KORU is different. In this walkthrough, Katia Damborsky takes us aboard this remarkable Feadship in the South of France. Delivered in 1983 and designed by the legendary Jon Bannenberg, KORU was conceived as a serious world-cruising yacht and has an impressive history behind her. A major two-year refit completed in 2024 brought significant changes, including an extended stern, redesigned exterior areas and a much more usable sundeck. Inside, the yacht has also been refreshed, but many of the original Bannenberg details have deliberately been preserved. KORU accommodates 10 guests in five cabins, with an unusual amount of flexibility in the layout. Her current owner's suite sits lower in the yacht, while a bright VIP on the main deck offers another possible owner's cabin thanks to its position and direct connection to the exterior deck. The tour also reveals some of KORU's less obvious strengths. There is a main deck bar and cinema area that has become a natural gathering point, a large galley designed for serious service, generous alfresco dining and lounging spaces, and an original bridge that still carries plenty of the yacht's 1980s character. Katia also takes us into areas we do not always explore on the channel, including the engine room and crew quarters. The crew spaces are exceptionally generous, with five cabins for nine crew, while storage and service areas have clearly been designed around spending extended periods at sea. KORU is not an old yacht that has simply been modernised. She is a classic yacht that has been allowed to evolve naturally, retaining the history and character that made her special in the first place. And we flew ourselves to the Cannes Yachting Festival to check out the new Lagoon 47 catamaran. We don’t have a boat anymore, but we still dream about our years at sea on our Lagoon 46. So when the 47 was unveiled, we knew we had to see her in person. In this video we fly the Spanish coast and the stunning low-altitude VFR route along the south of France, settle into Cannes for two nights, and then take you through every inch of the new Lagoon 47, comparing it the whole way to the 46 we lived aboard for almost three years. New forward cockpit door, the mast moved forward again, an extra fifth cabin, a redesigned flybridge helm, and a lot more. We also snuck a look at the Lagoon 60, 65, and 82 for fun. Then it was back in the plane for a straight shot home over open water to Alicante. We don’t know yet what’s next for us… no boat plans to announce, no big relaunch promise. Just two people who love boats, taking it one moment at a time. What happens when years of sailing the Solent turn into something much bigger? In this episode, Alan McIlroy sits down aboard ARKYLA with her owner, James Kenning, to look back at the adventures, challenges and thousands of miles that have taken this Swedish-built Regina 43 from familiar UK waters to the Mediterranean, across the Atlantic and into the Caribbean. James bought ARKYLA through Berthon in 2018. After a season sailing locally and preparing both yacht and skipper for longer passages, the plan began to grow. What followed was several years of cruising, refits, upgrades and offshore sailing that would take ARKYLA across Biscay, down the Iberian coast, into the Mediterranean and Balearics, through the waters now infamous for orca interactions, and eventually across the Atlantic with the 2024 ARC+ from the Canaries to Grenada via Cape Verde.   The Atlantic crossing would prove considerably more eventful than expected. Despite meticulous preparation, ARKYLA suffered a succession of problems at sea. A nearly new hydrogenerator failed, her Parasailor was destroyed, sargassum caused further difficulties and, most seriously, a suspected whale impact resulted in damage to the rudder and hull. James discusses managing those problems offshore and the importance of preparation, practical engineering knowledge and understanding the systems aboard your own yacht.  As James puts it, “Mid-Atlantic is no place to be unprepared.”  After arriving in Grenada, the problems weren't quite over. ARKYLA required two emergency haul-outs in December 2024 before undergoing significant hull repairs in early 2025. Yet the setbacks didn't end the adventure, and James was still able to explore the Windward Islands, including Grenada, Carriacou, St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Lucia and Martinique.  But this isn't simply a story about things going wrong at sea. James and Alan also discuss why the Regina 43 has worked so well as a bluewater cruising yacht, the modifications made during James's ownership, sailing as a couple, choosing and preparing a yacht for serious offshore cruising, and some of the lessons accumulated along the way. Photography has also become an important part of James's life aboard ARKYLA. His sailing photography and writing have received numerous awards, including Cruising Association Photo of the Year and Hanson Trophy honours, World Cruising Club ARC+ Best Photo Blog awards, and recognition from the International Cruisers Awards. Two come from Amels, while VANISH was built by Feadship, and all three were delivered within a year of each other. On paper they may appear relatively similar, but once David starts comparing their volume, layouts, deck spaces and prices, three very different yachts emerge. At 1,790 GT, SYNTHESIS already offers substantial volume, with VANISH close behind at 1,728 GT. But ENERGY moves into another category at an extraordinary 2,885 GT, giving her more than 1,000 GT of additional volume compared with SYNTHESIS despite being only a little over three metres longer. That difference becomes particularly interesting when looking at how each yacht uses its space.
