Dafür haben wir uns einen Katamaran gekauft, mit dem wir Anfang März von der französischen Atlantikküste auf die Barfußroute gestartet sind. Seit vielen Jahren war eine Weltumsegelung mein (Hannes) großer Traum, den ich berufsbedingt zum Renteneintrittsalter verwirklichen wollte. Manchmal kommt das Leben aber anders als man plant. Im Frühjahr dieses Jahrs erhielt ich die Diagnose Morbus Parkinson. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Plan International ist ein internationales Kinderhilfswerk. Auf unserer Reise wollen wir nicht nur in Traumbuchten chillen sondern Programmländer von Plan besuchen und die dortige Arbeit dokumentieren. This time in the San Blas islands, Panama we met Gerhard, a proud owner of Catana 471 catamaran. What is so special on this boat? Daggerboards, high bridge deck clearance, tulip shaped bows, asymmetrical hulls, centred weights and enourmous sails area: yes, it is the ideal combination for a true performance cruiser. The excellent seaworthiness of the Catana 471 has been proven by all owners on the seven seas. Vinylester barrier make a solid and safe base to rely on. All lines come back to the safety of the cockpit on an electrical winch so there is no need to crawl to the mast foot to do your manoeuvres. This boat is extremely easy to single hand. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it.
