Der Inselstaat Vanuatu mit 350.000 Einwohnern hat umgeben von wohlhabenden Ländern wie Australien, Neuseeland und Neu Kaledonien ein relatives Bruttoinlandsprodukt, das nicht einmal 1/10 seiner Nachbarn beträgt. Unerwartet machen wir eine Zeitreise und tauchen in die dörflichen Strukturen ein, die außerhalb der Hauptstadt Port Vila das Leben der Bevölkerung prägen. Eingebettet in eine üppige Natur finden wir in dem ausgesprochen gepflegten Dorf Häuser, die aus den Materialien der umgebenden Regenwälder errichtet sind. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März 2021geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben passte als in meins. In den folgenden 6 Monaten hat Brigitta aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich über unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Insgesamt sind wir aktuell 4 ½ Jahre unterwegs. Ein Abenteuer folgt dem nächsten und wir genießen jeden Tag aufs Neue. The summer doldrums continued. Toni and I have been making many changes to “Moments in Time” and now we wanted to relax. Toni and I simply committed to a couple days to go out. We packed some food and departed Solomons in the spitting rain and dying winds. We managed to get the sails up and sailed for a little while before enabling the iron gennys and motor sailing to St. John’s Creek off of St. Leonard Creek. We dropped the hook and relaxed, watching the pop-up thunderstorms and jumping whenever lightning flashed too close. However, it cooled the evening temperatures. This is the first trip that we took with the “Miss Annemarie”, our carbon fiber dinghy. We did some sightseeing, visited a deserted beach, and went out to dinner. Two nights was not long enough but prior commitments forced our return to Solomons. It was a short but great trip. Having a dinghy opens many more options while anchored.
