Nothing prepared us for how a small mishap could lead to this…Merch re-stock! Check out our classic tees here 😊 https://slimandsophsailingnakama.com/ We’ve been completing a circumnavigation of Australia aboard our tiny sailboat Nakama, for a while now, but it’s taken us a while because we’ve been also getting our degrees at the same time. And also, because I keep saying yes to doing yacht races with my mum. Crossing the pacific to and fro, means we haven’t been aboard Nakama for a while. But we hope to return to her soon, But, when both Slim & I need to go under the knife...Well, it might just be a little longer that our lap is delayed. Enjoying the episodes? ► Full test in Multihulls World N°200 : https://www.multihulls-world.com/review/motor/sunmare-50-a-powercat-for-james-bond ► Aimed at the high-end day charter market, this powercat was designed by Yacht Design Collective and Damien Bovie Design. The renders of the 3D images were already giving the effect... but then actually on the water, here we are aboard a catamaran worthy of appearing in the next James Bond movie! The layout is 100% day charter, with an extra-large nacelle - completely open at the stern and towards the bow-rider thanks to a glass door, which can remain open in fair weather. Modular seating throughout, an off-center helm station to starboard and... that’s enough. Each hull is nonetheless fitted with a double berth, plenty of storage space and a heads compartment. The one-off composite construction by Chantier Hervé (no need to introduce them in La Rochelle!), these stripped-down layouts and the absence of a hydraulic platform ultimately translate into a displacement of just 11.5 tons. The twin FPT motors, each rated at 500 HP, have little trouble propelling the Sunmare at 30 knots. On board, the Sunmare’s excellent ability to more through the and careful attention to soundproofing are particularly noteworthy. Maestro, as this boat has been named, is operated by Croisière Exclusive out of Porto-Vecchio in Corsica. Other Sunmare 50s could join it... Full test in our very next issue, the Power Special Edition #23. Builder: Chantier Naval Hervé Architects: Yacht Design Collective Exterior design: Damien Bovie Design Length overall: 50’6” (15.4 m) Length at waterline: 47’11” (14.6 m) Beam: 19’8” (6 m) Draft: 4’ (1.2 m) Displacement: 25,350 lbs (11.5 t) Engines: 2 x 500 HP FPT in-line + 2 x 15 kW (optional) Cruising speed: 20/25 knots Fuel: 396 US gal (1,500 l) ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 500 multihulls tests! This Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 50 Deck Saloon from second owner has been meticulously maintained, carefully handled and only privately used. Her current owner has updated her very well in 2024. He installed e.g. a new water maker, a radar, new lithium batteries, a new inverter/charger, a new anchor, new deck light, new halyards, new underwater lights, new 8kg washing machine, etc. etc. Now this 50DS has all ingredients for comfortable cruising whether you are on or below deck. She offers good sailing performances and is easy to handle with her In-mast furling mainsail, furling Genoa and electric winches. The skipper as well as the guests can easily move around in the huge cockpit with twin helm steering, ample seating and big cockpit table. She is well equipped with a 75-diesel engine with low engine hours, a bow thruster, solar panels, Raymarine navigation package including AIS and Navtex and a tender with outboard engine. Furthermore, a recent sprayhood and ditto bimini, electric windlass, and numerous covers. Also worth mentioning and quite indispensable when you are longer underway is the big lazaret and the huge sail locker forward. This Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 50 Deck Saloon can easily accommodate 6 overnight guests and is throughout fitted out with diesel heating. She has a big and comfortable saloon with u-shaped dining area to starboard, a settee and a nav desk to port and a sizable galley half a step down to starboard. The upholstery, floors, woodwork, matrasses, blinds, etc. are (as the pictures show) in very good condition. The master cabin with ensuite is located forward. And the two double bed guest cabins aft share the second bathroom. If you are looking for a versatile and comfortable yacht with good sailing characteristics, then this might be the one for you. Carefree & Comfortable without compromises

In this episode of Sailing the East, host Bela Musits welcomes David Lage, a cruising power boater who recently reached out with a great suggestion: feature more power boating guests on the show. While Sailing the East has traditionally centered on sailing stories, Bela and David dive into the surprising number of similarities between life aboard a sailboat and a power boat. Shared waters, shared challenges From navigating tides and currents to dealing with shifting weather systems, Bela and David agree that both sailors and power boaters face many of the same challenges. Whether under sail or engine power, boaters share the experience of reading the water, planning routes, and making real-time adjustments to keep a trip safe and enjoyable. Topics covered in this conversation: How sailors and power boaters use similar navigation strategies The role of weather planning in both types of cruising Why understanding tides and currents is essential for every boater Docking and anchoring considerations for different vessel types How trip planning differs — and where it’s exactly the same The camaraderie between sailors and power boaters on the water Learning from each other’s experiences Bela shares his own perspective as a sailor who spends long stretches aboard a Hunter 45 Deck Salon, often navigating coastal waters and inland routes. David brings the view from the helm of a cruising power boat, pointing out how systems, handling, and speed can differ — but also how the core skills and judgment calls are remarkably alike. Both agree that the more boaters understand each other’s challenges and techniques, the stronger the community on the water becomes. From VHF radio courtesy to offering help at a dock, shared respect goes a long way. Similarities between sail and power: Both require constant situational awareness Weather and sea state shape the day’s decisions Mechanical and system checks are critical before departure Good seamanship is universal — regardless of propulsion Trip memories are shaped by the people, places, and unexpected moments along the way A conversation rooted in practical seamanship Listeners will appreciate how Bela and David keep the discussion grounded in real-world cruising experiences. They talk about the satisfaction of a well-planned day on the water, the occasional scramble when conditions change suddenly, and the joy of arriving at a quiet anchorage or favorite port. The episode also touches on how both sailing and power boating demand a balance of preparation and flexibility. Even with the best charts and forecasts, you have to be ready to adjust course — something every experienced boater learns quickly.. Who should listen: Sailors curious about the power boating perspective Power boaters interested in sailing parallels New boaters learning about navigation, weather, and planning Anyone who enjoys on-the-water stories from experienced cruisers About the show Sailing and Cruising the East Coast brings together stories from coastal and inland waters, from multi-day sailing trips to conversations with fellow boaters. Hosted by Bela Musits, the podcast celebrates life on the water — the challenges, the learning, and the rewards of time spent afloat. Keywords for search & discovery: Sailing podcast, power boating podcast, cruising life, coastal navigation, tides and currents, seamanship, sailing and power boating similarities, liveaboard life, boating tips, marine weather, boating safety, anchoring, docking, Bela Musits, David Lage, Hunter 44 Deck Salon, sailing adventures, boating community.
