I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel the world. I make vlogs sharing my ups and downs, and my adventures in vans, on motorbikes, and on sailboats. - Who is Champ? Champ is my handsome 14-year-old Labrador, who travelled almost everywhere with me for his whole life. He loves chin scratches, fetching sticks, and scarfing down cheeseburgers and pizza. - What camera equipment do you use? I use a Panasonic FZ2500, a DJI Mavic Pro, a Rode video micro with Deadcat, a Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, as well as DIY tripods and lights. - What are your vehicles? I drove a 1992 Dodge Ram B350 camper van all over North America for about two years. Travelling by motorcycle made for some unique trips. I explored the Canadian Maritimes (and deserts and backroads all over the continent) on a 2002 Kawasaki KL250 Super Sherpa dual sport bike, and also rode my 1999 Yamaha V-Star XVS1100 cruiser with a Champion Escort sidecar across my home country twice. From land to water travels: I currently live and work on a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 catamaran. - What are your plans with the boat? I will fix it up, run it on nothing but green electric power, and sail off into the sunset. Stay tuned for the growing build and the adventures to come! - How do you find all these cool places we see in the videos? To gain access to my complete research and the world traveller’s map I curate during my explorations off the beaten path, you need to hit me up on Patreon. Here are a few websites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/, https://www.campendium.com/, http://www.atlasobscura.com/, https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - How do you afford your lifestyle? I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

We made it!! We had two important achievements this week. First, we finished the walls, something we were really afraid we would be able to accomplish with the quality we wanted, but we did it. Yes, we did it and we loved the result. Second, we completed our first one year of one episode a week without missing a week!! We are really proud of ourselves, we have been learning so so much. We feel like we went to a film school plus got a master degree on how to run our YouTube channel. Feels like 5 years have passed and we are really glad we decided to take this challenge. Thanks so much everyone for being part of our journey!! __________________________________________________ WANT MORE? http://www.patreon.com/oddlifecrafting (Become a Patreon to get instant access to behind the scenes, extra pictures, perks, and even more) _______________________________________ #shippingcontainerhouse #tinyhouse #DIY

The Tula Shop - http://tulasendlesssummer.com/shop-tula/ Some of our stanchion bases were leaking and it turned out that our stainless lifelines that we replaced a year ago probably aren’t as high quality stainless as they should be. We decided that instead if repairing and re-bedding the stanchion bases conventionally to borrow an idea that some racing boats are using as well as our friend Mike and make carbon fiber stanchions. We bed a fiberglass rod into the deck of our catamaran with a collar that a carbon tube will slip over as the stanchion. This will prevent any leaks from forming again, it will take some weight off the boat, and it will be a great experiment. Our next project will be to splice our own dyneema lifelines. Kelibia was the last port of call in Tunisia. Although it was sad to leave Tunisia, we weren’t quite as sad to leave behind the smells and flies of the fishing port. Although killing flies became a full-time sport for our youngest! We’d been waiting several days in North Africa for the right weather window and were relieved when it came. Our Digital Yacht AIS is not transmitting and we still can't trace the fault, so with a lot of marine traffic between Tunisia and Sardinia, we were keen to cross the shipping channels as quickly as possible in daylight. As we approached Sardinia we realised we didn't have an Italian courtesy flag so quickly cobbled one together from bits of other flags and hoisted it with the Q flag a few miles offshore. The kids don't eat much on passage - depending on the sea conditions - so when we arrive at our destination they’re always hungry and obsessively talk about food! At Cagliari we anchored out but the swell was so bad we eventually opted for the marina which was quite expensive for us at €80/night and it was nothing special for that price. We tried to check in at the Port Police and Customs - a task that’s difficult at the best of times but here they were closed altogether. We were told to go to the airport which was a train journey away – only to be told we didn’t need to check in at all! Bureaucracy at its best! So we spent the rest of the day doing some window shopping and our daughter spent tway oo much time in Zara. Butchers can also be tricky places in some countries and we were faced with wild boar piglets and nearly bought some horse meat for dinner! We skipped along the south Sardinian coastline stopping at Pula Bay and other beautiful anchorages. It would have been nice to stay in Sardinia longer but because we stayed longer in Tunisia than expected, our timeframe for getting to the Balearics was limited, We were caught out several times by unexpected storms large beds of Posidonia which meant the holding was pretty bad. The anchor dragged one night and we picked up a lobster pot! We also lost the dinghy, retrieving it with a well-rehearsed MOB procedure. Eventually we found a sheltered bay hidden away from the mystral winds which friends had recommended – Tuerredda Beach - so we caught up with them and spent a couple of days on a beautiful beach with white sand and aquamarine water. We also caught up with a bit of maintenance on the boat - re-mouse the lines on the solar arch and practicing poling out the headsail with the spinnaker pole, using an 18 year old Amel brochure as reference material! We picked up extra crew – Alex – an old friend from the UK and when the weather was right – headed for the Balearics. Keeping entertained on passage is always challenging and on this one we had a combination of knitting, audio books, cooking, GarageBand and war games to keep the boredom at bay.. and of course, boat schooling continued as normal. The first place we hit land was a lovely bay in the southeast of Majorca. Nothing there apart from lovely white sand and.. nudists! But it was nice to get off the boat and build some sand castles. We stayed only to relax and catch up on some sleep before carrying on south to Ibiza. The first thing we did was stock up on food and treats from the local Lidl. We'd been traveling for quite a few days so it was time to relax and watch the famous sunset in the bay of San Antonio ⒸⓄⓃⓃⒺⒸⓉ ▷PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/mothershipadrift Contributions to the video blog budget greatly appreciated! ▷YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/c/mothershipadrift Video blogs from the boat! ▷INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/mothershipadrift Photos from the boat, the crew, the sea and other sailing families and characters! ▷FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/mothershipadrift Updates, photos videos and news as it happens! ▷AMAZON: https://www.amazon.co.uk/shop/mothershipadriftfamilytravelandsailingblogs Products, spares and items we have on the boat! ▷TWITTER: https://twitter.com/moshipadrift Chats and comments from the boat ▷WEBSITE: https://www.mothershipadrift.com Coming Soon! ▷Follow our boat on NOFOREIGNLAND: https://www.noforeignland.com/boat/5858761751134208

She's back! Randi left me for six days to go visit her sister in Oregon, giving me the opportunity to push my work ethic to it's limit. She's back now and is hopefully going to be impressed with the work I got done. In this vlog I managed to do a little plumbing with PEX and veneered a bulkhead with waterproof vinyl flooring to surprise Randi when she got back to the boat.

We install the new boat floor and cut in the ski locker today, nice not to walk on planks across stringers. We had to get all the rot out of the floor of this boat, did not take the floor out all the way to the edge of the hull. We used marine 14-inch marine plywood over the stringers we fiberglassed in. For resin we really like Total Boats slow cure product, it gives us more working time and very easy to mix a small batch. We put in little blocks of plywood around the edge of the new floor going in and then screwed and resined them in. We also painted the tops of the stringers of our boat with resin to help glue the new floor down. We then screwed it all together and worked on getting blemishes out of the top of the boat floor for paint. Follow along as we breath new life into this 2004 Bayliner Bowrider. In this video we put the floor in and show you how we tie it in with the remaining floor. We this cut out the Ski Locker, no point in have a Ski Boat that you can't store water skis. The next thing we have to do is pour the expanding foam under the floor. This 2004 Bayliner Bowrider 175 is really starting to look good. Randi left me for six days to go visit her sister in Oregon, giving me the opportunity to push my work ethic to it's limit. I'm challenging myself to get as much work done as possible while she's gone, so that when Randi returns she will be amazed. In this vlog I tore up our old water tank lid, made a new one, sanded and re-coated the tank with food-grade epoxy. The next step will be to plumb the newly refurbished tank to the galley sink so we can have running water like human beings. Patrons will only be charged for a maximum of one video per week. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not-A-Broker Consulting: https://www.patreon.com/notabrokerconsulting Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/learningthelines/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/learningthelines/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. We're not afraid to jump into anything, put in the work, and learn as we go. For this reason our channel is very DIY focused, with the goal to show anyone watching that a lot is possible if you're not afraid to make some mistakes along the way. Please leave a like and comment if you've enjoyed the video, and subscribe if you haven't already.

Review the Attwood in-line blower fan for our inboard Bayliner Bowrider 175 boat. We show you how we installed the Attwood bilge blower fan and then turn it on so you can hear it for yourself. With the engine running or the radio on we won't be able to hear it at all, but the video the only thing I turn on is the bilge fan. We didn't think the bilge fan was very loud and may get another one to add more airflow. A great bilge fan at an awesome price. A bilge blower fan is a must-have for any inboard boat, reducing engine compartment smell and the chance for a fire. We would hate to be out on the water and things go terribly wrong causing us to abandon our Bayliner Bowrider 175. Cutting the tongue on your trailer to allow an 18-foot boat to fit in the garage with swing-away trailer kit. There is no reason for a boat to be the only thing in your garage, the simple step will allow room for your car. See Fulton Install Here: https://youtu.be/5vDDmJG8szs Stay tune in a later video where we install the swing hitch on this boat trailer. We are looking at different options for our boat trailer and there are many choices. There is bolt-on, weld-on, or we can just build the boat swing hitch ourselves. Follow along as we breath new life into this 2004 Bayliner Bowrider. I have not bought the kit yet so I will have a later video showing the installation. In this video, 10 Days in Paradise, Part 4: Stopped by the POLICE, our windlass needs Danlove, therefore we can't raise our anchor so we get we're stuck for another day at beautiful Mason Island. We leave early the next morning only to get stopped for a second time by the 5-0 on patrol! We then convoy with the Bluenose II on our entrance into Lunenberg for drinks and a hunt for the new Windex! If you like these videos, please SUBSCRIBE to see more, and be sure to give this video a like! In August of 2017 I sold everything and moved aboard Balachandra, a 1986 C&C44 sailboat, then sailed it over 300 nautical miles to Halifax Nova Scotia to spend a cold Canadian winter in the frozen waters of the North Atlantic. Sailing Balachandra is my YouTube sailing vlog inspired by other great channels such as Delos and La Vagabonde, which documents the sailing adventures of myself and the occasional crewmembers(s) as we navigate the east coast of North America and beyond. I also dive into lots of DIY boat projects both above and below decks, and share with you all of the pros and cons of living aboard in a cold climate.

Fellow boaters - I'm thrilled to share my latest project with you: MaintenanceROS! Crafted from my experiences aboard Starry Horizons, it's designed to simplify vessel and maintenance management, making life on the water even more enjoyable. Explore https://MaintenanceROS.com and enjoy an exclusive 20% discount for the first 6 months using promo code 'outchasingstars'. Seamlessly manage your boat's upkeep – let's embark on this journey together! ***** We love our boat, we really do. But she was over on the East Coast of Australia and we wanted to go sailing on Ningaloo Reef on the West Coast. What to do? What to do? It was a tough choice (not really), but we hopped on a 3 night dive charter aboard Shore Thing with Sail Ningaloo. And had an absolute blast. The diving was spectacular, the reef was one of the best we'd seen and the best part? We were on a boat without having to do any of the work! Does life get any better??? But being aboard another boat did make us miss our girl and the trip to Ningaloo Reef meant that our travel adventure around Australia was just about at an end. We did a short trip up to Exmouth to attempt to swim with whale sharks and then another short one down to Perth to see some Quokkas. And then it was time to go home. Thanks for watching! (Footage from March 2018) A huge thank you to Captain Luke and Sail Ningaloo for partnering with us and taking us out to Ningaloo Reef! We had an amazing time and can't wait to come back some day! https://www.sailningaloo.com.au/ Also be sure and check out their YouTube channel for more awesome videos of the reef! Randi left me for six days to go visit her sister in Oregon, giving me the opportunity to push my work ethic to it's limit. I'm challenging myself to get as much work done as possible while she's gone, so that when Randi returns she will be amazed. In this vlog I painted the bottom and barrier coated smaller areas on the hull, by myself, all in one day. What's next? Stay tuned for part two on Sunday! Feeding the wild baby ducklings in our backyard. These little ducks always come up for food every day now, and they are coming much closer than they have in the past. You see they left their mom on the outside of the fence. The last batch of ducks that came through there were 3 ducklings and they did this till they got too large to fit through the fence. It is nice to see this mom duck had 11 ducklings that made it. Took our boat window off, getting back to work on our floor, have so much left on the Mercruiser 3.0. We have taken the window off the Bayliner Bowrider 175 and are continuing to clean. Meguiar's is working perfectly to clean up the oxidation on the fiberglass. The floor in our boat is fitted raw wood, have to make that look so much better. The boat engine, while a new rebuild has to be completely gone over. The mechanic we trusted to stab this didn't tighten things, used wrong bolts, if a bolt was even there, and lost parts. I know my wife and I working together can get this Bayliner boat on the water. This is only a small step as we continue working on our Big Dreams. Follow along as we breath new life into this 2004 Bayliner Bowrider. Next steps are, getting the floor solid and cleaning up the window to be repainted. Also, have to get the distributor in the Mercruiser 3.0 l and order the rest of the missing bolts the JB Automotive misplaced. We had a lot to do in order to get ready for the steaming of the frames. We cut the frame sockets as well as milled up all the framing stock, and just in time. A method for making the pinhole camera obscura room under 20$. 1) Make your room dark with black tarpaulin (approx. 10$) and curing/masking tape (3〜10$). (black one is better than clear one) 2) Make the window for attaching the pinhole (φ2cm) screen. 3) Attach it. That's it. Appendix “Consideration for the diameter of the holes....” The larger the diameter of pinhole is, the brighter and more blurred the image is. The smaller the diameter is, the darker and more clearly the image is. At first I recommend the moderate-size circlar hole (φ 2 cm). “Considerate of the position of a hole” If you make a hole on the upper side, you can see the upper of outside. If you make a hole on the lower side, you can see the lower of outside.

After 4 days in Newport, s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) sailing adventure in Rhode Island continues to Bristol. Sailing from Newport to Bristol turned out to be mostly motoring, but on the return trip it was a totally different sailing experience! To begin with, it was a very calm downwind sailing. Then when we rounded Providence Point and turned into the wind, we had a very fast and thrilling upwind sailing, having to tack six times. It certainly felt like perfect sailing: bright sunny day, great wind and flat sea. In Bristol itself we spent only one day. We visited the town in the evening of our arrival, and we found it very quiet. Quite a bit different from the buzzing Newport. And certainly, different form the old Bristol, when the town was thriving due to its rubber industry. The following morning, we took a dinghy trip across the bay, to Bristol Marine Shipyard. On the boat maintenance front, in this video Glen is fiddling with the generator, again. 4-5 September 2018 To better understand the story-line of this video, we invite you to read our daily sailing blog posts: Day 1 – Newport to Bristol: Motoring from Newport to Bristol, visit Bristol and tackle the generator exhaust. Day 2 – Bristol to Newport: Morning trip to Bristol Marine, then brilliant sailing back to Newport.
