In this episode, we take our first trip off the season on our solar powered boat, heading toward the charming town of Vonitsa. Somehow it seems like we're faster this season, and I try to figure out why. Later with 35 knot winds on the way, we make the call to pull anchor and find safer shelter. What follows is a tense anchoring session, in a quiet bay that turns out to be one of the most special places we’ve ever visited… a bay filled with rays gliding beneath the surface. This is what we love most, turning electrons into real adventures.

Shortly after our 3-month Scandinavian adventure, we started the larger maintenance tasks we wanted to tackle: mainly painting the deck and the deckhouse. Since we faced some trouble in upholding the hull, wishing also to re-do the bottom painting, the obligatory 'CvO-keuring' (EU certification) shortly anyway and need to check out electrical stuff, we decided to book ourselves a spot at the 'Teerenstra-warf' in Den Helder. In this video, we bring together several weeks of work on Willem Johannes to make improvements to her as proper 'parents' should and get her in tiptop shape for a few years to come.....we hope :-) What is a CvO-keuring? In the Netherlands, a Certificate of Inspection (CvO) is mandatory for certain pleasure craft as a result of implementing European regulations. This requirement applies to vessels longer than 20 meters, those with a block size exceeding 100 cubic meters, and specific types of boats regardless of length, such as tugs, passenger ships, and vessels carrying hazardous materials. The Inland Waterways Act came into effect on July 1, 2009, with a 10-year transition period for existing vessels. Failure to obtain a valid CvO can result in significant consequences, including prohibition from independent sailing and a potential decrease in vessel value. The CvO certificate is valid for a maximum of 7 years and requires renewal through safety inspections. Vessels that applied for a CvO before December 30, 2018, benefited from a transitional arrangement with less stringent requirements. After this date, ships must meet all modern standards, which can be challenging for historical vessels. Stay tuned, for we soon will be setting sail again to the Dutch seas and Isles....because, x-mas is coming. #musto #maintenance #sailing

Last weekend saw Round 6 of the RS21 UK & Ireland Cup hosted by Rutland Sailing Club, where sailors were greeted with sunshine and strong winds across both days of racing. Saturday’s racing kicked off with a steady 20 knots across flat water, which made for tight mark rounding's and close competition throughout the fleet. As the day went on, races 3 and 4 brought slightly lighter yet gusty winds, turning the course into a game of snakes and ladders. The day wrapped up with the class’s signature pontoon drinks, followed by their AGM and a three-course dinner at the club. On Sunday, sailors reunited for breakfast before heading back out for another sunny day of super-close racing. With four races sailed in 15-knot conditions, the action was as tight as ever. At one point, six boats were overlapped at a single leeward gate! After an exhilarating day on the water, the weekend concluded with their prize giving. The RS21 Class Association would like to thank Rutland Sailing Club for their fantastic race management, hospitality, and participation with their club boats joining the fleet. The collaboration between the RS21 Class and Rutland Sailing Club was a true success. Final Standings: 🥇 284 – Dark and Stormy / 5 O’clock Somewhere 🥈 334 – Skedaddle 🥉 262 – Random #rssailing #sailitliveitloveit #JoinTheRevolution #rs21sailing

IRC One delivered one of the closest corrected-time battles of the 2026 RORC Caribbean 600. After nearly three days of relentless trade wind racing, the outcome hinged until the final gruelling beat to Antigua from Redonda. Bruce Chafee’s RP42 Rikki (USA) crossed the line in an elapsed time of 2 days 21 hours 51 minutes 30 seconds, and her corrected time under IRC sealed victory. Xavier Bellouard’s Lift 45 Maxitude (FRA) took line honours for the class, but corrected out to second place, just 9 minutes 32 seconds short after 600 demanding miles. Third place went to Woody Cullen’s Swan 58 WaveWalker (USA), completing the race in 3 days 00 hours 30 minutes 11 seconds elapsed. In classic Caribbean 600 fashion, IRC One was decided by precision, not just pace, setting the stage for reflections from the winning team on Rikki and their closest challengers aboard Maxitude. Even if you're not looking to buy a boat - this is one video you should not miss. We spent a day sailing The Solent with owner Anthony Wheaton and in a candid interview told us the story of Aeolus. Why after 15 years of ownership and bring her back to mint condition, the time is right to move on and downsize. This is an amazing look at one of the best classics sailing UK waters. In this video, I break down how catamarans and monohulls communicate danger, how comfort can turn into overconfidence, and why the “safer boat” is the one that matches how you make decisions under stress. This isn’t about which design is better. It’s about learning to read what your boat is telling you before it’s too late. If you’re choosing your first serious cruising boat or planning to head offshore someday, this is a conversation worth having. 👍 Like if this helped you see the debate differently 🔔 Subscribe for honest sailing prep without the marketing fog ⛵ Built for beginners who actually want to get on the water Everyone asks the wrong question: which boat handles bad weather better, a "catamaran vs monohull"? This video explains why the boat that feels safer can lead beginners into "scary moments" and more danger. This insight is crucial for anyone looking to "buy a sailboat" or considering a "liveaboard" lifestyle, helping you understand the true nature of "sailing" and "how to sail" safely.
