Built to high standards in The Netherlands in 2017 at Privateer yachts shipyard after a design by Van Eesch Naval Architects. We sailed from Cherbourg, to Jersey, to England, Wales and Scotland. Summer in the Outer Hebrides was very special. On the trip back to Cherbourg it was fun to go to familiar places and see friends we’d made along the way. As mentioned, it’s the perfect time for us to keep this boat. And it’s the perfect time for us to sell this boat. It’s also the perfect time for someone to buy this boat. We know there’s lots of people out there who want it. Someone is going to be lucky. We decided to let you know now that Snow Gum is for sale, rather than waiting until after the engine is sorted out. We didn’t want to delay the announcement; we know that people are making plans. Better to know earlier than later. The engine has been a disappointment, but the problem is being fixed under warranty by Volvo. Garcia’s most excellent Warranty Manager and the Garcia design team here in Cherbourg are working with the local Volvo Service Agent, the agency that certified the original engine installation. We have the right people on the job. We’ve been impressed with the energy they have put into this and expect a good resolution very soon. The problem has been difficult to diagnose. The coupling has been replaced. The gearbox has been replaced. The noise is getting worse. It must be the engine. That’s where we’ve all got to and the next step is to lift the engine out and, most probably, put a new one straight in. We’ll keep everyone updated. While this is a new experience for us as owners, it’s a matter of routine for the boating industry here in Cherbourg. Notwithstanding, we are all moving forward slowly and prudently (under my leadership because I care about it the most - Rick) to get the best result. Well, we are Kate and Curtis. We both sold up and headed out to sea to search for freedom, with the goal of sailing around the world via Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope. We brought our mixed rescue dog along with us as she loves sailing and swimming too! Our boat is a year 2000 J Boats J/46. We searched for 3 years for our perfect sailboat for sale, when we found it, we knew it was the one. We spent 6 months re-fitting it in Rhode Island and then went for our shakedown voyage in Maine. We stopped in Annapolis for a bit to do some more refit work and offshore modifications, then we set off to the open sea. We went to the Bahamas, Miami, US Virgin Islands, BVI, Grenada, Carriacou, St. Maarten, where we enjoyed outdoor adventures, scuba diving, and have now did an Atlantic Crossing to the Azores where we had a chance to fly our DJI drone (and learned how to fly a drone from a boat) and one of our favorite past times, mountain biking. We have sailed over 10,000 bluewater miles to date. We watched other sailing channels before we left as well. We even considered van life, a tiny home, or a motorhome / rv. Some of the channels we enjoyed were Gone with the Wynns, Project Atticus, and MJ Sailing. We didn't really set out to be influencers, but we wanted to return the good karma and pass our inspiration and knowledge along. This particular yacht was built in 2002 And It just so happens that we were lucky enough to be visiting the Bavaria yacht factory at the time. I witnessed myself the superb build quality that Bavaria yachts were achieving in their semi-automated factory. As with several of the leading boat manufacturers, the goal at Bavaria has always been to automate the complex task of building yachts fast. A point that I want to make. Traditionally and it will always be the case that many boat builders take more than a year to construct a yacht. in 2002 Bavaria was capable of building yachts within weeks rather than months. Fast production lines capable of making hundreds of yachts each year was the solution to delivering quality yachts at affordable prices. The Bavaria price saving strategy helped more people than ever before get into boating. Hull construction remained a manual process as no machine Was capable of ensuring that the fibreglass matting was laid without trapping pockets of air that might lead to us osmosis. Back in 2002, Bavaria was one of the first boat builders to use a robot to precisely cut windows and shapes from hand-laid hulls and decks. Combining labour-saving construction techniques, with advances in sail rigging systems Bavaria ensured each yacht was fitted with a sail system that would not only be very efficient. Sailors didn't even need to leave the safety of the cockpit to raise and lower sails. In-mast furling as used on this Bavaria allows the user to roll out a precise amount of sail for weather conditions. Well-proportioned side decks with sturdy handrails along the coach roof are a nice feature of this yacht. Cockpit size has increased further since this Bavaria 40 yacht was built in 2002. However, she has a perfectly proportioned seating and helm area for her size. A sturdy and trusted Volvo Penta diesel engine with cold circuit water cooling Is conveniently situated behind the companionway stairs. Below the deck, the modular construction techniques used by Bavaria has created a unique living space. The linear galley used on the 40 in place of a traditional L-shaped galley frees up space for a good-sized shower and toilet compartment at the back of the main saloon. Well, we are Kate and Curtis. We both sold up and headed out to sea, with the goal of sailing around the world via Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope. We are excited to get to the fjords and channels of Patagonia and we are working hard to get there. We brought our mixed rescue dog along with us as she loves sailing and swimming too! Our boat is a year 2000 J Boats J/46 (The previous version of the new J/45). We searched for 3 years for our perfect sailboat for sale. We debated whether to get a catamaran or a monohull. When we found the right boat, we knew it was the one. We spent 6 months re-fitting it in Rhode Island and then went for our shakedown voyage in Maine. We stopped in Annapolis for a bit to do some more refit work and offshore modifications, then we set off to the open sea. We went to the Bahamas, Miami, US Virgin Islands, BVI, Grenada, Carriacou, St. Maarten, where we enjoyed outdoor adventures, scuba diving, and have now did an Atlantic Crossing to the Azores where we had a chance to fly our DJI drone (and learned how to fly a drone from a boat) and one of our favorite past times, mountain biking. We have sailed over 10,000 bluewater miles to date. We put on miles like a Canadian trucker in a freedom convoy ;-) Honk honk! Being from the great lakes, we already knew how to sail, but cruising was new to us, so we watched other sailing channels before we left as well. We even considered van life, a tiny home, or a motorhome / rv. Some of the channels we enjoyed were Gone with the Wynns, Sailing La Vagabonde (before they had kids:-), Project Atticus, and MJ Sailing. We didn't really set out to be influencers, but we wanted to return the good karma and pass our inspiration and knowledge along.
