After breaking down while motoring south in the ICW, we discovered that the seals on our Sillette drive leg had failed, letting water into the oil. Now, we’re tackling a full drive leg rebuild on our Prout Snowgoose 37 catamaran to get back to cruising life! In this episode, we clean and prep the parts, install new bearings and seals, and dry-fit everything before finalizing the build and priming and painting it. It’s been a tough few weeks of DIY boat repair, but we’re pushing through to keep our sailing adventure going. We arrive in Brisbane and tie up on a mooring buoy at the Squadron Club where hopefully the kids will go sailing. During the week we go to all the libraries to do schooling at we go exploring at the weekends. We do a couple of house sits and the boys get to crew in the Hobie Cat races . We get to visit the Maritime Museum , find out how to operate a war ship gun and how a pearl lugger from Thursday Island is being renovated. Go To PATREON ...and .... In this episode of Sailing Eleutheros, we continue our sailing adventure in Bermuda! After Mark’s solo offshore passage in the last episode, I reunite with him in St. George’s. Before we set sail again, Mark tackles a crucial boat maintenance task—rebedding the port lights with butyl rubber to ensure our sailboat stays dry and seaworthy. Exploring Bermuda, we walk along the stunning coastline, passing by the historic Town Cut—the narrow channel Mark sailed through to enter St. George’s Harbour. Along the way, we encounter a lively group of goats running along the road, adding a fun surprise to our adventure! Our journey takes us to the Unfinished Church, a breathtaking ruin that tells a fascinating story of Bermuda’s past. Later, we hop on a local bus to Windy Hill Farm on market day, experiencing Bermuda’s vibrant local culture. Our return walk along the old railway trail is a nature lover’s dream, surrounded by lush tropical foliage. To wrap up this episode, we visit Fort St. Catherine, a historic coastal defense built in 1614, offering incredible ocean views and a glimpse into Bermuda’s colonial history. Join us as we sail, explore, and immerse ourselves in the beauty of Bermuda! Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and hit the bell for more real-life liveaboard sailing adventures. After weeks of waiting for parts, we're finally putting our sailboat back together! This isn't just about repairs. Our boat is our home and our only means of transport. In this episode, we fix our diesel tank fuel supply, recalibrate the system, and reinstall the head sail. But just as we're ready to go, tropical depressions in the Coral Sea force us to put our plans on hold. Living aboard a sailboat means being self-sufficient, planning for the unexpected, and ensuring that everything works when it matters most. Without a reliable diesel engine, we lose control in tight spaces, risk getting caught in bad weather, and can't move when we need to. That's why this process is so critical. Whether you dream of the sailing lifestyle, are interested in liveaboard life, or want to see what it really takes to keep a boat ocean-ready, this video is for you! After years of being career focused, we decided it was time to shake things up and sought a lifestyle that would provide us with new experiences, humble us, allow us to visit remote locations, and experience new cultures. In 2021, we traded our regular suburban lifestyle for a nomadic one and moved aboard our sailboat, Te Tāiko, a Chico 40. After three years sailing in New Zealand and preparing for Category 1 (regulations for New Zealand registered vessels planning to sail offshore), we set sail from New Zealand to Fiji on the 23 May 2024. This would be Vicki and Tāiko's first ocean passage and Adam's third. We have since sailed to Vanuatu and New Caledonia, where we will be during the cyclone season. We fund our lifestyle by working part time. This sometimes involves returning to New Zealand to help top up the bank account. The other avenue is through our content creation where we document our journey though YouTube videos and our our social media accounts and website. @the_reeva_project Embarking on a journey from the serene Krabi River to the vibrant shores of Satun, we set sail under the starlit sky, arriving at the Satun River by midday, precisely timed with the tides. Despite meticulous planning and guidance from the PSS Satun team, unexpected shallow patches led us to run aground. In this moment of challenge, the unwavering kindness of the Thai community shone brightly. Three longtail boat crews came to our aid, skillfully maneuvering Reeva back to deeper waters. Their generosity and expertise left an indelible mark on our hearts. Upon reaching Phithak Shipyard and Services (PSS), established in 1992 in Ban Chebilang, Satun province , the proficient team took charge of Reeva's haul-out with remarkable efficiency. PSS has evolved from servicing fishing boats and ferries to accommodating a diverse range of vessels, including yachts . The shipyard is renowned for its comprehensive services, encompassing mechanical repairs, painting, and intricate woodwork . Navigating to PSS requires careful attention due to unmarked channels and tide-dependent access . Despite these challenges, the shipyard's commitment to customer satisfaction and the genuine warmth of its staff make it a preferred destination for many sailors . Robin finally returns to Arabella after spending a few weeks dealing with work stuff. Steve takes the opportunity to handle some housekeeping and tame Akiva’s mane while waiting for Robin to return. Once Robin arrives, Steve takes her on a tour of the oldest city in America. St. Augustine was founded by Spanish settlers in the early 1500s—and it has the fort to prove it! Steve and Robin get to walking, touring the Castillo de San Marcos, which was built from a curious material called “coquina,” which is made from a paste of mollusk shells, crustaceans, and brachiopods. Walking through the fort, Steve and Robin get a taste of what life was like 500 years ago. After their tour of the fort, Steve and Robin poke around the shops, and check out a few interesting art galleries. Robin gets serenaded by Ken Jensen at Jensen Pottery, playing a ceramic guitar he crafted himself—art meets music! And Phillip Castillo—St. Augustine’s OG of art—shares the Bart’s local art collection with Arabella’s crew. Of course, coffee was involved :-) Robin and Steve head out of St. Augustine and head to a quieter, more secluded anchorage. At Ponte Vedra, they enjoy long walks on the boardwalk, paddle boarding through a pod of dolphins, and wildlife spotting in the nature preserve. Life doesn’t get much better than this! They even meet another local artist, Ross Currington, who is a skilled artists and woodworker who carves incredibly detailed fish out of cypress wood! Steve also shares the plan for the rest of the winter season. Sailing to Puerto Rico isn’t in the cards at this point, so the crew decides to change course and make way towards the Florida Keys instead, with the ultimate goal of sailing to the Dry Tortugas! Robin has found a few mountain biking trail networks along the way south, which is a good consolation prize since they won’t be climbing in Puerto Rico, as they hoped. If anyone has suggestions for what to see or where to anchor the boat along the east coast of Florida, email acorntoarabella@gmail.com. Likewise, if anyone has ideas for a graphic for our next tee-short campaign, we’d like to see it! All creative concepts are welcome! -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! Welcome aboard to our sailing adventures! Join us as we dive into boat maintenance, DIY upgrades, and unforgettable moments on the water. Recently, we gave the forward head a teak backsplash makeover and repaired some molding. We encountered some manatees while walking. By stripping old latex paint off a wall, a beautiful African mahogany wood surface was exposed. Explained the hydraulic steering system on Isabella—from the helm pump to the autopilot actuated electric pump and hydraulic linear drive. Waiting to get it power bled to get any air out of the hydraulic fluid. We and the boatyard also did some engine care, including an acid flush for the Cummins engine heat exchanger, antifreeze flushing for the Northern Lights generator, and rebuilding the diesel fuel tank access flange. And of course, we’ve got some great music and a little waltz to make the experience even more fun! Come along for the ride as we share our love for boat maintenance, upgrades, and the beauty of life on the water! We love you subscribers! Early release ... We have received so many questions that we decided to publish the Laser Machine Review video sooner. WAS BUYING A LASER MACHINE FOR OUR SAILBOAT PROJECT WORTH IT? IN THIS EPIDOSE: - We go over all the functions and how to operate the machine. - We compare MIG welding to Laser Welding. - We do welds strength test. - We have first timers using the welding functions (people without any prior welding experience and laser machine knowledge). - We talk about cost too. Please let us know in the comments below what you think about this kind of video (gear review) and if there is anything specific you would like to see in the future. We hope our review will be helpful for your current or future project. @the_reeva_project Our sailing adventures always seem to come with a bit of drama—just to keep things interesting! On our last night sail, we had to deal with a choked head (not fun at all!), which meant an all-nighter of troubleshooting and fixing. Luckily, we got it working just in time and made it safely to Port Takola. After celebrating the holidays with family and friends, we took a few days to relax at Port Takola Marina, Krabi—reorganizing and preparing for our next big journey. It's a new year, and we have new plans for Reeva and ourselves. But before we set off, we need to make sure Reeva is ready for the adventures ahead. We set sail from Krabi River to Satun, South Thailand, where Reeva will be hauled out and prepped for some serious long-haul sailing. Exciting times ahead—stay tuned! In this video, we start building the walls for the doghouse on our sailboat using resin infusion—a process that draws resin into fibers with vacuum pressure. This is the same method we'll later use to create the massive carbon fiber mainsheet beam that will be integrated into the doghouse. Since the beam is a crucial component, we're using this stage to refine our resin infusion skills. And as with any learning process, there were a few mistakes along the way—but with each section, we improved. Join us as we take on the challenge, learn from our experiences, and get one step closer to completing the doghouse!

Winter in Messolonghi means dinghy sailing in January, building an arch for the solar panels and carrying out various maintenance jobs. Before we set sail in the spring, we travelled with a group of sailors to Meteora to visit the monasteries high up on the cliff tops. An absolutely fascinating place that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But see for yourself!

After a few challenging (and expensive) days on a dock in the fancy town of Hilton Head, Jack finally catches a flight home, and Steve’s friend, Jeff, makes his way into town to take his place. Steve provisions the boat, and cleans the rest of the snow and ice off the deck. Before heading 20 miles offshore for the passage to Florida, Steve needs to get the stern anchor back into place on the bow of the boat. He takes the opportunity to do this, fill the water tanks, get Arabella’s name onto the boat (finally) and get some other housekeeping tasks done before Jeff arrives. The weather looks good, but Steve is only cautiously optimistic—he’s been burned before! Jeff arrives, and Steve goes through some basic safety training with him before they untie the frozen lines and cast off from the dock. He also shows how AIS helps him make important navigational decisions. Riding the current out of Hilton Head sets Steve and Jeff up for a smooth journey south to Saint Augustine, where Robin is anxiously awaiting her honey and her home! They sort out a watch schedule, and Steve actually gets to sit back and read a book in the cockpit—something he’s been waiting months for! A massive pod of dolphins swim alongside the boat, putting on quite the acrobatic show, and Akiva shows off HIS new skills! The wind dies down—and the temps go up—forcing Steve and Jeff to motor the rest of the way to Saint Augustine. But that makes it possible for Steve to rig a makeshift fishing line and hope for the best! As they make it into Saint Augustine, the sun hat comes out—and so does Steve’s smile! Arabella has officially made it to the Sunshine State.
