See Video 2 in the series. This is the all-encompassing instruction for learning, building, and installing lights for your house. https://svdreamchaser.com/wledguide for all the details. I've always loved the idea of permanent Christmas lights! More accurately, I wanted a way to enjoy excellent, programmable Christmas lights that are also super versatile. My goal was to leave these lights on the house year-round. I want them to serve as fantastic accent lighting that enhances the architecture of my home. Plus, I'd love to show my team spirit by displaying my favorite team's colors during a thrilling game. And let's not forget about celebrating Independence Day with vibrant red, white, and blue stripes! Essentially, I'm looking for smart, year-round programmable lights that can adapt to multiple purposes and add a festive touch whenever I need it. I wanted my holiday lights to look fantastic and not like I forgot to take down the strings from last Christmas! It was important that they were easy to set up and could simply run on timers with programs I set in advance. Plus, I wanted them to be user-friendly, so anyone unfamiliar with the setup could easily turn them on without any hassle. I accomplished all of that through a valuable journey of education and experimentation, discovering what truly works and what doesn't. Sure, you could opt for brands like "JellyFish Lighting," but have you considered if it will meet your expectations? Will it look as amazing as you envision it in your mind? When I think about it, testing and validating my setup is crucial because I need to be sure it works for me. If you feel the same way, keep reading! I'm excited to share how I approached this process, and I'm happy to say I'm thrilled with the results. This will be a fun multi-part series where I'll walk you through the steps I took to validate my ideas. I'll cover the processes, the mounting methods I tried, the programs I selected, and the various lights I tested before finding the perfect fit. Let's dive in and explore together! Surprise, surprise. It’s STILL not warm for Arabella and crew, which is anchored in Charleston, SC. Annie B. heads back home, and Jack and Steve continue on. “Beaufort to Buford” is the war cry! The first challenge for Jack and Steve is Elliot Cut, a notoriously tricky section of ICW south. With the help of a few walkie-talkies, Jack and Steve communicate clearly with each other through the “skinny water,” making it through the cut, and avoiding the shoals. The landscape along the Intracoastal Water south of Charleston continues to change, becoming more serene and unique with every bend in the Ditch, and Akiva is only too excited to get his feet wet—quite literally. The unseasonably cold weather has been following Arabella south since they set sail in mid-November, and it’s starting to get old. The crew’s expectations have not been met by a long shot, and it’s impacting morale. Even their “cockpit blankie” can’t prevent the cold from getting into their bones. It’s one of the few situations where they’re grateful to be motoring on a low-wind day than out sailing, with the wind chill making 30º feel like 15º. Other than a comedic “who’s on first?” situation with the bridge tender, Jack and Steve make it into Hilton Head just in time for a sleet storm. The sleet and ice turn Arabella into a winter wonderland—except with less wonder and more dismay. They never expected to need to shovel 3” of slushy sleet and ice off the deck from an anchorage in southern South Carolina. The winter storm has a massive impact on the south—transportation is at a stand still, whether by air, sea, or land. Jack has a bit of trouble making his way back home, but ultimately catches a flight out of Savannah to get back to his saw mill in Maine. Jack specializes in providing white oak and other timber for all kinds of boat building projects, and has worked with the Pride of Baltimore, Blue Nose in Nova Scotia, Adventure in Gloucester, and so many more. Learn more at daratimber.com. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! This week's project has been improving the poor furling system I had been running and trying to make a good reliable systems capable of going to wind. Nothing beats a bit of boat DIY and winter maintenance like trying to sort a headsail furling problem. Using a couple of cheap old headsail furlers from the USA and combining them with modern torsion cables, figuring out how to stitch those cables, modify the chainplate, run a 2 to 1 halyard and upsize the winch. If this all goes together, I will be a happy man. We've been using hank on sails for nearly four years, and boy would it be nice to be able to furl our sails just like the rest of them! This is the sail we use in storm conditions, so if what I've done isn't up to the task, it won't be fun to find out. Tell us what you think, is this going to be a massive boating fail, or a huge win for the wallet? :D I had good fun making this one so I hope you have fun watching it. Hopefully I have interrupted important sailboat boat work to bring this important furling news. If you enjoy watching, consider subscribing and hitting like and it does help massively. If you really enjoyed watching, consider buying us a coffee as that money goes to projects like this. https://buymeacoffee.com/theincompetentcrew

Rust prevention made easy! 🌟 I used this simple and affordable $15 kit from Amazon to cover all exposed bolts on my project, and after almost a year, there's still no sign of rust. These bolt covers not only protect against corrosion but also give a clean, finished look. To keep everything extra polished, I paired the caps with Wichard Wichinox Gel Cleaner for routine maintenance. 💡 Here are the product links if you want to try it yourself: Wichard Wichinox Gel Cleaner - 09605 https://defender.com/en_us/wichard-wichinox-gel-cleaner-09605 Keadic 160Pcs Bolt Covers Screw Caps Kit https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08HQKZVNF Check it out and let me know your rust prevention hacks in the comments.

This boating trip has been a blend of mundane maintenance and delightful discoveries. Days were filled with the familiar rhythms of boat life: defrosting the refrigerator, scrubbing the cockpit, and facing the inevitable challenges of onboard repairs. A leaking generator pump added a layer of discomfort, especially in the cooler weather, but Steve installed a new pump which made it so we could run the heaters in the cooler weather. The fuel tank woes, however, proved more serious. A hefty 170 gallons of fuel had to be removed, the tank thoroughly dried, and then refilled at an estimated cost of $660. While frustrating, this unexpected expense was a reminder of the inherent costs of boat ownership. Yet, amidst the challenges, there were some nice moments like spotting gentle manatees is always a magical encounter. Evenings at the slip were spent savoring delicious meals at local restaurants. How to Assemble the Strongback for a Kayak. in this Step-by-Step video, boat builder Bob Emser walks us through the process of assembling the strongback for the Little Auk 11 kayak. The strongback is a crucial part of the build, providing the necessary support and structure for the kayak as we move forward with the rest of the construction. Whether you're a first-time builder or a seasoned pro, this guide will help you get it right, step by step. Nick Schade's design of the Little AUK 11 kayak is a compact, versatile, and highly efficient craft, designed primarily for day trips, light touring, and recreational paddling. Schade, who is known for his work in kayak design, has a strong focus on creating boats that are both functional and beautiful, with an emphasis on performance. Overall, the Little AUK 11 is a well-loved design, particularly for those looking to build a personal kayak that offers the ideal mix of efficiency, stability, and style. The simplicity of its build combined with its elegant lines makes it a popular choice among DIY boat builders and kayakers who want a reliable and beautiful boat for day trips or light touring. “If you’re going to make it, make it beautiful.” Bob Emser As an advocate for backyard boat builders I offer a free 30 minute chat about your project.
