Malta to Tunisia via Lampedusa Island, this was our second passage for 2014 and the first time for us in North Africa. The seas were nice and calm due to the lack of wind but Annie enjoyed this sail. We are taking the time to re-make most of our videos, so we have a record of where we have been and how we got there. Keep watching as there will be more. The engine repower fun goes on. Now that Karl is back in the water, it's time to tackle the alignment. First we need to build some extra spacers to raise the engine a bit more before we can move it slightly up and down and left and right to manage to get the transmission flange and shaft coupling aligned with gaps smaller than 4 thousandth of an inch. Will we succeed? Well, you have to watch to find out... FOLLOW BEHIND THE SCENES @SVDELOS The crew just spent over a week at sea together. Then over the horizon, we spotted St. Helena! A really really really remote Island in the middle of the Southern Atlantic Ocean. After going ashore and walking around we have a bit of "welcome to land" party! What a crazy unique place this is :) Lots of love from us! READ THE BLOGS! https://svdelos.com/travel-blogs/delos-diaries-part-17-st-helena/ Subscribe at http://youtube.com/svdelos This is our story, a story of three souls sailing around the world. It's a story of people living their lives in an alternate way, in close connection with the beautiful people and amazing planet that we call home. Our experience has affected us so profoundly we want to share it, hoping that others may find inspiration to follow their dreams and do what they love. For more sailing around the World Action! Right in front of the house is a row of perfectly straight Norway spruces. We couldn't help but think about the possibility of them becoming a part of Arabella. Especially considering that Steve's Great Grandfather planted them. What a great story to become a part of our ship! Now, to take it down in one piece and safely... As mentioned in the video, we are looking to put out a new piece every other week where we answer questions people send in, preferably via a short video clip so that we can incorporate that into the segment. If you would like to send us a question, please send a message with the attachment to: acorntoarabella@gmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for the support and if you are looking to do more, please consider becoming a patron at http://www.patreon.com/acorntoarabella FOLLOW US: Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/acorntoarabella Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/acorntoarabella/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/acorntoarabella Website: http://www.acorntoarabella.com
Cartagena offered a lot of squalls and some chaos with dragging boats in the anchorage. But we also got to enjoy the charming city again and found exotic animals in the park before we checked out of the country and set off to the island group Islas Rosario. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us. WANT MORE? Aston Martin Hits the Water with the AM37! When Aston Martin decided to enter the world of powerboats they did not go at it by half measure. Quintessence Yachts were commissioned to build the boat, using a Mulder designed hull and with Aston Martin design throughout. The quality level of this boat is very impressive indeed, worthy of the Aston Martin badge. I flew to Fort Lauderdale to take a good look at it and report back to you. In this episode, I drag my anchor, visit a warship, have an ultimate bbq and get to chill. Lots of boatie stuff in this one . . . enjoy. Thanks to Ran sailing for 2nd camera shots. Thank you for watching this episode, please give us a thumbs up and subscribe. On Facebook our page is ‘Adventures of an old Seadog’ and there you can find ‘realtime’ up-dates and news. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. After last week's efforts to make the cockpit cushions, we finally gave into the inevitable and bought a Sailrite sewing machine! Nick drops a few f-bombs trying to assemble it (standard!) and once he finally gets it all in working order, he is able to make our new cockpit tent! Spoiler alert: he does an AMAZING job, especially for someone who, two years ago, didn't know how to sew a hem! There will of course be a full review of the sailrite over the coming weeks.
