the mid to high 20 knot range with a top speed of approximately 34 knots. As with the single engine installation, a centerline skeg provides the same directional stability and tracking performance as well as grounding protection. The variable speed bow and stern thrusters provide excellent handling and maneuverability. The Abaco 47 interior features a spacious master cabin forward with island queen berth and en-suite head with separate shower. A guest cabin to starboard is offered with a double berth or twin single berths. The twin configuration provides en-suite access to the second head. The galley, to port, is open to the pilothouse above providing plenty of light and ventilation. The galley features separate refrigerator and freezer, induction cooktop and convection microwave oven. The large pilothouse provides excellent visibility and seating comfort. An ‘L’ shaped settee with dining table converts to a double berth when needed. Opposite the dining table is a smaller settee with a television lift outboard. Forward port and starboard are Stidd helmsman and co-pilot seats. At the aft end of the pilothouse a large sliding door opens to the cockpit, where there is comfortable seating for outdoor dining or lounging.

Losing the ability to steer a sailboat can quickly become a nightmare. We once assisted a sailboat in distress, SV Avatar, mid Pacific to try to fabricate a temporary rudder at sea, and its not something that you want to ever do. Every sailboat needs a good rudder system inspection, before crossing a big ocean, but there are parts of a rudder that are supposed to be hermetically sealed. So Patrick rips apart the rudder on this sailboat, inspects the rudder, and does a partial rudder repair/rudder rebuilt to this old sailboat. Despite our rudder looking fine on the outside, in this episode, Patrick rips open the rudder of our Valiant 40 sailboat, to inspect the condition of the spline to shaft attachments to make sure this rudder will survive another ocean crossing and well beyond. He is happy with what he sees, but he has some welding done between the spline and the rudder shaft, and then builds it back up with polystyrene balls and Cenolite in epoxy. The build up is continued using 1708 cloth and fairing compound. Now, this rudder is stronger and better than when it first left the Valiant factory in 1976. Join Patrick Childress for another great How to, DIY, Sailboat repair video! Patrick loves showing sailors how to fix up an old sailboat, and do sailboat maintenance, and even some sailing tips. He doesn't always make this old sailboat beautiful...but he always makes her seaworthy and dependable, ready to cross many oceans! ▬ FOLLOW ALONG! ▬▬ ✩Instagram: http://www.Instagram.com/svBrickHouse ✩ Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/SYBrickhouse ✩ Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/SVBrickhouse ✩Our blog: :http://www.WhereIsBrickHouse.com ✩Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/PatrickChildress ✩Tshirts and other: https://www.WhereIsBrickHouse.com/store Support us to keep the videos coming: 🍯(Tip Jar) http://whereisbrickhouse.com/tip-jar/ ⛵️ TWO FREE SAILING COURSES: http://whereisbrickhouse.com/sailing-school PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/SVBrickHouse ⏩Start your Amazon shopping here: https://amzn.to/2K9MmuA ✩Tshirts and other: https://www.WhereIsBrickHouse.com/store #sailingAfrica #PatrickChildressSailing #TravelsAnimals

After the shock of the explosion on Nutshell, a wonderful couple, Cassie and Tony, invited us out on their yacht for a day sail in the Whitsundays. It was the tonic that we needed to take stock and enjoy the beauty around us and be thankful that we were both safe. I step onboard Nutshell for the first time since the explosion to see the damage firsthand. Thankfully this was after Magnus had tidied it up so it would be a less harrowing experience. We remove the dodger on Nutshell ready to replace the ‘opaque’ clears with ones that we can actually see through! The emptying of the boat continues. Thanks for watching and thank you all for your wonderful, kind comments. We will rebuild her and we will sail again! Imagine that you live on a sailboat, work on a sailboat, and travel on a sailboat. Then you have a baby.... We were extremely nervous setting out on our first sail with The Nugget. How would she react? Would she like it or would it be a total disaster? Do we need to rethink our lifestyle and future plans? Well there's only one way to find out! With clear skies and what they call "reinforced trades" blowing 25-30 knots we set out straight into it tacking and beating into the swells. It was one hell of a bumpy ride..... Does anyone out there know if babies can get seasick? We heard not until they can walk because their inner ear balance has not developed, but if anyone has any insight on this we would love to know! We put on this basic blacksmithing course in Costa Rica with the help of our friends and in conjunction with El Astillero Verde with the hopes of making a difference in the community down there. It was a very rewarding trip on many different levels. In this video we are wrapping up that trip. The course went over so well and the best part was hearing from everyone that took the course saying that not only did they enjoy it, but that they would be keeping up with it and bringing it back to their communities. This was the whole point of the course in the first place, and we never would have been able to pull it off without the help of our friends. Not only did the course go over well but while we were at the shipyard, our crew was able to tackle a couple different projects, including fixing up the student built boat there. Due to the drying conditions at certain times of the year there, the planking had significantly dried up and the seams had opened up, making it unusable. Kit Macchi and Anne Bryant reefed all the seems, installed splines and then Kit double planked the bottom of the vessel to help with any future issues, while Anne and Andrew Guest (from Restoring Rosalind) caulked the boat back up again. It was a tough problem to solve with the time given, the resources and the rough Costa Rican environment but they did an amazing job. We also got to see a lot of work get done on the building on the Ceiba while we were at the shipyard, which is just an incredible project. Not only is the scale impressive but so is the concept of the work and change she is to bring about once on the water. Getting to see such a massive ship coming together was a real treat and we can't wait to see her on the water. Meanwhile, this trip likely would not have gone the way it did without the all of Steve's hard work. After organizing the majority of this trip, he ended up taking one for the team, staying home to get our new thicknesser up and running for our upcoming planking party. We discussed this long and hard but in the long run, he convinced me that I needed to go to Costa Rica to get footage while he wrenched on the machinery here and got things ready. In the end, we are a team and sometimes we need to divide and conquer. At least he got to get out on a quick climbing trip locally. We hope you enjoy this next installment. Don't worry too much, we are all back and safe from Costa Rica. Self quarantined in Granby, working on Arabella with the crew that managed to get here just as the quarantining came into effect. We're hoping to have her planked by the end of this scare if all goes well! [March 19th, 2020] ---------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built.
