First, you’ll see the wind at the top of the sail going up and spilling out, and from the back of the boat you can see the wind direction at the top is different from the bottom because the sail is tighter at the bottom. Then we move the fairlead forward, which pulls down on the leech and closes off the gap. Watch the wind direction change at the top as the leech tightens—and notice the boat heels over a bit because there’s more force on the top of the sail. Salve Elementos! Pretendíamos deixar Bertioga no dia 5 de Março de 2021, entretanto recebemos um aviso sobre o clima que me preocupou a ponto de ficarmos mais alguns dias em Bertioga. É curioso pra mim que eu amava sentar à janela, em silêncio para curtir as tempestades que passavam e eu torcia para que durassem muitos dias e hoje, morando no Quinto Elemento há 6 meses, passei a odiar chuvas de vento consideravelmente embora me beneficie da água que escorre pela capotaria. Voltando ao assunto... Comemos sashimi caiçara de Baiacu fresquinho com os amigos maravilhosos que fizemos no Indaiá. Xande e sua esposa Thalita são pessoas extraordinárias e acolhedoras que nos fizeram sentir em casa. Não posso deixar de lembrar da pequena Isa, criança que emana luz e felicidade. Os amigos desceram do interior para uma visita, que começou com o auxilio em um foco de incêndio em uma lancha fundeada ali bem próxima. O Marcinho foi quem conseguiu tempo na agenda maluca de quem vive na cidade e fez a travessia de Bertioga até Ilha Bela conosco, embora tenha dormido por quase o caminho todo. Sentiremos saudade deste lugar e, sobretudo, destas pessoas maravilhosas, mas temos que ir, encarar o sonho, os planos e torcer para sempre ter motivos para sentir saudade de onde passamos. Erica returns back to the boat after going home for 2 weeks and we quickly scramble to get the boat ready for our last sailing trip with friend in La Paz. We have spent another fantastic season in the Baja and our time here is coming to an end. We welcome aboard our friends, which would be our last until we cross the Pacific Ocean. This episode is full of everything, boat work, swimming with whale sharks, sailing and diving with sea lions. In this episode, we take on Sweden’s highest peak climbing Mount Kebnekaise. It turned out to be one of the toughest hikes we’ve done so far. The trail took us over steep rocky slopes, across Björlings Glacier with crampons strapped on, and then up a via ferrata section — which, by the way, Jeanette thought was the best part. After more than 11 hours on the mountain, we finally reached the summit at 2,097 meters, or 6,879 feet. This climb was one of the adventures we’d planned on our motorcycle journey up to North Cape — the northernmost point of Europe. Having successfully collected our new autopilot and instruments from Aktio Marine near Preveza the town quay in Lefkas fails to be the place to have it fitted. So with heavy hearts we set sail south knowing we will fit the auto pilot system ourselves but somewhere more peaceful and scenic than a busy town quay.
