The Anglesey Offshore Dinghy & Catamaran Race is The North West's premier offshore dinghy race, covering over 15 nautical miles around the South East coast of Anglesey. Frequent visitors include Olympic sailors, and past and present National Champions. The race starts on the Royal Anglesey start line at Beaumaris in the picturesque Menai Straits. Then through Puffin Sound and passing the rugged cliffs of Anglesey. After crossing the glorious sandy beaches of Red Wharf Bay, the fleet head for the famous Lifeboat station at Moelfre. The finish is at Red Wharf Bay Sailing Club at Traeth Bychan. Rated by Yachts and Yachting as one of the top events to compete in. For 2020 the event will also include a shake down race from the Royal Anglesey Yacht Club on the Saturday night followed by a social evening before the Endurance Race on Sunday.

The list of surprises keeps growing. This season we decide to tackle some much need love below the waterline which never had a barrier coat. This doesn't go without a few hiccups or extra things to fix should I say. The rudder comes down to fix a structural issue where it's mounted, our propeller also has to be removed in order to replace the cutlass bearing, the strut gets welded, a water tank removed and the task of sanding the hull to bare glass begins. This leads to finding an old damage and making a huge hole in our keel, not ideal. All of that between some serious cleaning after our extremely moldy and wet return. Filmed Fall 2024. As a sailing family we love exploring new places. Today we paddleboarded and did some exploring on a bridge and some trails.

After seven weeks on our mooring in Huahine, we finally dropped the lines and headed to town to stage for our overnight passage to Moorea. The problem? We didn’t have a great weather window—but we booked a humpback whale swimming tour, and we really don’t want to miss it. For the next 24 hours, we watched the forecasts closely, debating whether we should go. The window looked possible, but definitely not ideal. The next morning, with the boat fully prepped for offshore sailing, we went out to assess the conditions for ourselves. To our surprise, the weather was far better than expected. So, we keep going. Through the night we made steady progress, and in the early morning we arrived in Moorea—tired, relieved, and excited. Our reward? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. The Clipper Round the World Race is what many regard as true ocean racing. Exposed to the elements on deck in traditionally shaped displacement yachts. Ten identical 70 foot yachts are taking part with 20 professionals – two on each yacht – while the rest of the crew are amateurs who have chosen to take part, sometimes to complete a single leg, while others are completing the full circumnavigation. It’s a true test of endurance; 40,000 nautical miles enduring anything and everything Mother Nature can throw at you. Founded by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the first solo non-stop circumnavigator, the Clipper Race began in 1996. Since then, over 6,000 crew from 60+ nations have participated in this global challenge. Becoming an ocean racer demands rigorous training. Every crew member, regardless of experience, completes four levels of Clipper Race training to tackle the world's most challenging conditions. We take a look at the race so far after Stage 6, hear from Oli Irvine, skipper of GOSH (Great Ormond Street Hospital), the overall leader of the race, and also Dylan Kotze, skipper of Warrant who won Stage 6 into Subic Bay, The Philippines. This is an important modification to do on the Sailfish 18 and it's important because of how the keel works. On the SF18 the keel is wound directky up and down with a worm screw. This screw can lose the bottom bearing whioch means you can effectively wind the keel right off.
