New Back stay replacement DIY- and how to install a Mechanical End Fitting - a Norseman Fitting, Terminals and Cones ...Patrick Childress Sailing demonstrates how to rig a sailboat DIY- the removal of the backstay, measuring for a new one, and the back stay replacement on your Bluewater sailboat/ He demonstrates step by step how to install a mechanical end fitting, called a Norseman fitting. Norseman fittings help a cruising sailor be completely independent from riggers because you can order a backstay with one swaged end and then make an exact measurement and cut, and then use a mechanical end fitting and how to replace a back stay. The Norseman terminals and cones, or Staylock, are the way to go! Sailboat rigging diy. Removing the backstay and replacing the Back stay does not have to be difficult, but there are a few things to be aware of in the process of replacing the rigging. First, how to climb the mast, to performing a rigging inspection, to how to use a Norseman Terminal and cones, its all covered here in one of the best Sailboat how to Videos. Another epic day out at the Forbidden Island of Ni'ihau with Bubbles Below Scuba Charters. Rare to get out in the winter months, and there were so many whales! Sandbar sharks, Manta Rays, Hawaiian Monk Seals, and super rare fish like the endemic Hawaiian Morwong and Spotted Knifejaws!
RTE, Realtime Embedded, hosted a seminar and webinar in Stockholm, March 7, 2018, with Ekkono's Chief Data Scientist (CDS), Rikard König, as keynote speaker.
Two months to departure! In this episode, I tell about how we went from being full-time employees to quitting our jobs, buying a sailboat and leaving Stockholm, Sweden, to go sail the world. Ryan and I met on Tinder in March 2015, and hit it off immediately. Unfortunately, 3 months later, Ryan sustained a really bad shoulder dislocation subsequent to a goose attack. While staying at home, Ryan killed his time on Bored Panda, and read the story of how a couple our age quit their jobs, bought a boat, and went on to sail the world for 5 years (the couple in question is no other than Matt & Jessica sailing). At that time, we were getting really tired of our uninspiring office jobs, and started to ask us what life would be like if we really did what we loved. We took a 2 weeks sailing course in Gibraltar in January 2016. We bought our boat, a Beneteau Oceanis 40 from 2007 with a two cabins layout in March 2016. The learning curve got way steeper than we anticipated, and after one season sailing in Stockholm's archipelago, we didn't know how we felt about sailing. Our second season was way better, and we decided that we were ready to start our voyage! We are leaving Stockholm, Sweden in 2 months, and will take the Kiel channel, cross the North Sea to the UK, then go to my hometown in Brittany, cross Biscay to Coruna, and once in Gibraltar, we will make a decision where we go next! Departures (https://www.youtube.com/user/DescendingTVSeries) Music by Lion, Meet Lizard (https://soundcloud.com/lionmeetlizard) Really appreciate the support, check out the Patreon for more access and perks: https://www.patreon.com/FindingSimon If Patreon isn't your thing, I also have a Paypal.me link: paypal.me/ShelbyandSimon I've also created an Amazon Wish List if you'd like to purchase specific items I'll need as the build continues: http://a.co/dx7F4dz I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel to world. I make travel vlogs sharing my ups and downs, adventures on motorbikes, sailboats, and vans. Instagram: @Finding_Simon Snapchat: Finding_Simon Twitter: @FindingSimon Donations: paypal.me/ShelbyandSimon Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/FindingSimon Merchandise: http://simonstiles.com/finding-simon/ :::::::FAQ::::::: - How do you afford to travel constantly? A: I travel really cheap, free camping, cooking my own meals, being as efficient as possible. I make my income almost entirely on YouTube but it's really tight. Ad revenue, patreon, paypal donations, merchandise sales and affiliate links bring in about as much as a part time minimum wage job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough I go back to work, doing photography mostly, sometimes commercial video projects, but it takes me away from my travels and videos. - How much does it cost? I spend on average $2000 travelling, most of which is gas, some repairs, food, and on average less than $200 on any eating out, shopping or extra curricular expenditures. I make $200 a month from YouTube and $400 from Patreon. The rest I make from my work. - What camera do you use? Sony A7ii, DJI Mavic Pro, Rode Videomic with Deadcat, Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, DIY tripods and lights. - What is your bike? 1999 Yamaha Vstar XVS1100 with a Champion Escort sidecar. - What kind of boat is that? It's a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 - What're your plans? Fix it up, run nothing but green power, sail off into the sunset. - How do you find all these cool places? To gain access to my complete research you need to hit me up on Patreon, but here's a few sites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/ https://www.campendium.com/ http://www.atlasobscura.com/ https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - What do you do for Internet? I use coffeeshops and libraries to upload episodes a few at a time, I also use my wifi antenna (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5T9lNM8Mukk&t=2s) and a data package on my phone (10GB) - How do you live on the road with a dog? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with my dog anyways, especially if it's warm out in the middle of the day. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make some decisions, avoiding places that ban dogs, and spending more time out in nature instead of in the cities. - What happened to the girl? We decided to go separate ways (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPgxDIXxCjY&t=4s) - Are you rich or something? definitely not. I've spent some quality time homeless, I've struggled financially most of my life, and although I'm blessed with great friends and family as well as being able bodied white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to travel the world. You need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, time with family, and often your career but it is possible. - Why don't you have 10x more subscribers? My channel isn't that old, many of the bigger channels you can compare mine to started putting out videos a couple years before I began. I could always use your help sharing my videos, spreading the word, and connecting with cross promotional opportunities. Editing and travelling tend to take up all my time. - Where are you now? The top perk on my Patreon page is a live link of my location on google maps so you can get an active idea of where I am currently. If that's not an option for you there's also Instagram and Instagram stories that give you a much better idea of what I'm up to today.
More Cranaval... yes! In my opinion you don't do things half way, you go all the way. So I close Carnaval de Santa Cruz and enjoy weeping for the burning of the Sardine. Brady from SV Delos gets in contact with us and sends us on a mission. Detectives Yosh & Bon, Super Slooths https://www.sailingnandji.com In this episode of Sailing Nandji, Marley and Bonita go for a little excerise and run into a pack of dogs who want to tear the bark off them. With the braveness of Bonita, they both escape but not worse for wear. We high tale it out of the city on a mission. Brady from the well known vessel SV Delos, wrote to us asking if we could translate some lyrics in a song for him. With Detective's Yosh and Bonita on the case, we steadily track down the location of the language. We deal with some unexpected weather in an anchorage that is not the best suited for what is coming. Leaving the following day, we head out a nice day sail and of course have engine issues at sea. Thats why we carry spare parts people! Enjoy! Patrons Only! We now have special feature videos in every episode for our patrons only. After few days in Beautiful Bequia, s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) moves on to Mustique, an idyllic gateway owned by Mustique Company. The island is composed of seven valleys, each with a white sand beach and wooded hills where exquisite private residences are hidden from public eyes. With a harbour front focal point, Lovell Village is a small gathering of houses where few locals live, together with Vincentians employed by Mustique Company to run and maintain the private properties and the 2 hotels on the island, Cotton House and Firefly. We had a great time exploring the island by bicycle, snorkeling and interacting with both the locals and the posh guests. St. Vincent & the Grenadines

Fulanga is one of the most remote inhabited islands we've ever been to. There's no airport. There's no cruise ships. The only tourists come via sailboat. And it is absolutely worth the trip. We completed our sevu sevu in the village of Monothaki and were adopted by one of the local families. Suka, Mary and Tui took us in, fed us until we couldn't eat anymore and made us feel so welcome. Another villager, Alifreti invited us to a kava party hosted at his home and it seemed like everywhere we went we were offered more and more coconuts. And we all know that's the way to Amy's heart! Not only were the people of Fulanga incredible, but the island is one of the most stunning we've ever seen as well. A drift snorkel through the entrance pass was quickly voted one of the best snorkels we've ever done. We found a "secret" beach that ended up being not so secret, but still had an amazing time exploring. Even though it was all too short, we'll always cherish the time we spent in Fulanga and the incredible people who make it such a special place. Thanks for watching! Dicey spinnaker flying in a coastal race from Charleston!! In this week's episode of sailboat living with SailAway...We're back!!! After a several week video hiatus due to some minor life details in preparation for sailing the bahamas - like selling our house, taking some separate travel time, and prepping to sail south to Florida (we'll cover all that in a few episodes), we bring you Part One of the Alice Cup Race from Charleston, SC out into the Atlantic Ocean, and down the coast to Bohicket Marina, SC, an all-day race followed by a second race back to Chucktown the following day. This is one of two such races run yearly as part of the Charleston Ocean Racing Association's Ocean series and always our favorite. Racing as a sailing family with a baby and a dog has *possibly* taken the edge off of our competitive nature, but it hasn't killed our desire to get out there and mix it up. :-) We even decide to race in the spinnaker class even though very short-handed...and using a spinnaker sock...which led to some pretty interesting sail changes. But with great wind, rolling seas, and a beautiful sailboat girl at the helm, there wasn't much to complain about. Definitely a good part of sailboat living! Be sure to SUBSCRIBE for WEEKLY CONTENT! Have you ever heard of SPLORE? We hadn't until last week when we met a cool guy named Will who came by to borrow a tool. He told us SPLORE was the most radically awesome festival New Zealand had to offer. AND it was family friendly! Incredible. We haven't been to any others in NZ to compare, but SPLORE was epic. Awesome! Amazing! We had a blast. If you're in New Zealand in February next year we highly recommend checking it out. (This episode was in no way sponsored by SPLORE. We just really loved our experience at the festival) Family Circus is a family of four sailing around the world on their boat, "Family Circus". We make movies about our life on board and share our experience of what it's like starting a youtube channel while sailing around the world. The core of "Family Circus" is Chris (Dad / Captain), Sayo (Mom / Admiral), Aya (First Officer / Deckhand) and Miya (Baby / Stainless Polisher). After many years in business in Vancouver we were tired of life inside the box and wanted to make a change, we just weren't exactly sure what would be next. In July of 2016, when Sayo was six months pregnant, we decided (somewhat at the last minute) to fly to New Caledonia for one last holiday before the baby was born. On this trip we decided to buy "Family Circus", planned to sail her to New Zealand and started an adventure that changed our lives. SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe-5... I posted a video last year named 'Recovering a tender James Bond style'. The video went crazy and has over 2 million hits and provoked many comments from 'experts'! The boat being recovered however has a value higher than many people's houses, mine included. So the crew are going to take their time. Anyway here is a short video showing how NOT to recover the tender. I didn't post it at the time because my phone's memory ran out and it just stopped recording. Now I thought I'd just put it together and post it for fun. It also shows right after how to do it properly. And lastly how to launch the tender at sea.
