Two years ago, when we bought Vida she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings. We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all electric (motor, cooking etc). Now that the inside is dry (thanks to new windows, new hatches and leak chasing) we are fitting her out for live-aboard world cruising. Abbiamo poi preso uno scooter a noleggio e visitato altre due splendide località balneari. Cala del Moro, una vera piscina naturale e Ses Covetes, con la sua spiaggia contornata da roccia e un mare incantevole. Aprire il fiocco dopo aver issato randa, non è il massimo della leggerezza. Ma se lo fai almeno una volta ogni due giorni per almeno quattro mesi, diventa un allenamento davvero utile. Con il tempo maturi l’esperienza e con essa tanti modi diversi per diminuire, quando si può, ogni fatica. In questo caso le pause al winch (Antal) sono funzionali per permettere al vento di aprire il fiocco in autonomia 😅. Episode 040 The time has come again for us to leave the marina and spend a few weeks living on anchor. True New Zealand style though, there always seems to be another low pressure system coming. However, to be fair, it’s still spring. This time, it’s the remnants of Cyclone Lola mixed with a low pressure system and a high pressure system is sitting off the South Island. We’re in the squash zone. It’s been well forecasted so we had the opportunity and time to seek out a good secure anchorage and prepare us and Tāiko for what is to come. Having just installed an inner forestay, meant that the Sampson post that we once had was now being used for the inner forestay and Adam installed two new bow cleats. We’d also just invested in new anchor rode and a heavier Rocna anchor. A good opportunity for us to test our new systems and collect some water! We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore.
