His hard work paid off and he earned himself a spot on the sailing team, going on to win the 2013 America’s Cup and rejoining the team for the 2017 edition. Fowler’s racing resume is extensive, with success in the Laser class, match racing, the M32 circuit, and a podium finish in the Sydney Hobart. In this episode we continue with the "foundations" for our new Bow Roller, this is larger so that our 30kg SPADE anchor can be stored on it. Here we use some FR4 (high density, fireproof Epoxy and Fibreglass boards) scraps bedded on thickened epoxy to fill to deck level. We are refitting a 44 year old Rival 38 for a Sustainable Sailing retirement in a few years. Two years ago, when we bought Vida she was in a very tired and damp condition with all original equipment and fittings. We have removed all the gas, diesel and paraffin equipment, and are installing all electric (motor, cooking etc). Now that the inside is dry (thanks to new windows, new hatches and leak chasing) we are fitting her out for live-aboard world cruising.
