We found her. We like her. We put a deposit down to buy her. This video is a basic walkthrough tour of a Westsail 42. We haven't completed the purchase just yet, but things are headed in that direction. In a few days Tambi and I will go back down to West Palm and relocate the boat to Green Cove Springs where we will wrap up the purchase and then get to work setting her up for live-aboard cruising. Well, we are Kate and Curtis. We both sold up and headed out to sea, with the goal of sailing around the world via Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope. We brought our mixed rescue dog along with us as she loves sailing and swimming too! Our boat is a year 2000 J Boats J/46. We searched for 3 years for our perfect sailboat for sale, when we found it, we knew it was the one. We spent 6 months re-fitting it in Rhode Island and then went for our shakedown voyage in Maine. We stopped in Annapolis for a bit to do some more refit work and offshore modifications, then we set off to the open sea. We went to the Bahamas, Miami, US Virgin Islands, BVI, Grenada, Carriacou, St. Maarten, where we enjoyed outdoor adventures, scuba diving, and have now did an Atlantic Crossing to the Azores where we had a chance to fly our DJI drone (and learned how to fly a drone from a boat) and one of our favorite past times, mountain biking. We have sailed over 10,000 bluewater miles to date. We watched other sailing channels before we left as well. We even considered van life, a tiny home, or a motorhome / rv. Some of the channels we enjoyed were Gone with the Wynns, Project Atticus, and MJ Sailing. We didn't really set out to be influencers, but we wanted to return the good karma and pass our inspiration and knowledge along. Granddaddy had been stationed there during World War II. We fantasized about hopping on a sailboat and sailing around the world. Our imaginations soon turned into interests and those interests grew like a weed. We began reading books, watching videos, and practicing knots. Before we knew it we were signing up for sailing lessons and taking offshore sailing courses. Last year we started looking at boats for sale. Now, nearly 6 years later, we are proud owners of the beautiful vessel, Moon Drifter. Moon Drifter is an extremely well taken care of and maintained single owner catamaran. Her Previous owners, Ralph and Helen, purchased her brand new in 2008 and sailed her seasonally throughout the Sea of Cortez up until they handed over the lines to us in 2021. This #sailboat was built for Gerry Douglas, the naval architect and engineer for Catalina Yachts for over 40 years. Mr. Douglas retired and his yacht was sold to a young family with cruising plans. Those plans have changed and this yacht is now on the market. The Catalina 440 is a true "Deck Salon", #bluewater cruiser. Unlike most deck salon style yachts you can see the outside surroundings from salon windows whether standing or sitting at the dinette. Dafür haben wir uns einen Katamaran gekauft, mit dem wir Anfang März von der französischen Atlantikküste auf die Barfußroute gestartet sind. Seit vielen Jahren war eine Weltumsegelung mein (Hannes) großer Traum, den ich berufsbedingt zum Renteneintrittsalter verwirklichen wollte. Manchmal kommt das Leben aber anders als man plant. Im Frühjahr dieses Jahrs erhielt ich die Diagnose Morbus Parkinson. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich.
