It's time to get Nauti Dogs ready for her next chapter! Before putting my 56-foot sailboat up for sale, I've got a few last-minute repairs and upgrades to tackle. I'm calibrating the engine RPM gauge, replacing battery connections, troubleshooting bilge pump issues, and taking care of a few other things to get the boat back into shipshape condition. Once the work is done, we leave the marina and make the short trip over to the boatyard, where Nauti Dogs will be hauled out and stored on land while I'm away. The goal is to get her looking good, running properly, and ready for potential buyers. Hopefully, by the time I return, she'll have found a new owner! In this comparison, I take a closer look at TAMSEN, RED DRAGON and METEOR to see just how much yacht you get for your money. TAMSEN, built by Perini Navi in 2007, is the largest at 52.41 metres, with an impressive 463 GT and accommodation for up to 15 guests. RED DRAGON, delivered by Alloy Yachts in 2008, measures 51.7 metres and offers a beach club, spacious guest accommodation and a tender garage that doubles as a plunge pool. METEOR, built by Royal Huisman in 2007, takes a completely different approach. Inspired by traditional Gloucester fishing schooners, she prioritises sailing performance over interior volume, with accommodation for just six guests and a reported top speed under sail of approximately 20 knots. Perhaps the most interesting comparison concerns their sailing rigs. TAMSEN is a ketch, RED DRAGON a sloop and METEOR a schooner. We examine how these configurations differ, along with their sail areas, displacement, engines, cruising speeds and range. And, of course, we look at the asking prices. With two of these yachts on the market at the time of recording, the differences in design, interior space and value are particularly interesting. ‘Serenata’ is a 2018 Hanse 388, listed exclusively for sale with YOTI on Pittwater. Designed by Judel/Vrolijk & Co and built by Hanse Yachts, the 388 carries the hallmarks that have made Hanse one of the world’s largest and most successful sailing yacht builders. The self-tacking jib and in-mast furling mainsail make ‘Serenata’ easy to sail, while the twin-wheel cockpit provides plenty of room to move around. She is a one-owner boat that presents incredibly well. It is clear she has been well cared for and has enjoyed a relatively easy life cruising around Pittwater. Below deck, the popular two-cabin layout provides generous accommodation while allowing for an enlarged galley, creating an enjoyable space to prepare meals and drinks. Without a third cabin, there is also a dedicated storage area aft to port. French Oak furniture, Delight Oak flooring and upgraded grey upholstery create a modern, inviting interior, while a custom comfort mattress has been added to the forward cabin. Blinds with flyscreens and 12V fans in both cabins are ideal for Pittwater’s summer evenings, while an Eberspächer diesel heater keeps things comfortable during the winter months. The Elvstrøm Dacron sails comprise a fully battened mainsail and a self-tacking jib, both on furling systems. Two electric Lewmar 40ST winches and two manual Lewmar 40ST winches are complemented by ten Spinlock clutches, with an adjustable backstay completing the sail controls. The cockpit features a bimini, dodger, connecting panel between the two, cockpit cushions and wheel covers. A Zodiac 270 dinghy with an aluminium floor and Yamaha 6hp four-stroke outboard are included, making trips ashore easy. Navigation is taken care of by a comprehensive B&G electronics package, including a 9-inch Zeus³ chartplotter at the helm, two Triton multifunction displays, a hydraulic ram autopilot, a V50 VHF at the chart table, a B&G handheld VHF and an AIS transponder. The electrical system is equally well equipped, with twin 160Ah AGM house batteries installed in August 2024 and monitored by a Victron battery monitor. A 250W solar panel mounted on the bimini feeds through a smart charge controller, while a Mastervolt charger and 240V shore power provide additional charging options. Power comes from a Yanmar 3YM30AE 29hp diesel engine with just 348 hours. The engine and saildrive were serviced in May 2026. ‘Serenata’ is a well-presented, recently serviced and thoughtfully equipped cruiser, ideal for those looking to enjoy easy sailing on Pittwater and further afield. After some last-minute maintenance and final preparations in Cape Charles, Virginia, we set off on a 230-mile, 33-hour offshore passage around Cape Hatteras, a place infamous for dangerous seas, unpredictable weather, and countless shipwrecks. That's the question Katia Damborsky explores as she steps aboard the brand-new Lazzara UHV 100 in Turkey for an exclusive first look inside. UHV stands for Ultra High Volume, and Lazzara has made particularly good use of the space available on this 30.5-metre yacht. With approximately 400 square metres of usable space, unusually generous head heights and wide passageways, the UHV 100 has proportions that you would normally associate with a much larger vessel. The yacht is built using advanced composite materials, with an emphasis on durability, structural integrity and long-term reliability. Lazzara also manufactures most of its components in-house rather than relying heavily on subcontractors, allowing the shipyard to maintain close control over construction and finishing. Katia begins her tour on the foredeck, where a large lounging area and Jacuzzi take advantage of the yacht's elevated position above the water. The technical equipment is cleverly recessed, keeping the working areas separate from the spaces used by guests. The upper deck offers a particularly generous lounge, complete with a bar, cinema area and games table. Outside, there is another entertainment area with a concealed television, grill and retractable shade. The wheelhouse is equally impressive, with a striking curved staircase and a design that feels more like something you would find aboard a considerably larger yacht. Inside, the attention to detail becomes even more apparent. Different wood finishes distinguish the decks, while large windows, floating floors and carefully selected materials contribute to the feeling of space and quiet throughout the yacht. The full-beam owner's suite is located forward on the main deck, with panoramic views, two walk-in wardrobes and a marble bathroom. Four additional guest cabins are situated on the lower deck, bringing the total to five. She also explores the galley, which has been designed with family use and extended cruising in mind, before visiting the crew accommodation and engine room. And it is in the engine room that some of Lazzara's most interesting engineering decisions become clear. Redundant systems, a centralised seawater intake and extensive use of hard piping demonstrate the shipyard's approach to building yachts intended to remain dependable over many years. Having previously visited the smaller UHV 87, Katia is already familiar with Lazzara's construction philosophy. But the UHV 100 takes that approach further, combining the practicality of a long-range cruising yacht with the space and finish of a much larger superyacht.
