Motoring to New Home Port Well today we untie the lines since making our initial splash into the water and find out what this old girl can do… We wish that we could sail but since this is the maiden voyage for us and a holiday weekend, we opted to motor the 36 miles from Palmetto, FL to Clearwater, FL. Educational learning opportunities this week… 1st we don’t like motoring we needed to exercise the engine for this trip to make sure that everything was working and in order. 2nd – Don’t take a sailboat on the ICW on a holiday weekend and 3rd some people are just rude and not nice on the water to sailboats. We did some under bridge crossings and got to experience waiting for some bridges to open. Overall, it was a great trip. Nancy packed way too much food and took a nap for a little while and it was a “Sh*t show pulling into our slip where we made longtime dock/marina friends because of it. Without them helping us to get into the slip, it would have been disastrous. Sorry, none of that mess made it to film but it’s laughed at all year long on the dock! Can I say this old girl doesn’t like going into her slip at all! Basil and Arthur Beaches are both picture-perfect and well worth the hike. The Yandoo team of Micah Lane, Fang Warren and Lewis Brake grabbed the lead shortly after the start and despite a strong challenge from the Shaw and Partners Financial Services team over the concluding stages of the race led all the way to take out Race 1 of the 2025-26 Australian 18ft skiff Championship on Sydney Harbour today. Strong winds earlier in the day forced race officials to alter the race schedule of two short course races and elected to sail one full length race over the South-East course. It was a decision which produced an excellent race in very poor conditions. Rain, poor visibility and fluctuating wind strengths throughout the race challenged the fleet and there were some very good performances by a number of teams, but the 2023-24 Australian and Giltinan champion team of Lane, Warren and Brake were superb and have set the benchmark for the remainder of the regatta, which concludes on Monday. At the of the long SE course, Yandoo crossed the finish line 40s ahead of Shaw and Partners Financial Services (Keagan York, Matt Stenta and Tom Anderson), with a fast-finishing Balmain (Henry Larkings, Tom Grimes and Lachlan Pryor) a further 1m39s back in third place. GC Sails, representing the Brisbane 18 footers SC, won the start and was always within the top four placings throughout the entire race. Skippered by Scott Cunningham, GC Sails finished in fourth place just ahead of Fisher & Paykel (Brett Van Munster), Lazarus Capital Partners (Tom Cunich), Smeg (Ash Rooklyn), Brisbane 18 Footers (Josh Sloman), Rag & Famish Hotel (Ben Crafoord) and The Oak Double Bay-4Pines (Hugo Stoner). Yandoo took the lead soon after the start and led y 10s from Shaw and Partners at the weather mark off Shark Island then extended it to 30s after the long spinnaker run across the harbour to Robertson Point. There was a great battle behind the two leaders with little between Balmain, GC Sails, Brisbane 18 Footers, Lazarus, Smeg, Fisher & Paykel and Big Foot Bags and Covers (Dave Hayter, Qld). Yandoo again extended her lead, to 40s, at Clark Island before the fleet’s next downwind leg to the mark off Chowder Bay. The spinnaker run tested all the crews as the wind dropped and the rain and visibility became worse. Over the next three legs of the course, two windward legs and a spinnaker run between Chowder Bay, Rose Bay and Taylors Bay produced more fluctuating conditions. The breeze dropped as the fleet worked in to Rose Bay Mark and Yandoo increased her lead to 1m20s but Shaw and Partners dragged that back to just 15s at Taylors Bay after electing to run on the western side of Shark Island under spinnaker when Yandoo’s went to the east. The Shaw and Partners team tried desperately to grab the lead from Yandoo on the final spinnaker run but trailed by 5s as the pair headed to the finish. Yandoo eased away over the final work to the finish for her 40s victory. Ärendet har nu gått tillbaka till Försäkringskassan där de fått i uppgift att ompröva ärendet med hänsyn till EU-reglerna. Något som jag påtalat för dem sedan dag ett men man ska tydligen behöva gå hela vägen till domstol och tillbaka för att Försäkringskassan ska ta till sig av den informationen. (Fick beslut från Förvaltningsrätten idag). Känns som de medvetet förhalar allt för att vi ska ge upp och inte orka stå upp för våra rättigheter längre.

We move to another anchorage in a fishing village called Elikin. We have been expected by the folks at Campement Villageois where we drop anchor. A great spot with food and drinks, and the very pungent aroma of fish drying a few hundred meters away. The next day are taken to gather oysters in the mangrove with two voracious Spanish chicks. Then we meet Jean Philippe at Eduard’s place where I am taught how to drink palm wine. I’m in the Kamangnene festivities where it is customary to go from one house to the other to be fed and given palm wine. The 53f5 beautifully blends performance, style, and functionality all in a genuine Blue Water cruiser. Elusive is an impressive example with an extensive cruising inventory, some notable updates and good maintenance history. This is the three cabin / three heads version. Like the deck layout, the interior is comfortable, functional, and beautiful with curved joinery – plus there’s a huge amount of space. The in-line galley offers a large amount of workable bench space and there is a fridge plus separate freezer. There is a real navigation / workstation. Natural light and ventilation is abundant with 19 opening hatches and the signature centre skylight above the saloon. The cockpit features twin wheel steering and massive oversized winches including three which are electric. This is a big yacht that can easily be sailed shorthanded. The mainsail is furling. Cockpit protection includes the bimini and dodger with link sheet plus side shade and clears. For a large yacht the keel was sensibly chosen as the wing option at 1.9m so Elusive makes East Coast cruising easy. There is a retractable bow thruster, generator, and air-conditioning. Instruments are comprehensive with Raymarine auto-pilot, AIS, plus a new Garmin plotter in the cockpit new in 2023. Elusive was soda blasted and all anti-foul removed in 2021. Rudder bearings were replaced in 2025 during her last annual haul out in July 2025. This is a sailor’s boat that is rewarding to sail and she will simply always look stunning.
