Thanks to some hefty currents pushing us along, we catch the ride of a life, sailing along at 11 knots in glass calm conditions. Leaving the Sound of Jura, we tried to make a pass through some tricky areas at slack tide, only to find out we'd timed ourselves wrong. Luckily the current was behind us and in the end we had a wonderful case of being pushed along like a rocket in just a breath of wind. Our sail leads us to Bangor Marina in Northern Ireland, which we found a beautiful town with great coastal paths for walking. Also wanting to explore Belfast though, we hopped the train into the big city where we spent the day exploring the Titanic Quarter, Botanical Gardens and museum of natural history. Enjoy! We are halfway through our longest, toughest sail from Honduras to Cartagena, Colombia. We end up sailing through rough seas, a few more solid storms, near pirate waters, and experience minor equipment failure due to the constant pounding the sea is dishing out. The near sleepless nights we are experiencing start to wear on us,as well as the boat, but we hold it together and in the end we sail into Cartagena, Colombia as happy as we have ever been on Christmas Day. Coronavirus affected our sailing plans! We decided to leave St Martin before the cruise ships brought the virus to island. We worried that if the pandemic spread quickly and borders began to close, we might not get to Bahamas in time to be able to isolate ourselves near a deserted island. We sailed overnight to south east Puerto Rico where we checked into the Marina Yacht Club at Palmas del Mar. Anyone thinking of retiring to Puerto Rico should check out this large gated community with swimming pools, shopping, yacht club, golf , restaurants, etc. We enjoyed our stay but pushed on to Bahamas. Final sail with Romain before he fly back to France for xmas. On my side I will be working for xmas and NYE I have a crazy charter planned with the wild unicorns of The Buckelust (https://thebucketlust.co.uk/). Fun it was, but also exhausting (I worked hard... and probably party a bit too much, but hey, it was nye!) so I ended up that week pretty wrecked. After a few days of rest I switch my 26ft nutshell for a 70ft catamaran that I deliver to Antigua to start with before doing a one week charter with it. Work work work... I have to sometimes I eventually fly back to SXM to get my baby back and go straight out for a sunset sail with friends. Zotke did break a toe nail on a previous expedition so we kept his feet dry this time and we had him wearing a plastic head collar to prevent him from gnawing on his toe nail so it could grow back. On the 17th of April 2020 we will leave marina Port Ghalib in Egypt, heading south towards Sudan and Djibouti and finally Maldives. We will take it easy, enjoy the beautiful reefs of the red sea and keep an eye on the corona regulations of the ports we pass. Since many countries are closed we don't know where we will be allowed to go on land again, but we can survive 4 month without seeing anybody :) This journey is only a small part of our trip that started 2 years ago. In Spain we decided to go with our own boat, and in no time we were the happy owners of 'Messenger'.
