This is real sailing. Find out how we handle a huge spinnaker while sailing towards known pirate waters off the coast of Africa. #sailing #yacht #spinnaker We gybe the asymmetrical spinnaker shorthanded, surfing waves at 10 knots during the night to the east of Cabo Verde, Africa on our way to cross the equator. We don't find any pirates here though, just beautiful sailing! We are headed for South America, non-stop, from Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Our goal is Mar Del Plata, Argentina, then on to Chile and the fjords of Patagonia, but we are unsure if we will be able to enter or if the countries will be open or closed. We both sold up and headed out to sea, with the goal of sailing around the world via Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope. We brought our mixed rescue dog along with us as she loves sailing and swimming too! Our boat is a year 2000 J Boats J/46. We searched for 3 years for our perfect sailboat for sale, when we found it, we knew it was the one. We spent 6 months re-fitting it in Rhode Island and then went for our shakedown voyage in Maine. We stopped in Annapolis for a bit to do some more refit work and offshore modifications, then we set off to the open sea. We went to the Bahamas, Miami, US Virgin Islands, BVI, Grenada, Carriacou, St. Maarten, where we enjoyed outdoor adventures, scuba diving, and have now did an Atlantic Crossing to the Azores where we had a chance to fly our DJI drone (and learned how to fly a drone from a boat) and one of our favorite past times, mountain biking. We have sailed over 10,000 bluewater miles to date. We watched other sailing channels before we left as well. We even considered van life, a tiny home, or a motorhome / rv. Some of the channels we enjoyed were Gone with the Wynns, Project Atticus, and MJ Sailing. We didn't really set out to be influencers, but we wanted to return the good karma and pass our inspiration and knowledge along. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Without wishing to reveal too much at the preview, the builder was kind enough to tell us the name of this catamaran – the Aura 51. Like a certain Athena 38 launched in 1994, the Aura 51 does not have an island name... but keeps an “a” at the end. The first example has lines very much in keeping with the latest Berret/Racoupeau designed catamarans such as the Samana 59. The superstructure is refined, the bows inverted and the sail plan powerful – this is necessary to compensate for the increased displacement. The builder has also kept the double sail maneuvering station/helm at mid-height. As for the innovations to be found aboard, there’s a very large opening between the nacelle and the cockpit with the galley unit going through to the external part, and the possibility of installing 2,000 Wp of solar panels. The Aura 51 underwent seatrials during a winter sailing trip in Brittany - an opportunity for the shipyard to record average speeds often exceeding 10 knots in good breezes and to organize an original photo shoot even though the water temperature was chilly... Highly anticipated on the market, the Aura 51 will undoubtedly be the main competitor to the Lagoon 51. Take a tour of the 2005 Lagoon 380 S2 Owners Version "No ka 'Oi" currently offered for sale by The Multihull Company. The Lagoon 380 S2, owner’s version (3 cabins/2 heads) catamaran is a very comfortable, livable and manageable yacht. The owner cabin is in the starboard hull with a full bath forward, a large queen berth aft and desk and storage lockers in between. Storage is excellent with plenty of hanging lockers and shelf space. On the port side are two additional staterooms, fore and aft, with the head in the companionway in between. The main salon has 6’5” headroom and comfortably seats 8 at the central table with additional storage under the settees. Sleek hull shape, sharp lines, a premium MirageDrive that offers forward and reverse with Kick-up fin tech, loads of cargo space and massive room to accessorize. The Compass hull is roto-molded allowing it to have sharp lines and features as well as being incredible durable. We finally get to set the spinnaker, running off the coast of Africa towards South America under full sail, but while grabbing some epic drone footage, we encounter a big problem and Kate gets sliced by the drone! #sailing #yacht #spinnaker #drone #howtosail More about us at www.sweetruca.com It feels so good to finally set our spinnaker on our way to Argentina. Things are going well, but there are a few problems. We have noticed a problem with our masthead wind data, which is causing our new B&G H5000 autopilot to steer erratically and even try to crash gybe us. We are investigating, but in the mean time, the conditions were just too good not to fly our two favorite toys, the G3 cruising spinnaker and the DJI Mavic Pro in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Lets go sailing! So who is this crazy sailing couple making fun videos to share? Well, we are Kate and Curtis. We both sold up and headed out to sea, with the goal of sailing around the world via Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope. We brought our mixed rescue dog along with us as she loves sailing and swimming too! Our boat is a year 2000 J Boats J/46. We searched for 3 years for our perfect sailboat for sale, when we found it, we knew it was the one. We spent 6 months re-fitting it in Rhode Island and then went for our shakedown voyage in Maine. We stopped in Annapolis for a bit to do some more refit work and offshore modifications, then we set off to the open sea. We went to the Bahamas, Miami, US Virgin Islands, BVI, Grenada, Carriacou, St. Maarten, where we enjoyed outdoor adventures, scuba diving, and have now did an Atlantic Crossing to the Azores where we had a chance to fly our DJI drone (and learned how to fly a drone from a boat) and one of our favorite past times, mountain biking. We have sailed over 10,000 bluewater miles to date. We watched other sailing channels before we left as well. We even considered van life, a tiny home, or a motorhome / rv. Some of the channels we enjoyed were Gone with the Wynns, Project Atticus, MJ Sailing. Of course also Delos and La Vagabonde. We didn't really set out to be influencers, but we wanted to return the good karma and pass our inspiration and knowledge along.
